VIVA "SAN LAWRENZ" .....oops sorry 🙏 😅 * VIVA "SAN DUMINKU 😇 😂.. That's a lovely feast with an intimate atmosphere Steve. Very friendly crowd. You seem to love and enjoy those feasts. Wasn't fond of them because they used to ruin my rostered "Off Duty" Sundays 😡 😊. Again, another beautiful church - shame the historic old one was bomb to rubble during WW2. "War, what is it good for 🕊". THANKS Steve 🚶🎇 🎥 👏 Cheers 👍 🇲🇹 ♥ 🇪🇺 ™

What a jolly good show Steve....the statue does seem to lean forward and a somewhat unnerving angle at times....amazing how rarely the festi seem to be disrupted by rain...is something watching over them perhaps ?? Regards....Peter

One of these says I'm going to actually see a festa in person rather than on one of your videos Steve. I always seem to miss them when I'm over and it looks great, really liked the one of you and La and the hogs roast. Good video yet again👍👍

Hi Steve great video ! The church of The Annunciation of the Dominican monks was built in the 17th century and was richly decorated. However, the church was flattened in the Second World War and all the original paintings were lost so they’re all new paintings as well as the building. The statue however survived.

It must take ages to decorate the streets to that standard,and the beautiful church inside with the carved ceilings, we were told by our coach tour guide,when we visited Malta, that there is a church for every week of the year, Great video.

Yes They have heaps of volunteers to get the whole village ready,and many have there holidays in that time to celebrate, Yes there are many churches in Malta

Steve, wonderful video. You ask about the dog with the torch in its mouth: (this from Churchpop site) The Dominican dog goes back to a vision St. Dominic’s mother supposedly had before she had him. Struggling with infertility, she was making a pilgrimage to the Abbey of Santo Domingo de Silos in Spain when she dreamed that a dog jumped from her womb holding a torch and set everything around them on fire. Soon after, she conceived a son with her husband and named him after the 11th century St. Dominic of Silos, for whom the abbey she had visited had been named. The dream was prescient due to a play on words in Latin: although Dominic called his order the Order of Preachers, it would later come to be known as the Dominicans; in Latin, that’s Dominicanus, which is very similar to domini canis, or “dog/hound of the Lord.”

I am a bit late to this video but basically it is said that before St Dominic was born his mother had a dream where she saw a dog lighting up the world with a firetorch symbolising that St Dominic through his work and preaching will bring light to a world which back then was falling victim to heresies and where trust in the church was low

I am wondering what the significance of taking the statue out of the church and all around the village is? Thanks so much!
@EnglishmaninMalta Жыл бұрын
I dont really know the answer to that, every village does it , just to show off around the village to celebrate I guess
