Dear Eric, thank you for your product review of Larsen violin strings . I am having difficulty noticing any real difference between before and after as you have not done a side by side comparison here, of new to 4 months of wear. I am partial to anything made in Denmark because I am 1/8 Danish on my father's side. In real truth, I still love gut violin strings for their complex yodle. So I was skeptical in the beginning even with Eva Pirazzi green. 3/4 of a year has passed and.I love my Eva Pirazi violin strings. So I am now a synthetic violin string proponent. I also like the idea of Jargar violin strings also made in Denmark. I have never to my knowledge played on either Jargar or Larsen violin strings to date 7 13 24. My initial response to Larsen IL canone strings by another individual left me wanting. I thought them terribly expensive and untested. The best sounding strings I have ever heard have been gut with silver windings back in the day ergo 1970s.Getting back to your latest test 4 months later they sounded boom to me for some reason. It might be that you don't have parchment on your bridge or the leather pad under the e string. I could not tell as your vidiographer failed to zoom in and show detail. The Larsen were not the warmest strings I've ever heard I'm fairly sure of that. I would have liked to hear some baroque melody to determin the scope that these 429 dollar strings can handle. I appreciate your efforts to showcase these rather new violin strings however I am not convinced. I prefere Eva Pirazzi green for a variety of reasons and they are what I have now on my violin. At four months they have only a little unwinding on the A string and that is because I failed to every now and then use graphite in the nicks. I still prefer gut for their sonorous yodle and rich tonal color. Thank you for your test of the Larsen strings however I feel they need more development for the outlay of money involved. They sound terrific! (But I don't remember what your fiddle sounded like before.) Nonetheless they have a lovely attack and a really warm, resonant tone. I can hear the resonance even without headphones and listening on computer speakers. Four-hundred bucks better? Only you can tell that. I need an in-person hearing in a concert hall or auditorium to be that critical. Nice review and hats off to Larsen for letting you try them out!

Speaking voice is super clear. Captures the features of the strings. you can really tell how different these new strings really sounds from your dominant pro, subtle overtones present. The quiet parts are quiet, loud is loud, nothing distorted, no clipping. Insane.

Hello I am in search of a violin of my own I want to start doing violin of my own and those violin strings are absolutely gorgeous sounding it has the same sound as if you were way back in like the 1800s 1700s overall I think they are absolutely beautiful but they are a little bit pricey for me if I ever get my hands on a pair I'll be using them until they break so you did very good on the tutorial of how they sound how they look how they overall just give the excitement that you would want I also think that they sound very luscious I'm very bright just like a gorgeous woman singin I think they're worth that much at least last but not least I wasn't sure on how they would sound at all with all gold strings so if you do get my comment please drop a comment towards mine and please I love to hear from you

Wow even without headphones I could hear a definite difference! I'm really curious to know just how much of a difference that feels when it is under your ear. Something a mic can't really show. Granted I shall never ever be able to get these strings but hey I like learning so I'll just enjoy what you share with us. The packaging has a Great Gatsby vibe for some reason, probably just because it's fancy haha.

Hi Eric! I'm going to pretend I have no idea of the price. They sound excellent, warm, bright powerful too. Now, there are so many factors here, and this is the first video of you I've seen. Perhaps it would be good if you could record your playing with other strings (perhaps you already have), and intercut the videos so that you play a short sample (10 secs), and repeat it with the other brands of strings. That way, it would easier to make an aural comparison. Just a thought! Thank you.

Eric Mrugala Violin Il Canone Gold Strings, those are interesting because the Bass Strings (the G & D Strings) are wound in Gold rather than Silver.

You mean that the "bass-side" of the violin strings are gold-wound, right? I can't imagine the cost of double bass strings (which is what I first thought you were talking about). Am I wrong?

8:20 "The problem with gold E strings though is that they kinda squeak". Yes, true, and I've tried basically all brands. Whether it's a Thomastik Red-Label Gold E, or Evah Pirazzi [Green] Gold E, or Dominant Pro Gold E .... they all squeak, or as I prefer to say: whistle. It doesn't matter much when it comes to bow weight, technique, or even rosin.. they all whistle more often than you'd think. Furthermore: any E string made with any platinum is a massive NO from me because it's much worse with the whistling. If someone at a music store said "sorry, we don't have any steel E strings left, we only have gold and platinum left" then I'd have to go for the gold. I'd still be disappointed though!

0:29 - $426. That's fine. Oh, plus tax. That's what I dislike about American pricing, but then again here in Australia, we buying something internationally (like these strings) and upon import we then have to pay some obscurely-numbered tax price (like a percentage of the item plus shipping, plus holding, plus import tax, plus factoring-in-our-current-conversion-rates-upon-arrival, and more). A pack of strings for $300 USD ($453.71 AUD as of this point in time) becomes something ridiculous like $705.90 AUD .... for .... four strings.

15:16 - leave a comment below- [note: sorry for commenting a billion times] but overall: firstly, I just wonder how long they'll last in terms of a bright and brilliant sound. I personally would want these strings to sound brilliant for at least 4 months but I seriously doubt that that's going to happen. Secondly, I don't think that I want a sound that is THIS brilliant on a couple of my best violins. Thirdly, yes, they may be very resistant to the sweaty-left-hands that many violinists have, but then again, other strings with silver or aluminium will be just as resistant to that (as in, Dominant Pro with their various options). Good job Larsen, but I know which strings I'll be using ;)

All very good points, I’ve been playing on these strings for the last 4 months. I did have to change the e string out, but I’m okay with that. To resonance was a little less than when they first came out of the box, but they are close. I cleaned them using 99.99% alcohol and they still sound pretty darn good.

They sound wonderful but we can say that for many others ( Dynamos, PIs, Rondos, Perpetuals). What do you think Eric? Do you feel a big difference? I remember your review of Dynamos (which a year ago were considered sooo expensive 😞); and it motivated me to take a risk and try them out ( having a very pleasing result)… But throwing $400 for a slightly different sound might be too much , do you think that’s the case? It’s only best experienced in person.

Right from the start, the overtones are more amplified than any other string I've tried yet. But $400 is, indeed, a lot to throw at for strings. They're not for everyone, but so far, they sound nice.

2:21 - "Older antique violins"...? I've played many many many antique violins and I've heard almost everything. A loud and metallic German-trade violin circa 1950 that would make you go deaf if you put steel strings on it, to a Parisian-trade violin that has almost no sound (comparable to a badly-made 1/4 size modern factory violin), to a poorly-projecting yet bonafide 1701 Stradivari which barely competes with almost any modern violin by a great maker living today. That's quite the bold statement for Larsen to make...

"Dedicated to the artists" is the dedication that Paganini made of his 24 Caprices for solo violin. It is an explicit reference to Paganini which makes pair with the "Cannone" name given to the strings, which is the name of Paganini's violin (a Guarnieri Del Gesù) left in donation from Paganini himself to the Municipality of Genova, his hometown. The winner of the "Paganini Competition" is able to play "il Cannone" violin for a concert or more...
