Having been to the top recently and learning from my guide Versuvious is not a creator but a Cone which emminated from the caldera of Mount Somma, it is debatable weather Versuvious could cause so much damage in 79AD, I believe the Mountain was 9k high as depicted in the Museum as one peak before exploding, Versuvious grew out from many eruptions since! Either way, the people of Naples should be worried, that thing wiped out many several towns not just Pompeii....
