On 10 June 1940, Italy declared war on France and the United Kingdom. By September 1940, the Italians had invaded France, British Somaliland and Egypt. This was followed by a hostile press campaign in Italy against Greece, accused of being a British ally. Italy's invasion of Greece, launched from Italian-controlled Albania, was a fiasco: six divisions of the Italian Army, badly organized and insufficient to manage a full-scale invasion, encountered unexpectedly tenacious resistance by the Hellenic Army and had to contend with the mountainous and muddy terrain on the Albanian-Greek border.

Well, to be fair, Italy was way further behind in technologies and development compared to Germany and the Allies. Italy did switch sides after the Allies invaded them, but so did almost all other Axis nations. Also northern Italy stayed fighting along the Nazis until the end. There's a lot more to cover but you can find many videos explaining better

As an American. This is my favorite Greek WWII song. “The heroic struggle of the Greek people to defend their liberties and their homes against the aggression of Germany after they had so signally defeated the Italian attempt at invasion has stirred the hearts and aroused the sympathy of the whole American people.” - Franklin D. Roosevelt … With that being said. Here’s a WWII song called “You Fascists are Bound to Lose” by Woody Guthrie 🦅🇺🇸🤝🏛️🇬🇷 kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6fQe4Zthbqsac0si=4cju14hdXEP4chPT

@@Gustavogukpa I have no idea how my comment landed here, I was trying to ask what happened on a shirt that cut off midway through. I was listening to this earlier in the day though, but anyway now I’m here. I’ve always wondered about Greece during ww2; was there much resistance to the nazis before occupation and was their much resistance during. I think Greek history from antiquity gets heavily covered but not so much it’s recent history. Fascinating country.

@@Belisarius536Its dissapointing really, after 1944 when we got liberated , Greece went on a civil war between Communists and Monarchists ... liberal Republicans mostly supported the Monarchists as did the Brittish and the Americans so they won ... a civil war right after the destruction caused by the axis occupation was devastating for Greece ... and it left the country deeply divided for generations ...

@@mariolis I’ve actually been reading up on Greek modern history especially from WW2 to the 80s. Yes there where very turbulent times. The campaign against Mussolini’s troops was amazing to read and shows the mettle of the Greek spirit. I also learned how much the outside powers meddled in Greek affairs in the periods just after the wars. Is there still a rift between your people that can be felt to this today from what happened during these times and do some people still bear a grudge and harbour resentment from what happened back then? Greece is a Fascinating country with a fascinating history. Also through my research and reading a few books on the era I came across your ‘Βάζει ο Ντούτσε τη στολή του’ song. Great song.

@@nicholasthebloody163 Because Germany would have actually worked with Turkey to subdue the balkans and solidify the axis' position in the middle east, where the brits were. Turkey is the traditional ally of Germany since the fall of Constantinople. And let's not forget that Turkey and Germany were allies in WWI. So it would be out of character for germans to wage war on their ally, or vice versa given Turkey's economy and military were not as advanced in that time period. They even signed a non-aggression pact, so a turkish intervention would have been HIGHLY unlikely. Don't listen to me. I'm just some guy on the internet. Let history speak for itself
