This is one of my favorite planes is IL2. It's very swift, and the four 20mm's are more than lethal.

Sound completely wrong. Raidens had a distinctive whining sound due to the fan behind the propeller. As the instructions to the Tamiya 1/72 kit say "...sound like KEEN."

It was built specifically to go after B 29s. It used the largest most powerful engine available to allow it to reach the altitude of the B 29 quickly. The engine was a bomber engine. That's the reason the fuselage has such a large barrel shape. There is a fan behind the propeller that forced air through the cowling for engine cooling.

One thing I find fascinating is how gamers think that climbing to your enemy above you is a good idea....this is because you know you ain't gonna die. In real combat you were trying to NOT get in situations where you are losing airspeed and hanging yourself up as a target like the laundry.
