The difference between the two points in the story are really intriguing right? Sanji is in metaphorical chains, getting carried away by his brothers in bms' territory , while Zoro is in the middle of no where free as a bird in kaido's territory. The firstmate feeds the captain his favourite food while the cook kicks his ass to make a point. After seeing each other luffy is beaten, imprisoned, beaten again, barely awake, and starving until Sanji shows up with spoiled food and asks for help. Zoro and luffy help tama and then take on a force of soldiers together and bring a feast to starving people.

The unfortunate thing is that Bege attacked him while he was separated from the other strong members of the crew and the weaker members were being held hostage. Man was faced with too much at once and had no options. He needed luffy to come save him.

Nah Man. Zoro would never hit his captain. The only time he fought Luffy was when they both lost their memory. God damm he took a beating because Luffy said don't fight back. But that is the beauty of the anime, everyone is different and reacts in a different way. Sanji is the rebellious family member, while Zoro is the family guard dog who gets lost sometimes but is the most loyal.
