One thing they left out in the video. She got alzheimers when she grew old and completely forgot she voiced Cinderella. Yet she still loved a Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes so much despite not recognizing that it was her voice, so her nurses played it for her as often as possible until she passed away.

The Blue Network, which aired Ilene's radio show, eventually became ABC.

She seemed to have recognized the song. It was familiar. It’s so nice that the nurse looked after her like that. That’s going above and beyond her job and I’m sure it made Ilene very happy.

She had such a beautiful voice. I don't think anyone can play Cinderella like she did. She sounds lovely and romantic and very reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe.

She made Marylin Monroe look like a shallow bimbo who gets Presidents to commit adultery against their wives. Ilene Woods was a beautiful person with beautiful intentions and spirit. Marylin was NONE of these.

Fun Fact: Ilene Woods actually gets to lay claim to voicing both of the original Disney Princesses, as she voiced Snow White in a 1949 audio book version of the story. Also, in that same audio book The Evil Queen was voiced by Eleanor Audley, who also voiced Lady Tremaine, and Maleficent. Meaning she gets to lay claim to voicing all three of the original Disney Princess Villains.

I love that. She just wanted to go to the ball and have fun. The prince picking her to dance with was just an unexpected bonus. xD
@ellynmacgregor8210 Жыл бұрын
And on top of that, she didn't even realize he WAS the prince. Remember, she says to her handsome dancing partner, "The prince--I haven't met the prince!" And just as he's trying to tell her who he is, she flees, trying to get away before the clock finishes striking midnight.

@@ellynmacgregor8210 Ohhhh, good call! I forgot that. I just used to think she was lying to get away. Now it makes much more sense if she wasn't lying and was just there to party with a guy. She doesn't figure the truth out until much later and that's when she finally swoons.

I believe Ms.Woods also had a daughter. She mentions this in the "Rags To Riches" The Making of Cinderella, stating that at a showing of the film, her daughter jumped up and said, "That's My Mommy!!" and two women in the audience said, "Isn't that sweet? She thinks her mother is Cinderella"....

Out of all of the Disney Princesses that were around during Walt’s time, I think Ilene’s vocal performance was the best because it’s actually surprisingly layered and nuanced when you really listen to it. She gave the character a sense of humor too which was very refreshing but was also capable of heavy, dramatic moments as well, I mean that scene where she is crying in the garden still tugs at my heartstrings and I’ve watched this movie countless times! Truly one of the best vocal performances that’s ever been given, in my book at least and all from a woman who claims she didn’t want to be an actress in the first place!
@ellynmacgregor8210 Жыл бұрын
I know that the scriptwriters were the ones originally responsible for Cinderella's lines--but Ilene did such a fantastic job with them. One of my favorite moments is when the step-relatives are playing (?) and singing (?) their (per)version of "Sing Sweet Nightingale" and the royal messenger arrives. Cinerella ponders whether to knock on the door, when she knows Lady Tremaine has forbidden it. She says, "He [the messenger] said it was important. Maybe I *should* interupt the [scoffing] music lesson?" It's that little bit of scoffing (a ladylike version of a snort) that simply makes that scene.
