It was the judge from Belgium. Just crazy. Like Nathan Chen, there are judges that will be biased against him his entire career just because they don't like his style. Ilia will have to take a page out of Nathan's playbook and pile on the technical content to overcome the GOE and PCS he deserves that they're not giving him. I'm so glad he did the 4A in the SP and made history. Now, I really hope he adds a fifth quad in his LP at the GPF. He'll need every one of them to win, and he can do it.

Arenas are usually only filled when either Yuzuru is competing or for women’s events. Shoma is pretty popular though so I’m a bit surprised too. Guess not in China…

Its a Thursday. Most people are at work. Usually arenas are filled up during the long program which happens on weekends. Not so much during the SP.

Dafuq are you talking about? This has been one of the, if not the best mens short programs in the gp final with only 1 big mistake in the enire group. And even in the womens field there are no significantly more competitive skaters in russia. Rion Sumyoshis quad has been more consistent than valievas, and the new russian girls would still be in juniors, and would still struggle against the likes of Mao Shimada. Heck the only discipline russian skaters would change the outcome in is pairs, or Liza tuktamysheva if she competet in womens. Russian senior skaters are not competitive, only their doped and overscored teenage girls who wouldnt even be allowed. @@svetlanavg5501

Can we talk about the Belgian judge giving his 4A a "-5" GOE? The incompetence of the ISU is so complete, this wasn't even deemed worthy of getting fixed. Clearly, nobody told that judge that you're allowed to do a quad Axel in the Short. Mind you, nobody told the TECH SCORE BOX either. The tech score box showed his quad Axel as an "invalid element", worth 0 points, which is probably why the Belgian judge just followed suit by saying his grade of execution was "the worst possible", just like a fall. smh.

生きている間に4回転アクセルの成功を見届けることになるとは夢にも思っていませんでした。今もなんだか実感がわきません。 信じられない思いです。しかも4回転ルッツからのコンビネーションジャンプも入れて２クアドにしているし。テクニカルが 62点でしたか。ネットで点数だけ見て（テレビがないので）成功したんだなあと。男子フィギュアスケートはショートから ２クアド飛ばないと勝てない争いになりましたね。選手間の得点差があまりないのでフリーは相当激戦になりますね（胸熱）

4A跳んだ後、ジャッジも混乱してたのか演技中はずっと無効マーク出てた！ 4A跳んだあとは3A跳ばなくてもいいのかと思ってたけど単独アクセルジャンプは3Aまで、4Aは単独ジャンプの一つになるんですね

From what i have heard it was probably an error that somehow made it to the score sheet. The element was originaly marked at invalid which made one of the judges (as is common) give it a -5. Yes it is an error that shouldnt happen, but as the highest and lowest goe are ignored in the final goe it didnt make that big of a difference.

Wonderful. Amazing. It is such a shame that though history some judges have found ways to be viciously biased against interpretation they don't understand. Now some are using the component score to try to affect the outcome. Even on the technical side the Belgium judge awarded a -5 for this quad axel. Why is she still a judge if she's unable to recognise a clear axel? I reckon it will have to change quickly as it's becoming so obvious now - kinda embarrassing for the sport. As Ilia is showing - the highest level of interpretation should not have to be a rather embarrassing overly expressive feminine style.
