How often, in the history of sports, do we see something never done before? Very... very rarely. A quadruple axle is scientifically proven to be the most difficult feat in sports. Many experts thought that the quadruple axel was impossible. Illia Malinin made the impossible, possible. What Ilia did was on the level of Alex Honnold free soloing El Capitan. Illia Malinin earned himself top honors at the ESPY awards... but this is figure skating. The heteronormative political machine will not celebrate nor reward one of the most brilliant accomplishments in sports history. It's a great day for figure skating. It's a sad day for sports history. I hope I'm proven wrong.

His speed is decent, respectable. He does not slow down go into the jump. He has constant speed going into and out of the jump. And he jumps up into the jump to achieve height, which is the proper way of doing the axel, instead of rotating off the ice like you see from the tiny 3Axels being done by many of the female skaters. BTW, of course Ilia needs fast rotations. IT'S 4.5 revolutions that he must complete in the air! And it’s right, Sasha could work on this aspect. But instead of supporting her and at least in a first time applause her risk taking, people bash her. And when I say the same thing about Ilia, who is her age, a MAN ? People are all compassionate and encouraging, excusing his lack of artistry because of his age and still congratulating him for his exploits. Why can’t Sasha have the same treatment ? Why doesn’t she, as an athlete, can’t be supported like any other man ? See. And you just helped me to prove it.

@@Nunelii Maybe you"ll be surprised, but you bark on the wrong tree with me....I fully understand that the young skaters need to start somewhere, and not only men, of course, but I thought its understandable, I don't have any bias when it comes to sex, and I don't know why are you talking about this so harshly towards me....I think that new score system is done a little better because judges can differ well between technic and artistry, and it's right that figure skating is still about both....I also hope that we will be able to support not only young skaters to start, but also the older ones to stay, both men and women, I'm watching figure skating for aprox. 20 years now and I'm sad that skaters are ending too young, and especially women, maybe women figure skating has also problem with ageism? I don't know, but it seems like that....but you have a point that sport is sexist, some more, some lesser, but it derives from the whole sexist society.... ☹️☹️
@Nunelii2 жыл бұрын
@@Parmen128 it was not directed to you specifically. But people who actually do the bias will see themselves if they read this comment. Because it’s the reality. Maybe not you, but sadly a lot of people think like this. They see worthiness in a female athlete only if she keeps her femininity aside for her athletic skills. Not all women quit the sport early, but keep in mind that as athletes do in a lot of other sports, skaters quit after they win big titles. Russian generally won every title there is possible to win before 18, including Olympics, so it’s not uncommon seeing them retire when they’re content with themselves. Keep also in mind that yes, figure skating is a sport that favors young women rather than 22-28yo women (that’s not old but you see what I mean). It’s physiological. Russian have understood that, that’s why they put so much efforts and money into forming young girls early. In the end they don’t have a shorter career, their career just started earlier (you can see 10-11yo Russians already wining competitions with ultra-Cs.). It may be sad for older woman but it’s becoming a reality (it always has been like that actually). Juniors are better than seniors.

I mean... even with a fall at the end of his 4LzEu3S combo, he scored 194+ in his free skate, and it's the fall of his first full year competing at the senior level. The only skaters to post a higher free skate in the +5 GOE era are Nathan, Yuzuru, Yuma, Shoma, and Vincent. Ilia is absolutely an incredible talent. And yes, he has lots to work on, sure, but he's got time. If he was perfect now, I'd be worried. The fact that he's not is a good thing, because it means that his peak is in the future.

wow ! As for me, this was the best figure skating performance. The judges are "racist", russophobic and byos because he is russian - last year didnt let him compete on the olimpics even though he was second after Nathan on the USA competition. Instead of sending 1,2,3 places winners to the Olympics they send 1,3,4 which is just outrageous. So they cut him off even though he was so supposed to go to the olimpics.

That would be xenophobic.

Russians aren't a race. Plus, he's American because he was born here. And the decision not to send him to the Olympics was made before Russia invaded Ukraine, so your claims of Russophobia don't add up. Try again

Lol racist against Russians 😂 that is rich. US figure skating chose to send Jason instead of Ilia, they didn’t decide to ban Ilia from the games. It was a fair decision in my opinion, jason had more experience and had a lot of fans in the sport who wanted him to compete.

Rebecca, congratulations! You wrote the dumbest comment of the day.

He was born in the USA...he has Russian heritage but that has nothing to do with it. He wasn't picked for Olympics because he was inexperienced as a senior. Jason had the body of work and the experience to be a safer choice. Also are you forgetting Russians did compete at the Olympics?

Sad, indeed. Like practicing from jump to jump to meaningless music.

High performance but where are the choreography the interpretation the transitions? I am very impressed by the sporting expoit without really appreciating the very poor program on the artistic level... I hope that this skater will soon bring together all these elements because he is very promising good luck for the next

An arena that sits 2500 and there were hundreds of seats empty - USA Figure Skating going up like smoke just like their country. What a joke.
