My, oh, my. I had a time putting this together - but gave it three tries over three days. While light, sound and weather were issues, each day I came to the same conclusions about this foundation. 1) It's not a serum. 2) Despite it's oily consistency, It might work very well for oily skin - more revelations in the video!
Skin type: Mature - normal to dry
I'm the Hooded Lid and am here to discover and share new applications and techniques as my face is changing with age. I also review products with a focus on eye shadows that are crepey lid friendly!
I also adore perfume and do reviews of new releases that are interesting to me, as well as videos grouping together genre and seasonal favorites.

Hi, all. I am a dermatologist and can definitively say that, for most, this product is actually quite hydrating (possibly not for super dry skin), as it does include both a humectant and an occlusive. It IS meant to be a stand alone product, but does seem to play well with other serums that are NOT silicone based. It is also meant to transition shades due to the zinc. The zinc does show up as very pale for about the first minute or so. Also, due to formulation, this product does NOT need a full teaspoon's worth of product to achieve the SPF of 40. Half a pipette is fine. Reapply, though. Most powder SPFs work well for reapplication, but do NOT attempt to set this with powder SPF. Use a very finely milled powder. I have this product and have found it to be a wonderful all in one product (over my C E Ferulic serum).

I understand it is meant to be a stand alone product, but for me, it doesn't check the boxes. I prefer HA on it's own and here it's below the half-way point on the deck list. I also prefer not to wear C and Niacinamide at the same time (I know there are different points of view on this, but better safe than sorry), and a C is a must for me. I did try this over three days, and the review reflects my personal experience. I found that I became sensitized to the zinc and it felt drying on my skin. There are lovely qualities to this foundation, but I live in a dry climate and it just didn't work for me.

Gilly Franklin it doesn’t set well with a powder SPF. It’s not finely milled enough and looks caked. However, I HAVE set it with the new Suntegrity pressed spf 50 translucent powder and that went on like a dream.

You do NOT need 1 full teasponn of SPF on your face for ANY sunscreen. SPF is tested at 2mg/cmsq which translates to 1/4 teasoon for the face and another 1/4 teaspoon on the neck. But even 1/4 teaspoon of foundation is not going to be acceptable for the majority of people which is why you should never count on a foundation for SPF protection. Plus this has zinc oxide which is not an adequate filter regardless of sunscreen myths.

Hi - my comment on the Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint is that I'll be buying my second bottle soon. I'm almost 70 and live in a dry climate and my skin is dry. My skin tone is slightly warm/yellow. I was color matched by a makeup artist so I'm using Tulum ST2. I will say that how you apply is different than what the makeup artist told me (and I've also seen other videos say the same..) she said apply it with your fingers by rolling and pressing it into your skin with the balls of your fingers. Not a slather/smearing it situation. Mine is shiny but I let it sit for awhile and then use Elf or Boscia blotting sheets. I then put on Merit cream blush and then very lightly apply Laura Mercier powder. Sometimes the blotting sheets/paper is all I need. Ilia is like skin, it does not feel like a foundation at all - well because it's a skin tint and the color is gorgeous. The 40 spf makes it a great addition over your sunblock. The sunblock I use is the Korean line (Dr. Sam Ellis video-Dermatologist's Favorite K-Beauty Sunscreens & Moisturizers (Korean Skincare Picks!). These marry well with Illia Super Serum Skin Tint.

I absolutely love this product! I actually didn’t find it oily at all, I have oily skin. I felt like it dries well with good glow without feeling oily. So I really like that it’s oil free but still had a nice glow. But I can tell how it looks oily when you apply it.... which is odd bc I don’t experience that at all and I actually find that it blends really fast. J in was using the Kosas prior to this product and that was my favorite everyday complexion product but I have completely changed to this one now! Such a wonderful product!

I’m really glad I found this. I am pretty sure I have sensitivities to mineral sunscreens. The Elta MD made my skin extremely sensitive within a few days of use. I really wanted to try this tint cause the coverage type is what I am after. But for $46 I don’t want to risk the sensitivities.

Squalene and squalane are just called oils because they're similar to other stuff we call oils. Like how jojoba oil is technically a wax ester, not an oil. Or how we call almonds "nuts" even though they technically aren't.
@rcherry762
@rcherry762 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly right. Squalane is derived from squalene and is a substance our bodies naturally produce. The production goes down dramatically after 30, though. Squalane is not an oil, therefore the Ilia Serum Skin Tint is oil free.

Because you find mineral sunscreens drying, do you prefer and use chemical sunscreens? You say you have sensitive skin (I do) so don’t you have sensitivity to the chemical sunscreens? Finding sunscreens which “work” ... especially with foundations... has been such a frustration for me. But all winter I’ve been feeling so dehydrated after 2-3 hours of applying skincare, spf and makeup. It’s so frustrating. I’m hoping the warmer months will change that (though that time is too short in Michigan). Side note - I think it would be helpful to include links to the products you are using! I am wondering about both of the blushes you applied as well as the By Terry (sp?) powder. I have heard of it and can search that on my own. Great review!

Spring is on the way Marianne! I prefer chemical sunscreens - but I'm fussy about them. I find sunscreen with dimethicone can be tricky with foundations. My favorite sunscreens are Korean - I did a sunscreen video a few months ago you might want to check out. I get them from Yesstyle online and while they take a while to get here, the prices are very nice with most between 10 -20 bucks!

I do need foundation, I am 42, and it is the most amazing thing I have ever tried. My real concealer is Nars but most days now it is that Ilia skin tint that I use. I look natural like I am wearing nothing. I put it over my routine (ole henriksen banana serum + vit c moisturizer then primer (all same brand) and ilia concealer. I use Ilia blush (cream in tube one) on top of skin tint. I finish with ilia powder where it shines too much. I personally think that you put a bit too much on your face. Just my opinion. It works better by fine coats with rests in between for me. Also that spf is not a chemical one so very healthy unlike the others giving cancer (ewg reference) and other problems. Also I would not say it is the most moisturizing thing, but with a fine coat of moisturizer under, it works well for me and I am in Quebec so very dry winters with -20 celsius^^.

I love the primer but I don't think I would enjoy this one even though I am fine with mineral sunscreen. It looks too oily for me - and i fear it would settle into my enlarged pores. Plus, I wear glasses and i don't enjoy any oil on my nose. I like the Dr. Jart+ beauty balm in the gold pump.

Niacinamide and zinc oxide are the superstar ingredients here which can be found on Cerave tint spf 30 at just $15.99 recommended by You Tuber Dr Dray a dermatologist. The only downside is there is only one universal tint which is good for light medium skin (like me)

I don't think so. I swatched several colors on my hand in store. If that was true, they'd all turn into the same color. I think it has something to do with the zinc because once it dries for a few minutes, if you rub it out again, the whiteness comes back. Ilia makes no claims this is a self-adjusting foundation.
