Thank you so much for discussing the bowing of the plywood at 5:40. It is easy to watch build videos and think that the materials are all in perfect condition all the time. It is these unexpected oddities in my own builds that I find trouble coming up with the best solution for so it is great to see you acknowledge the bowing and explain how you are going to handle it. It better equips me to deal with things like that in my own builds. Fantastic video as always! Thank you for making this incredible content for us.

Ideally the bow would have gone inwards and not outwards, would have solved the issue and meant no need for screws

A small change I would make to the desk for my own needs would be some holes drilled on top for cable management or maybe a hinged top section in the back 1/4 of the desktop to hide a power strip. Loved this project Bob! Keep it up!

So much you can do to customize this desk which is awesome. Edge painting for an accent, decals or painted logos on the top would be cool. I actually liked the random look of the cutout of the drawer before the drawer face went on. Great build!

Hey Bob, how’s it going Man? First, awesome project. I absolutely love that it was for the kids. Second, it’s amazing what one piece of hardwood, in this case cherry, does to really dress up plywood furniture. Thanks for showing everyone that! I like all your videos but I really liked this one!! Cool project & video! I have had success using masking tape to create a "hinge" when gluing up mitered corners. It holds the corner perfectly aligned and keeps the glue from squeezing out. Sometimes a shallow dado, a quarter of the depth of the thickness of the plywood will lock the divider in place and give you more glue surface area. You can also brad nail diagonally into the corner to hold it together until the glue dries if the nail gun fits inside the desk. A solid wood face frame is also an option. You can also round over the outside edges of the leg assemblies with a router prior to glue-up to make the corners more kid-friendly. Keep up the great work Bob & Josh!

I've been looking for "how to make a desk"-type videos to give me some ideas/inspiration for updating my own office desk. Your video has given me some more inspiration. I'm thinking about creating a big, long box for the desk top, with four narrow drawers contained within the box. I also want to make drawer units beneath for more storage and to serve as the "legs."

As an aspiring maker myself, something that stumps me is the intricacies of drawers. I think a good idea for a bits video might be the construction of a drawer or different methods of simple box building and the joinery that goes with it. I’m trying to design a storage solution/bookshelf for my girlfriend and am having a lot of trouble with the drawers. Really, anything would be helpful, if you don’t think that’s a good fit for a video then I understand completely. Thank you for the great content that you put out, it really is entertaining and informational for someone like me who aspires to someday become a craftsman.

I had been planning on making something like this for my mom for a while now. A few differences I had planned is she is using a set of filing cabinets for the base and I wanted to make a sliding keyboard tray for the middle to use a laptop. I had planned on using solid wood but if she keeps asking I may have to try a plywood one.

Keep up with your videos you got me back into woodworking and got me into CAD designing

This gives me some ideas for a problem I've dealt with for years. Because of my disability, I need a desk I can stand at. I'd extend the legs, and probably give myself more surface area for my laptop. My balance is garbage, so I'd also need a desk I can lean my hips against. I might put some kind of cushion material (like a wrist support for keyboards) on that edge to make it more comfortable. Since my knees won't go under the desk, I don't really need the open space below the top surface, so I could fill that space with drawers for the paperwork that comes with adulting (oy, the paperwork).

Mate for the mitre joints, flip upside down, line it all up flat and masking tape up along the joint on both sides. Flip back over, glue in the joints and simply fold up and tape to make square. Or staple on the edge. When dry simply remove tape and minimal amount of sanding. Perfect edge every time

Gotta say, I am surprised you didn't put LEDs in the desk some how. Could be a cool back light on the wall as well as lighting up the inside of the drawer and/or cubby. Maybe a switch to turn just the cubby on/off? A secret button under the veneer?

To make the alignment of the miter-glueups easier lay both pieces flat with the outside up, align the outside edge and then put painterstape over the edges so they stay connected. Then turn the whole thing around and apply the glue. Then just fold the miter and place the cornerclamps

To further hide the screw holes you filled, I have routed a channel the same depth as the thickness of the iron on edge banding, going with the grain direction and finding a piece of the edge banding that matches well. This is time consuming and works best when you have a variety of banding to choose from; however this was a manufacturing setting and in a woodshop may not be practical.

If you notched out the legs for the baseboard, they would sit tighter against the wall. Mathias W did that on his bed frame and it always seems like a good thought in a design.
