Switzerland being a horological superpower of course needs something special when it comes to railway clocks. Perhaps they need to improve a little on phone app programming! 😄 "SBB CFF FFS" by the way isn't the clock's model number, it's just the abbreviation of the Swiss railway company in German, French and Italian. There's also a quartz version of the wrist watch that does this trick.

Mondaine currently says the model is 'MSM.25S11' - and it retails for 365 USD. Gary appears to have an earlier model: 'MSM.25S10'. It's not clear what '202-SMF051' is for. Francis & Gaye is selling it for around 225 USD (without VAT).

this looks like a solution for a problem that doesn't exist. only the solution doesn't really seem to work either. argos do a wall clock for £6, and the aa battery probably lasts years. sorry but i have no romance in my dead heart.

You've put me out of my misery 😂. I couldn't figure out how it could keep good time while obviously pausing every minute. It is always disappointing when you edit just before the minute comes up, you might suspect I watch the clock rather than you, and you'd be right 😁

Recently, my wife purchased a washer and dryer that are WiFi enabled. I warned her to not turn on that feature. Did she listen? No, because I am a man and I don’t understand. On the weekend the ISP connection was lost for several hours and guess what? The washer didn’t start because it couldn’t find the network; “Error - Error!”

I have coveted one of these since I first saw them, a desire amplified when I saw that you have one, Gary. But when I checked the Mondaine website and saw the shockingly high prices for the various versions they offer, I knew I would never have one. The sync feature revealed in this video at least means that it's more than a generic quartz clock enhanced by a famous design and brand name. But in my opinion, that's still not enough to justify a retail price of $325 to $545 US. For comparison, my Amazon Echo 10” (25.4 cm) Mickey Mouse Edition wall clock with similar WiFi/Bluetooth connectivity and an additional countdown feature using LEDs at the minute marks cost only $35 US. I'm also puzzled by the “Stop to Go” feature. The clocks in New York's Grand Central Terminal were for years electrically synchronized (I don't know if they still are) and didn’t require a visible pause to do it.

This reminds me of the super complicated time and date settings on my Casio Edifice analog quartz watch. I have to open the PDF manual twice a year when the DST changes. It even has a standard and daylight mode, but good luck figuring that out w/o the manual. (maybe it should have an app, lol)

Interesting concept, but make the clock only accurate at the minutes. Timing anything under a minute using it would have error due to the pause. For watch people that look for errors under 1 second a day, introducing a 2 second error every minute seems wrong. Sure it gets rid of cumulative error over days, but sacrifices precision between minutes. Watches that adjust for the atomic clock out of Boulder CO don’t sync every minute. I think the quartz movements are assumed to be accurate enough to keep time for an hour without going out of sync. Well assuming no issues with the battery. I used to have a vcr that would get a signal from certain tv stations to reset the time correctly. It was great if there was a power outage. Once the hourly signal got sent, no more flashing 12:00. If you were watching the channel, you could hear the signal when it happened. It was a little beep tone that would happen between the program and any channel announcements.

Interesting that, as big as it is, it needs an external bit of software on a celphone. Seiko, Citizen, Casio and others make wristwatches that access GPS or radio time all by themselves.
