I love that you're honest,unlike many other avian youtubers that act like they don't make these mistakes and they are superior to you as a bird keeper. I raised 4 baby birds when I was 13 and I gotta tell you,it was a crazy process. I made a bunch of mistakes,but I've learned from them. Now this November,my birdies are gonna be 2 years old. All 4 of them are healthy birds with ALOT of personality. They're so mean sometimes, but when they aren't grumpy,they are very funny,cute,and loving. Thankyou for not being condescending like other pet youtubers are. Loved this video and your bird. By the way, Dewey (one of my birds) loved this video too. She just got done taking a bath and she was sitting on my shoulder watching this with me. She likes your bird.

A better thing to do to your lovebird if he bites you really hard is to apply a little bit of pressure on his beak but not hurting him. This will give him a negative reaction to biting. Also I respect you for recognizing a mistake of hitting your bird. Your a good man sir
@akbomorazvi34224 жыл бұрын
I think the best thing to do if any type of bird bites you, set it down on the floor and leave the room. This shows the bird that if it bites you, it will understand that it won’t get any attention if it bites you. So the conclusion is your bird will stop biting you.

@@YourFriendlyShapeShifterFriend Tbh my bird don't bite me, I just got them on Wednesday. They open their cage and fly around but they don't particularly like me being to close. I've gotten bitten, maybe once or twice but it was when I was feeding them sunflower seeds. They didn't even bite to hard, just a little nibble like they mistook my finger for a seed and they stopped almost immediately. Most of the time they open their mouths as warnings to me but I always just make it aware I know they're upset and provide them with more treats and they calm down. It could be an issue with how they where raised with their previous owner/shop.

Screaming when the bird bites you is also a mistake. It will keep biting just to get that sound out of you like out of a squeaky toy. It’s better to leave it a bit so that it understands by biting it’s gonna lose your attention.

I know I’m late but that’s actually not true. Lovebirds in flocks when one bites the other screams and flys away, they understand then that they hurt the other bird and shouldn’t do it again. Which is what I ended up doing. So whenever my lovebird bites me I Yelp and walk away. He understands that he hurt me and no longer bites. It’s not gonna work right away but with time he’ll no longer bite you

Thank you so much for you honesty. I too have made several mistakes with my birds, once my bird flew away and I chased her around the neighborhood for 4 hours until she got tired and let me catch her. Then a few months later I was cleaning her cage and assumed she would stay at the top when I took the bottom part to dump out but when I came back from throwing it away, my dogs had gotten to her ): it was the worst thing to ever happen. Then a few months later with my new bird, I was playing with her all morning and we were still working on bonding bc she was wild and I left some millet in her cage so she would go back in since I couldn’t catch her and I walked away and fell asleep for 30 min and when I came back she too was gone. It turns out my dogs had kicked open the back door. It’s crazy to me they could even catch her considering it would take me 20 minutes to capture her. It was all terrible but this kind of thing won’t happen 3 times, I have learned to be vigilant about ensuring that my dogs are locked away any time I have my future birds out.

I just got my first lovebird today. He is a Fischers Lovebird and actually looks just like yours. Thank you for the videos. I have alot to learn. I want my lovebird to be sociable with me. The breeder did clip his wings for me, so that I can train him better. Right now he is in his cage - I got him 2 hours ago and he is sleeping alot.... when should I start trying to get him to go on my finger?
@patticakie58614 жыл бұрын
I would wait until the bird comes out on his own. Leave the cage door open, offer him treats (like millet) and just spend time going about your normal routine. He'll come out eventually once he learns where the treats are! Also, consider clicker and target training to start. This will build trust and positive experiences, while also protecting your fingers form getting bit ;). Once the target training is going well, start step up training. This is a slow process, have him eat from your hand (without annnnyyyy force) and then move toward stepping up. This is just a suggestion since every bird is different.
@fuchsbrudi31074 жыл бұрын
All you need is patience. If you hold your finger long enough in front of his knees, he will eventually step up and realize its not bad. After he starts to get on your shoulder, don't stop walking. Walking while he is on your shoulder will teach him that you are a nice place to sit on since our bodies have natural balancing so he doesn't have to work to balance himself. Also keep him in 2 hands and gently glide over his feathers like you would pet a dog but a lot more gentle. Eventually he will fall asleep on your hand. At that point you got his heart

I read on some sub reddit about parrot training to tap the beak, and then later I read to NEVER tap the beak or physically strike the bird because they learn to fear you, and also they say not to yell because it reinforces bad behavior. The board certified avian vets I've read the literature of say that ignoring them after they do something naughty, gently removing them and putting them in the cage, is best.
