I believe the reason there are so few Pokemon Amiibo is simply the Pokemon company has to approve everything done with the IP. Nintendo can't just decide let's make figures of the gen 1 starters. That's also why in Yoshi's wooley world when you scanned Smash bros pokemon you didn't get skins based on characters. It was just Yoshi with the stylized A.

The reason is also probably because they never encouraged Amiibo in the main games so they probably want less expectations to live up to. As in a kids getting Pokémon Amiibo and they do nothing in the Pokémon games would leave the kid disappointed. Pokémon doesn’t support gimmicks much in their main games. Pokémon games rarely use motion controls (it took them over 10 years to use standardized motion controls), never used 3D mode, very little microphone use, didn’t use full 3D graphics until 2013, and doesn’t use Amiibo.

I like the amiibo functionality in Fire Emblem Fates. As you can unlock Marth, Ike, Lucina, and Robin. And they give you accessories that you can put on your favorite units in the game.

Also, if you get any of those four to appear in the armory as the shopkeeper, they have exclusive weapons that they sell. Ike's is a sword called "Ike's Backup" that's basically a stronger steel sword that gives +3 defense, as an example. Ike and Robin are the only Fe Amiibo I have but I got Robin well after I stopped playing fates. Not to mention that all four of those Fe amiibo also unlock playable characters in Codename Steam which is too bad because almost no one cares about that game. TBH, I think the Fire Emblem amiibo might have the best in game functionality of all the amiibo as they have a large influence in multiple games not even including Smash.

I’m not sure if you know a game for 3DS that’s called Animal Crossing New Leaf, Welcome Amiibo. There’s a lot of functionalities and uses for your amiibos. You can scan any Zelda Amiibo and a special character will appear in a camper, like Wolf Link with a Animal Crossing style. You can talk to him and buy special Zelda’s theme items or if you want, ask him to move in to your own town. You can use the amiibo for play mini games with a 3DS and WIIU furniture, and in game camera you can take pictures of the real world with those animals posing too. I think ACNL shows one of the best uses for amiibo.

completely agree. The ammount of content you get with every amiibo is crazy! you can get furniture, exclusive clothes and accesories, wall and floor designs and much more, and on top of that you get to ask those amiibos to move in to your town, which means that I get to see Epona, Wolf Link, Inkling and such every day!

7:56 It's Robobot, not robot. And the Meta Knight, Dedede, and Waddle Dee amiibo don't change your moveset, just your appearance. In my opinion, the healing items received from amiibo in Star Allies is far more useful than the Robobot functionality, since they can be used in The Ultimate Choice. Also, you act like hiding levels/modes behind amiibo is a good thing. I'm fine with cosmetic bonuses, but the Wolf Link amiibo is essentially a massive paywall, something that you got mad at the Metroid amiibo for. Right before praising it with Shovel Knight.

Hey... I enjoyed the video but can't really agree on your opinions on the shulk amiibo. You said you put lots of research into this video but for anyone who has played xenoblade 3D (and used the amiibo) you would know that 1 token costs 5 play coins (500 steps) which equates to 2 tokens a day ( they cannot be earned in game fyi except 100 tokens for beating the final boss the first time and 99 tokens for reaching level 99. Btw reaching level 99 is no simple feat )so the added 3 a day you get from shulk boosts that to 5 tokens... And you did not research the use of tokens, they are not used for "the item menu"( so no your "100% truth" isn't accurate) but are used to unlock character models and music tracks "yay big whoop" i know that the function isn't much exactly but the character models are awesome and xenoblade has some amazing music tracks, being able to put my 3Ds on sleep mode and just listen to some of these tracks (I think) is great use of the amiibo. Also it works gacha gacha style where 1 token = 1 music track/model (with the chance of duplicates) whereas 3 tokens gets you 1 guaranteed new model or music track. I'm not saying your opinion on the shulk amiibo use in xenoblade 3D ( being potential for more ) Is wrong, I'm just saying for your number 1 pick for worst function in a game you should at least properly research what the use of it is in the game, I personally think that the shulk amiibo function in xenoblade is actually amazing TL;DR. Shulk amiibo is the big epic

Believe it or not, I did as much research on this pick as I could. I asked personal friends, (who know a lot about the series, more than I do) did investigation on various reddit pages, watched videos on Xenoblade gameplay myself, and for the life of me I couldn't find an easy way to explain how the tokens worked. (Also I didn't want to overextend the video, so I simplified everything. And yes, I DID mention everything the tokens can do for you in-game) I put it at number 1, simply because compared to every other amiibo function out there, this one feels the most underwhelming. (Even to many Xenoblade fans) Again, it should of been much bigger, especially since its inexcusable to acknowledge how Shulk is the only compatible amiibo to that game. Three tokens is basically an entire days worth of walking, but aside from the sole purpose of promoting laziness by scanning the amiibo once a day instead of walking around, maybe something more lasting, cool and rewarding would of been nice instead of just 3 coins. And if you really adore that amiibo and it's functions, thats solely your own opinion, and I am certainly not trying to clash against your own bias' (I try to make my informational videos be unbiased as possible, so it'll be easier to explain to both casual and experienced viewers alike) Hope this cleared things up.

Not only that, also on Code Name S.T.E.A.M! Another game that has a pretty good amiibo functionality is Hey! Pikmin in my humble opinion. The game has 40+ amiibo treasures to collect from the Pikmin, Mario and Splatoon series. And in case you're not a rich kid, you can just buy the Pikmin amiibo and unlock everything (though slowly, as you can only use it for treasures once per day). Not to mention that 16 of these amiibo can unlock new puzzles for you to complete. Also, the Pikmin amiibo alows you to call Pikmin whenever you want and as many times as you want in a stage. The amount of Pikmin you can call is based on a level system that counts how many Pikmin you have returned to the Pikmin Park. I think it's pretty neat, even better with the fact that everything mentioned can be done with just one amiibo. And I know, Hey! Pikmin is not that great. But as a Pikmin fanboy, well, I honestly fairly enjoyed it.

Personally, I think Amiibo functionality in Mario Party 10 should not be overlooked. Having an extra eight or so character specific themed game boards is a really big deal and obviously boosts replay value. If you haven’t tried it, give it a shot! :) Thanks for the list!

I really feel that the number 1 spot should've been given to the Animal Crossing New Leaf amiibo functionality. I loved collecting those cards back when they first released, and then when they announced the Welcome amiibo update to NL and how every single amiibo card (except the special character cards) would unlock that specific character to live in your town. I was so happy to be able to get my best friend, Hamphrey, back in my town after he tragically moved away due to my absence from the town.

It’s probably my fav usage of amiibo to date because of how it’s used for unlocking a mini stage and when collected, presents a comedic description of the amiibo your pikmin collected. As of the release of multiplayer on other consoles, multiplayer was included to the base game on Wii U. To make up for the lost functionality we got things like the extra armor, fairies, and retains the custom Knight functionality

One of my favorites is the treasure goblin in Diablo 3. Normal amiibo’s will spawn a random gold enemy, which can be nice, whereas the goblin takes you right to the realm of greed. Combine that with the gem you get from there, and the bracers that give you 1:1 gold to exp, and you have a great powerleveling experience!

I think the best amiibo function is the Alm and Celica Fire Emblem Echoes amiibo. They unlock you an two exclusive dungeons filled with helpful early to midgame items, as well as two original music tracks and of course exploration and battles. Fire emblem echoes was a remake so these dungeons were not apart of the original game. Overall they could have easily sold these two dungeons as DLC but instead they used it for two great looking amiibos!

Now for Metroid Samus Returns the Metroid amiibo adds Fusion mode, a harder mode that gives you the fusion outfit, and you can only get this mode with the amiibo. So Metroid Samus Returns should be on the best list.

And honestly these game modes are more a hardcore-challenge for diehard-Metroidfans, who buy any Metroid amiibos anyway. The thing about these new game modes is that they just are incredibly difficult, not to mention if you want to actually see the ''ending-easteregg'', which should represent a gift for those fans. (watch The Completionist's episode about the game, if you want more prove for it)

Christian T. This video wasn’t specifically catering to die hard fans of any franchises on this list. It was an overview of how good amiibo functions can generally be, explained to the best of my ability for both casual and hardcore fans of amiibo and the games. So while the amiibo might be “worth it” to diehard Metroid fans, (though it’s arguable that even Metroid fans didn’t like these amiibo either) it doesn’t seem like it would bat an eye to anyone else.

I totally agree with the thumbnail tbh. Shovel Knight is amazing because it lets you do, well...co-op. While the Shulk Amiibo...just unlocks a bit of in-game currency in XC3D. That’s it. Which’s one of the *only* two functions it actually has for such a rare Amiibo. And great video all around!👍🏽Idk if you’ve heard this before, but it’s hilarious how your voice sounds like Peter Griffin lol. The only part I agree with is the Metrod amiibo. What you forgot to mention is that the Samus Amiibo unlocks Fusion mode, which’s basically a hard(er) mode where you both have the Fusion suit and take extra damage. And the Metroid Amiibo grants you a tracker to be able to find the Metroid easier. Sure, you can argue that the content should’ve been added in-game in the first place, but it still doesn’t change the fact that it has more to offer than any of the previous Amiibo you put on the “worst” list.

Unsurprisingly, Yacht Club kept the bar high with the Plague/Specter/King Knight 3 pack of amiibos. No multiplayer or massive armory at the inventory menu, but they give you 3 other fairy companions to choose from, sweet-looking alternate armor sets that change color with whatever set you wear in the game, and special challenges each. And now that Showdown is out, add an alternate costume for each of them (including Shovel Knight if you have his) in Showdown.

the worst part about shulk amiibo is that you can only buy like 9 songs and 9 character models. You would think that with such a massive game you'll have to farm a lot of coins to buy lots of character models, concept art, music etc but all you can access is that pitiful ammount of content that you would be able to buy anyways with streetpass coins.

A good video, and i gotta be honest , I was surprised that the Fire Emblem Amiibos didn't make the Top 5 Best and that you didn't even mentioned that Shovel Knight Amiibo unlocks a fight against Shovel Knight in Azure Striker Gunvolt, something that could be easily added in the Shovel Knight session, since you were already talking about his Amiibo anyway.

I personally feel like the Toad amiibo functionality in Captain Toad Treasure Tracker should’ve been on the Worst list, since all it does is unlock a mode where you wander around a level you’ve already completed to find a tiny pixel Toad and tap on it, and once you find it you get... uhh... nothing. You get nothing. There’s literally no point to it, and the worst part is the mode is unlocked by default in the Switch/3DS versions of the game, so what does the Toad amiibo do in them? It gives you invincibility. Because Captain Toad Treasure Tracker is the hardest game ever made. Yayyyyyyyy

The 2 player Shovel Knight issue was fixed in the Switch version of the game, where 2 player is included out of the box, but customs are included with the now $45 amiibo

The Zelda and Sheik amiibo can help immensely in those 50 floor dungeons, particularly the one that the Wolf Link amiibo unlocks.

Great video agree with almost everything except for twilight princess, refilling your hearts and items is really useful and has helped me a lot in the game. As for the Ganon amiibo, it's fun and challenging to do 4x damage, yes they could've put it on the game for free but it's Nintendo after all.

Here's my opinion of the two third-party amiibo like Solaire of Astora, and the Loot Goblin Amiibo. The Solaire amiibo i think is not much of a collectible amiibo (Unless if they make more amiibo for different characters) The only thing this amiibo do is let you unlock the "Praise the sun" gesture which isn't much interesting of what It gives you. You can just unlock this gesture by playing through the game to earn it. They should at least give you no only the gesture but his gear too. And for the loot goblin amiibo. Its a great amiibo to use because in a video I saw you earn a chance to go to a portal in a dungeon where you can rack up experience points and money.

I don't know if this is well known or not, but the Shovel Knight amiibo unlocks a boss fight against Shovel Knight in Gunvolt 2 (on both 3DS and Switch), which is super cool.

I think the yarn yoshi amiibo is one of the best by the fact of you can activate a second yoshi to use as shield copy and weapon. And also the poochy amiibo that appears when you scan it. You can make any level with him and its pretty op.

Look at Teddy Together for Nintendo 3DS. game was originally titled "Kumatomo"and released in Japan on 2013 by Bandai Namco, 3 years later Nintendo localized it to Europe with the title "Teddy Together". the game was criticised for the bears voice acting, and the Amiibo support.

First I am happy that someone still do videoes about amiibo. Second, you should stick on amiibo cross platform value but not on specific game. For example how can Shulk amiibo become the worst amiibo if it is the smash line amiibo. Same go for zelda amiibo. They do great on Breath of the Wild but bad on Twilight Princess doesn't make it bad amiibo. Second, did you know Chibi Robo amiibo unlock new in game state, that additional information for you. 3rd, Fire Emblem amiibo should on best list and animal crossing amiibo should be on worst list(at least for now). Lastly, I am happy to see your more amiibo video but please do more research and understand about it. Thanks.

One quick correction on the Shovel Knight amiibo functionality - Since the Switch version came out in 2017, the multiplayer has been free on console versions. Plus they added more content (SK Fairy) to make up for taking that functionality away from the figure.
