EVERY DAY, as a truck driver, i see people refusing to move over for emergency vehicles. What's even worse, whenever people see a truck driver turn on their turn signal, attempting to change lanes away from the emergency vehicle, everyone behind him "speeds up" to block us from changing lanes. It's absolutely disgusting the entitlement attitude of drivers in this country. God forbid it takes them an extra 30 seconds to get to their destination.

This stuff pisses me off to no end. Ridiculous and unnecessary. There's no such thing as a "car accident" in any form. It's just negligence pure and simple. You're behind a 2 ton deadly tool and it's your responsibility to be alert, aware, and responsible. But people just don't seem to care and they hand licenses out to anyone with a pulse. I'm in NJ and the amount of people who just blow through construction zones, past broken down vehicles, and any kind of flashing lights is astounding. Unfortunately this will continue until the police actually start holding people accountable and actually enforcing these "move over" laws. No one ever gets cited or pulled over for it around here. One strike should be an automatic license suspension for 1-3 months similar to some DUI laws in states.
@bradleymcwilliams634818 күн бұрын
I blame car company adds "You're extra special, you should drive the ridiculously over-powered Belchfire 4000 and show all them other drivers just how important you are!" I blame lawyers, they have created this entire belief of "Accident=Payday". Criminal that there's so much money to be made off accidents, folks hear about multi-million dollar payouts, so they drive as though they hope they get hit. And lawyers advertise it the same way a casino advertises big jackpots. For some reason the same person that would gladly step back and hold the door for you entering the grocery store will defend his "territory" while driving regardless of the havoc it causes. And we know it isn't going to change...

That was just a bad truck driver. They text and look at pretty screens that should not be in any vehicle while driving too. Any decent driver can see the flashing lights of emergency vehicles quite a ways off.
@bradleymcwilliams634818 күн бұрын
Respectfully please, may I asked what you learned from this? Not being snarky, but there's a lesson or two here, have you applied them? Let me explain. First, your comment is "driver moved over right where we were". Might you have been in a blind spot, it's hard to see a vehicle next to a truck. Lesson 1 is don't camp next to large vehicles, and drive with your lights on always. Did you see the emergency lights before the incident? If so, a driver should be aware of his surroundings and made room for the truck to move over anticipating that action. Lesson 2, driving is a lot like chess, you have to anticipate several moves ahead. Did you not see the emergency lights before hand? Lesson 3 is to change your habits so that you're more aware of what lies ahead. I wasn't there, have no clue to the actual details, I'm certain you were an unfortunate victim of circumstances. And I'm certainly not saying you were in the wrong, but driving is the most dangerous thing any of us do, yet it treated a cavalierly as walking in the park. Even if you were in the right, look for the lessons. Be safe out there!
@JohnBrad-zg3qs18 күн бұрын

Yeah makes sense they say don’t drive and use your phone but there telling you to look out for that little icon and sometimes you can’t move over if there’s cars right or left of you and why is this cop picking up debris in the road at night not smart
@odesangel19 күн бұрын
Scott's Law doesn't require drivers to move over if the conditions don't allow it. It does require people to slow down, which people don't often do. Debris on the road at night is dangerous. Aside from low visibility, people instinctively swerve to avoid debris and may lose control or hit other vehicles. Removing the debris will make the road safer for everyone else driving on the road. Ensuring public safety is what police officers are supposed to do.

@@j.daniels1548 There are countless videos on YT of law enforcement officers conducting traffic stops where their vehicle is angled to provide a buffer between the officer and the roadway, and they were struck by inattentive drivers. Drivers that crashed into the patrol vehicle which then crashed into the stopped vehicle and the officer standing next to the stopped vehicle. This video showed examples of ISP vehicles that were crashed into. What is insane is that there are public service announcements, billboards, traffic warning signs and cellphone alerts that remind drivers about the law and the need to move over, yet these crashes continue to occur because drivers won’t slow down, move over or take their eyes off of their phones and pay attention to driving.

Police STILL have to use their common sense and experience in these situations. I still look both ways when crossing the street, I don't take for granted people will see me and stop. These accidents will continue to happen on busy interstates. A law didn't save the life of this officer and it won't save the life of the next one. I was on interstate 55 headed north. A cop had pulled over someone, 1/2 of his car was literally sticking out in the right lane from the shoulder. The highways were so busy. It was definitely a stupid and very unsafe move on the cops part. There was plenty of room to get his car out of the lane onto the shoulder. But, when you think you are all that and a bag of chips, this is what happens. SLOW DOWN and MOVE OVER? YES! Park your squad car or any car for that matter on the interstate?
