I’ve been driving for 6 years, both as an Uber driver and as a cargo van driver (delivery driver). In my opinion, speeding on the highway is relatively safe. However, speeding in residential areas is not acceptable due to the presence of children. Most auto collisions, based on my observation, occur on roads with stop signs, during tailgating, on snowy, foggy, or rainy days, or at poorly designed and complicated intersections such as multiple-lane traffic circles (roundabouts). Catching speeders on a bright, sunny day seems to be a waste of time, in my opinion.

The biggest issue in Connecticut is the locals clogging the passing lane. It's always a CT plate in left lane, blocking traffic, creating mile long traffic jams because people can't comprehend the law KEEP RIGHT, EXCEPT TO PASS. If the state police would just enforce the passing lane law, you wouldn't be having people speeding, weaving through traffic. Once you pass on the left, get back into the travel lane. It's a very simple directive to follow, yet locals in CT don't seem to grasp it.

I agree. Speed limits on US roads, especially highways, haven’t kept up with the modernization of vehicles that can travel at greater speeds much more safely than older model cars. Better breaking, better suspension, greater controlled acceleration, and overall better handling. While on the thruway here in upstate NY in see the average driver, doesn’t matter what age, race or gender going 10 or more above the posted speed limit which can vary from 55 to 65. I usually try to not go higher than 10 over since you run the risk of getting stopped (I learned this by doing 92 in a 65😮😅). I was respectful and luckily the trooper let me off with a seat belt ticket in place of a speeding ticket.

@mikemrod-7167

@@tomservo5007 While this is true for most local and side roads, there are many straightaway roads such as most sections of the US Thruway system that would allow for higher speeds, instead of 65 miles per hour. Something like the thruway should allow drivers to drive at a rate of at least 85 miles per hour in my opinion, provided that the road is straight for a few miles. This doesn’t necessarily mean that all sections of said highway should be set for such speeds. And, atleast in NY State, left hand exits/entrances are very rare.

No one maintains a car that they are abusing. Try buying a used M3 from a young male driver. Lower income people skimp on their car's maintenance. Sometimes I think people should be allowed to get a permit to speed. The permit should only be valid for cars that are new to a maximum age of 5 years and a maximum odemetor of 75,000. The permit should be valid for 1 year and cost $100 for every MPH above the speed limit allowed and the fine for speeding without a permit should be $1,000 for every MPH above the posted speed limit.

Roads and traffic law are still living in 1956. Meanwhile, vehicle safety and technology easily allows for speeds at 80mph. With all the taxes collected by CT in 7 decades, you'd think perhaps they could modernize interstates to allow for higher speeds. But then again, that would put a dent in their revenue collection.
@kirk1618
@kirk1618 2 ай бұрын
They did have a chance. Your gas tax is supposed to be for funding the highways. Years ago, in the 70s, the politicians decided to put the fuel tax proceeds into the general fund. They spent the money on other things other than roads and bridges. The interstates were still fairly new and didn't need much for maintenance and upgrades. Instead of collecting and investing for the future, the money has been spent, the fuel tax increased, the addition of the state income tax, and much more. What do you, as a CT taxpayer have to show for it? An antiquated highway system, funds piddled away, and more revenue generating schemes coming from your state government. I know, I was there in the 70's, 80's, and 90s. I heard the promises, saw the removal of the tolls on 95, have seen the perpetual construction. We left. I don't even like going back to visit. The traffic is insane. Who would have ever thought I-95 would be stop and go from NY to RI? Anyone with a little fore thought would have. Now there is so much traffic, safety regulations, and behind the 8 ball, CT will never be able to afford bringing the CT interstates to modern standards. Keep voting those politicians in that will spend your blind. I'm not accusing any political party, look at the individuals.

A Ford Explorer ST is as fast as a Lamborghini Countach from the 80s. A 2020 Toyota Camry V6 makes 300 horsepower, over 100 more than a 2000 Camry V6. Dodge released a Demon 170 Challenger that makes 1,025 horsepower and a 1.6 second 0-60. Cars have gotten faster and quite honestly you are living under a rock to think otherwise...

Have you considered going five or seven miles over just for your own safety? You could be a hazard if every single car is flying past you. Not to mention you may actually be going UNDER depending on your model of car as some makers set the speed maybe 2 miles per hour vs what you see on your dash.

The most trouble I ever got into was when I owned a 117HP Honda Civic. It had very tall gearing and took forever to reach 100, but I liked going fast and couldn't afford anything with power, so I spent a lot of time accelerating and racked up a lot of tickets, leading to my license being suspended for 6 months. I've been ticket-free for 8 years and have had some faster vehicles since and the things I've done would make this news story seem like a joke, if we start talking numbers.

Connecticut needs more police officers on the highways especially those “ Fast and Furious “ drivers. Take away their licenses and impound their vehicles for “ Reckless driving” . They also need to clamp down on those vehicles that have modified exhaust systems that make the vehicles sound louder. I am sure if you check the exhaust systems you will find the catalytic converters missing.

They’re arrogant enough to not realize that at a highway merge point they need to get into the left lane so merging traffic can just slide right in. They don’t, they stay in the right lane and intentionally speed up to keep you from getting in front of them. At the same time they’re ignoring the car behind you who’s speeding up to merge as well. Sometimes to ensure a seamless accident free merge I’ve had to hit 100 or 110 mph cause they’re trying that hard to edge me out

Most speed limits on US roads are stuck in the bygone era. Modernization of vehicles now allow for greater speeds at a safer cost than before. Technological advancements ranging from better breaking systems, better controlled acceleration, better arrow dynamics and overall better handling equate to being able to handle higher speeds more safely than older model cars.

Sometimes you have to get up to 90 mph just to merge in. See the car beside you is unintentionally speeding up to keep you from getting ahead of them, while the car behind you is speeding up to merge in themselves. Therefore my only option is to floor it and merge in. Once I’ve merged in I can adjust my speed, but until you do something about the aggressive drivers who move to cut off others you’ll never stop the speeding problem
