Bob Dorough lived in my hometown in the Poconos, PA and it was always an amazing time watching him play the piano and sing SHR songs. Cool guy.

Can’t believe he was in his late 40s/early 50s during the SHR era. I always pictured some 20-something “hippie” type at the other end of that voice. Without his voice, you probably wouldn’t have been able to call it “rock”. It would have been “Schoolhouse Folk” or, in this case, “Schoolhouse Jazz”.

Realizing this track from 1976 is one of the things that influenced my love of hot jazz, Boogie-woogie, and blues. It is so funny to hear a song that you knew as a kid and think, "No wonder this stuck in my head; it rocks!"

Interesting fact Originally it was Life Liberty and Property. Property being anything that you can claim as your own, your thoughts, your opinions. It was part of your life and liberty. But they changed it in the finale draft but they didn’t deny that you had a right to property as it say among these are the right to life liberty and the pursuit Happiness. But really its Life Liberty and property, and you use that to pursue happiness.

Right. Phillip Livingston was in the Continental Congress, and a signer of the Declaration of Independence, ,but not the Constitution. Robert Livingston was on the Committee of Five. The songwriter got them confused.

Actually the Declaration of Independence was signed on the July 2,1776, July 4th was the final draft and publishing date. Ref: History Channel documentary on the DOI.
