The dialogue is different if you use your power. Also the dialogue depends on who you talked to most recently to get rid of your tadpole. I got Nettie most recently.

What’s incredible about the Dream Visitor/Lover is just how honest they are about everything, even if they speak in cryptic circles. They tell you the truth when you ask a question and it is so refreshing after dealing with so much cageyness from other NPCs and even your own companions. Your Guardian is truly on your side.

@@Call-me-Creeds See, everything in Act 3 just cemented my feelings for the guardian so you and I are going to have vastly different feelings on this topic. However, since you asked: They promise that they will keep you safe and protect you from turning into a Mind Flayer, openly admitting that they are doing such with a power that they stole. They tell you that there is a fight for the fate of Faerûn, a fight that you are currently losing, a fight that embracing the powers of the tadpole will give you an edge in. They tell you that your tadpole cannot be removed, that you will perish if you try. That if you want it gone, you have to destroy the source of the tadpole’s magic/power. They tell you that said tadpoles allow the Absolute to speak to those that are infected, and that that is how the Absolutists, the True Souls, and the Chosen gaining so much ground -making another reference to that fight for the fate of Faerûn. They tell you that if the Absolute gives the order to transform, those who are infected will immediately become Mind Flayers. They tell you that they are an adventurer, that they were infected with a parasite, that they seek to be free of its ability to control them, that they’ve been attempting to escape it for a long time, that they once were almost able to, that you are their new chance. They tell you that if you work together, you can turn the tide for this war going on. All of these are truths. Granted there is omission of certain *details* but after Shadowheart, Wyll, and *especially* Gale, I didn’t even blink when I found out what those omissions were. Also, the *other* option left a foul taste in my mouth due to the reaction you get from the source of the power the guardian was using to protect you immediately after. Give me the intelligent, protective, understanding, encouraging, sensitive, and grateful Guardian any day.

I also find him very much an ally. Hating on him coz he's what he is IS very racist as he has his race's inclinations (aside from occasion dips on criminals) well in check and therefore is as civil as a certain other fellow you meet. He is much more well-adjusted and pragmatic than almost anyone in your group. He has his preferred way of dealing things that he suggests to you but he always respected your freedom. He never leaves you despite you disagreeing or doing things differently from his suggestions until the very end. That's so much more that can be said compared to any of your companions who have their potential red lines much earlier in the story. Having him around is actually a way to NOT turning..and if you do let him do the deed, they never turn on you...unless YOU'RE the one who pushed him into giving into his racial urges.

@@Call-me-Creeds the short answer to your question in regards to him turning on you is “no.” You have to make specific choices for him to turn on you like that; he literally only turns on you as a complete last resort. Also, I glean that you missed the part of the video where the KZbinr asked for people not to put spoilers in the comment section.

@@pul0y this! All of this! There are exceptions to rules, and he is one of them. He tells you nothing but the truth and is open with you in all things save *that* thing, the thing that could turn you against him and doom everyone in the process. He is, quite literally, your most stalwart ally throughout your entire journey. He saves your life, protects you, guides you, and all he asks in return is for you to take a chance on him so that he may finally have what he values most: his freedom. I could never fault him for that. Plus, the *other* option (I saved before I made my choice because I wanted to see what would happen) left a foul taste in my mouth because one of the first things that the *other one* tells you is that you are an abomination and that you should have “submitted” yourself to be killed, as that would’ve been the “honorable” thing to do; acting like he wouldn’t have his own freedom if it wasn’t for you. The Guardian was my first choice, and remains my primary one because of all he does for you throughout the game. Plus, if you make a certain choice, he calls you “exquisite.” THEN if you make another *certain* choice, he even offers to make things more “familiar” for you, and shows his humanity when he is hurt if you reject him as he is. He is a remarkable character, and probably my favorite in the game. Larian did a phenomenal job with him.

At this point - the second dream - I also started wondering if he's not a physical being - not any more at least - and trapped IN the artifact itself. But what I also wonder about is that because after the dream we can talk with our people back in the camp and *every one of them* had the same visits, just the DV looked differently for every one of them... so I'm wondering whether that means this appearance is not his *real* self? That the act of creating them in character creator was equivalent to us giving them form within our dreams, or at least change the form we see them as, if that makes sense. But is it benevolent with DV simply taking on an image that the Tav fancies? Or is it malevolent, an attempt at manipulation? Will we ever see their *true* face? For what it's worth (and without spoilers, based on early act 2 info), I think that face - once revealed - will have quite a nose on them. Economical. Disciplined. Dignified. Thank you for the amazing videos, so glad I'm finally caught up enough to view at least some of them!

Yeah that's honestly the one thing that puts me off.. that I forgot to mention here. Because it IS a bit strange that everyone sees their own version of it.. Which also leads you to believe that this being has visited everyone equally and that you don't necessarily matter. Almost like he's a hacker and trying everyone possible entrance in.. but for this game at least, I'm going along with it because I want to see what will happen! And hey! It might turn out well! Or I might get horribly stabbed in the back lol!

@@Mmogurl Githyanki Creche (late act 1/early act 2) SPOILER BELOW! ... .. . Just to be safe! Anywho, like you said, this all makes it seem like they (the DV) were fishing and waiting to see what bites (and by gods did I bite that sucker like my Tav's life depends on it - and hey, it probably does!).. making me pause. But that changes - the whole dynamic does - if/when Tav enteres the artifact after speaking with Vlaakith at the monastery (and presumably after defending the DV). Once we enter the Astral plane and want to go into the cave, *only one person is permitted entry* and that's our Tav. DV even asks "aren't YOU the one in charge?" - it's no longer impersonal, prefabricated messages and dreams, but a real conversation between these particular individuals, first time on our terms, too. And I don't think it's a coincidence that the next dream we have (and notice we can no longer "compare notes" with others in the camp, suggesting no one had the dreams any more i.e. we got fished out successfully, yay!), DV appears in that damned "casual" mini tunic lol and is significantly more.. humane, voulnerable even. Literally has taken their armour off. I really like it damnit haha and want to see what happens too consequences be damned.. but mah white haired tricky potato has to come first! So will probably end up counting on you to fill in the void.. or my Tav will end up being a dream slut - which I'm sure he would not mind too much, either lol

OH MY GOD! I didn't saw the icon next to the map at all and I'm in Act 3 now! 😂 I can't believe I didn't notice it during all this time!! Same as you when he (or anyone else) talked about using the tadpole power I though they were talking about the "illithid option" during dialogs! (That's why I always avoided using these options because I didn't want to use the tadpole's powers, I feel like it's not a good idea at all. 😅I don't want to turn into a squiddy girl or something. 🤣)
