AHHH thank you for this! I love Pen, he is quite possibly my favorite romance in all of Sandrock. I convinced my sister to romance him too, and it has been so entertaining to watch her reactions as the story progresses 😂

11:25 was just typing this; scroll of wall of fire plus a paladin with misty step and the repulsor tadpole upgrade meant nearly every enemy kept running into the fire wall and dying, and the archers that didn't, my husband's paladin PC could just misty step over and repulsor everyone INTO it 😅

I liked Astation before playing bg3. Now I'm trying to make him not leave the group because I keep helping people and somehow he hates that. Brother, whats ur fk problem, I don't want the tieflings to die, I don't want the myconids to die and obviously I don't want the svirfneblins to die, I'm literally a gnome too dude! Lmao, keep the evil below my height!

It is kind of sad that if you choose option 2 at 3:29 he still does it for the party and like many of the options, it really does not give you insight into his character until you experience that it is how you say the information to him, not what, is what affects his choice in the end, which could take you another playthrough, never actually realizing what the real character of Astarion was, well, beside the obvious we all like/hate.

I do see the 'friends' option as a double edged sword. Like, in the moment, all the pressure is off him. For a moment he looks upset, and then relieved. He dosnt have to worry about them breaking up with him anymore. Plus he gets a friend, which is amazing for him, but he also stops learning how to be in a close, healthy relationship (like, either with or without sex). That eventual graveyard scene sells it for me. And I just imagine him sat at the camp whilst Tav is with another companion. My choice is usually Gale if Im not with Star. Its not about him knowing Tav is having sex with someone sometimes, or even maybe accidently overhearing it happening. Its what hes seeing whilst a Tav/other companion is are clothed. The cute little pair bondy stuff that people usually do when in a comitted relationship. Little smooches. Snoozing whilst hugging. Injokes. Cute talk. Sitting on each others laps, all up in their personal space. And happy about it. Stuff that he has never known. I kinda think that would start to eat him after awhile if he realises he wants that. I think either marrying Gale or Wyll would just be the worst for him because both guys have serious romantic streaks. And Star would know he easily could have had that stability too. But didnt know he did in the vital moment, or thought that his path towards it was a sheer, smooth insurmountable cliff face, when it was actually just a kinda steep hill. Or that Tav just straight up deserved better than him, or wouldnt be willing, able or should be expected to hold their horses on the sex front.

I wish you could tell Astarion that there is a part of whoever he was still in him, and that's what made him decide to not ascend. When he tells you the heartbreaking story about how he was imprisoned in a tomb for a year after he spared someone from being another one of Cazador's victims, I think that right there is who he was. He saved someone from a terrible fate and he did that without Tav or the tadpole. Off topic but I love that you made that little reference to BTVS, I think Astarion is very much like Spike, who I had a major crush on when I was younger.

I have a question about Astarion romance. Firstly, so back information. I created Tavish to romance Astarion. My thinking was someone who wouldn't just kill/stake Astarion for crossing boundaries. I modled him off a friend of mine who tries not to kill anything. I guess you can see my complications knowing Astarion. Though Tavish is soft hearted he is a Ranger/hunter and Beastmaster so he's aware of dangers and always up for a challenge. He is really handsome half elf, strictly gay. I feel that meeting Astarion he , being Adept at reading monsters, saw right right through Astarion defense mechanisms. Tavish is in the shadow lands and after meeting Abja the blood dealer, he got the scars on the back scene in camp. In the dialogue options, Tavish never questioned Astarion why he didn't want to bite her. Tavish just figured no was no. Is there a difference in this choice? First line is supporting Astarion decisions without question. He knows Astarion keeps secrets just like Shadowheart and he's OK with that. He trusts his gut. This is my 6th playthrough and the only one where Astarion lives. Yes, my 5 other games he died. No regrets. I'm a roll player, and none of My characters would have such a threat i n camp. Tavish even gave Astarion the Thay book of the dead. -that was cute. But hell no, Tavish didn't let Astarion suck his blood!!! Tavish is soft not dumb. Sorry I know it's a game and there are rewards to dumb decisions but allowing someone to dominate you is not something any character I write will do. It's asking to be a slave and if the tadpole wasn't enough! Especially to someone not trustworthy!! Anyway, Tavish approval is almost to the green. ..and we're in the shadow lands. What can Tavish do that doesn't go against his principals. Tavish is a strong willed man with integrity. I guess Tavish is trying to bring Astarion to the light. - not all in the world is evil or out to get you. I guess this player through will see if the nice guy can do it.

When I see people make him bite her in their playthroughs, I want to cry. He hates it so much, and in my opinion, it is never worth the strength boost.

Dude I've got 100 hours into this game at this point and I still haven't even met River. I only know he exists (let alone is romanceable) because the internet has told me so. Takemura has so much screen time in this game he's basically a third main character. Anyone who's ever written something romantic could tell you that building chemistry between characters is literally what it's all about, and Takemura and V had chemistry for dayyys. I will never understand why they threw away their golden goose hottie for some dude I never seen. Laaaaaaame.

Not sure why but for whatever reason when I tried to get the conversation after helping resurrect Mayrina husband I didn't get that extra conversation to get his approval what did I do wrong?

What did for me in 2024, turn off cross saving by logging out in the launcher. It was the auto save that somehow froze the game.

Driver 427.37 will not install on my RTX4070 plus PC, the game plays fine on my RTX2060 laptop... very strange

Voices actors deserve more recognition, they deserve awards as well because it's them who bring characters to life whether for animated content or for dubbing. I grew up watching french dubbed series and sometimes the dub brought more tone and personality to a character than the original actors themselves, iconic voice performances are so memorable. Thank you for doing this interview with Alex Ross, and thank you Alex Ross for your amazing interpretation of Pen and Owen's characters 👏👏👏

Arcane Tower is easy if you collect the blooms elsewhere. Todd them by the turrets and the bloom anti magic field disabled them.

You can also get disapproval and be fully honest and that ending line makes much more sense bc i answered elbow deep in gore bc that's genuinely honest then i chose freedom then not being a slave to anyone bc those are the complete honest truths and that line said with slight anger of i almost wish you hadn't been just fit better then using the lesser truths

I did not have Astarion in my group when I initially found the book. I got him into my group, then read it again, and he said that the book looks heavy and to let him carry it instead. But there is no special dialogue option to hand it over. Can I just place it in his inventory? And then what, do I wait for him to act on his own, or must I manually read it with him and place the amethyst into the mouth to open it?

The way I avoided fighting the owlbear mother is through intimidation. She regards you as food, so you just step towards her. When she rebuffs you, ask her what she is waiting for? Finally, threaten that she will watch her cub die before you die. She will then back down

I have super high insight but apparently no perception and I've never seen this hug portion. 😢 I even saved right before it and tried to hit the roll several times I'm not sure why it's so hard to see this scene

if anyone had trouble like i did where only the amulet was showing up in the basket, put it on and use it on yourself and the ghost basket will appear in your inventory, enter tb mode and then send the items to camp!! i might just be stupid but it took me forever to figure it out so hopefully this helps anyone else having the same trouble 😭

Another aspect that makes this opportunity easily missed is that if you enter Moonrise Tower and have the initial encounter with Ketheric before a long rest, "Part 1" of that dialogue scene does not happen. You do not have wisdom and intelligence checks pop up at all. The guardian instead talks about the Absolute and Ketheric. Then, the same dialogue as "Part 2" plays out.
