From my personal opinion, free is nice, but what I really want is affordability and not selling your arm and a leg to pay off student loans.

Then that means the government doesn't matter what body of government it is needs to butt out because if we're just going by the people with no confliction or interference from those programs colleges are going to have to go by what people can afford because you can't make them pay for what they might get in the future with their college education the other thing that they try to hide behind or loans because as far as I know lenders are supposed to give you loans for higher education of course they're still limits but most of the time you're allowed to get a higher percentage of money than you would for a personal loan but I think a lot of people go by semester rather than year or the entire tuition fee but depending on interest rates and of course if you don't have the lock-in tuition that normally is the big problem also get rid of those stupid non-essential classes go for actual career Focus cuz nobody really does that even schools that claim they do still make you take unnecessary classes that has nothing to do with the career and if it does it should be more integrated into another course of study rather than being its own class which means you have to pay for more credits it's ridiculous

Alternative: eliminate occupational licensing, get government out of the student loan business, and allow for alternative funding like income share agreements. Prices will decrease, the ability to go to college without going into debt will increase, and the need to go to college to get a good career in the first place will decrease as well.

You missed a gaping logical flaw in your argument about military vets, only a small percentage of people will ever be military vets and children are so cushioned today they never attain that type of discipline, if you can take a few rounds over your head you can pass a french exam easily, actions and consequences have been disassociated through ridiculous ideological pedagoguery, giving everyone who thinks they deserve college for free enables slackers to take out the few who actually wish to participate, and it is obvious if someone calculated the benefit of going to college beforehand they WOULD take out the loans or go to the military to get the degree because it's worth it's self over 4x for the AVERAGE achiever, if people feel they do not know what they want or how they will achieve it i.e no plan, then free college just detracts from the actual achievers slots, and we all pay more in taxes so people can fuck off in college stealing those spots, truth is almost every community college is already free through pell grants and scholarships etc. So no you don't have any argument whatsoever.

So many people waste their degrees every day and they still barely make more than a high school grad maybe reduce prices for colleges anywhere form 25-50 % but if you make it free people will take it for granted. Also community college is pretty cheap

Nothing like having to "earn" something completely necessary in the modern economy. Requiring young often-directionless men to risk their life - against those who the government deems an enemy - in exchange for an education. Coercion at its worst. What a toxic mindset. Sounds like something straight out of the Hunger Games.

@@itsbeyondme5560 I live in Wisconsin. Nearly half of funding for public schools in Wisconsin comes from local property taxes. That means the quality of education a child gets is often tied to where they live. Public schools in poorer neighborhoods can have less money than public schools in more affluent neighborhoods. Whether you like it or not, your tax dollars pay for public schools. You've also paid for high school drop outs. You also probably paid for a storm water fee without knowing it. I'm sure there's plenty of things your tax dollars go to without your knowledge and you wouldn't bat an eye at it. But as soon as future generations are offered something to better their likelihood at getting a career in this country you complain. Like if you were given an opportunity to better educate yourself, get an opportunity to obtain a career you wanted to be in. Which ultimately helps the nation as a whole. You have more skilled labor, more professional workforce in the country. Instead not a lot of people get very far. They are held back by banks, the wage they make and so many other factors that you simply cannot go from rags to riches. Rags to riches DOES NOT exist anymore. Why? Because our country is literally trying to divide its people into a caste system. The ultra rich want to control what we eat, drink, watch etc etc etc. If you can't see that from everything that has happened within the last decade. You are obviously blind and only care about a political party that DOES NOT care about you.

Was discussing this recently with people on street corner who were very excited to enroll for free (i guess its happening or so they said) and these are not ppl who you want at your college. They are waay past the age of a student, grimy, and ratchet af. This happens at trade schools somewhat already, the first weeks are over crowded from tramps on ankle bracelets who are just cashing in on student loans before dropping out. Some instructors dont care if ppl have to sit on the floors as long as their class gets future funds and more tramps trickle in late to an already over crowded room as the first week goes by. The lab is over crowded giving serious students less time on shared stations. But in faculty eye it ensures government funding.

*Pros*: _Tuition free college will help decrease crippling student debt_ -Average debt: $37K -1987 - 2017, public tuition costs rose 213% -Debt is burdensome for decades _Past Policies (GI BILL 1944)_ Allowed 2.2 million veterans to earn college education and vocational training for free Nearly half of all students in 1947 were veterans Recipients generated an extra $35.6 billion in five years and extra $12.8 billion tax revenue Paying for itself nearly 7x over Higher levels of volunteering, voting, charitable giving Thousand of doctors, dentists, engineers, and presidents _Education is a requirement and a right now_ 75% of fastest growing occupations require a college degree College grads make $570,000 more lifetime and less unemployment Students from low-moderate income unable to afford 95% American colleges A century ago high school was becoming a necessity, not a luxury --> now college *Cons*: _Students will still have large debts_ Tuition is only 40% of all college costs 2013: $19K average debt in Sweden (even though it has free college) vs $25K in US _Taxpayers would spend billions to subsidize tuition_ Bernie Sanders: $47 billion plan, 1/3 cost by states This would force states to reallocate their spending from others things to higher education It would cost about $1360/year per taxpayer College costs remain high for many other reasons besides tuition _Tuition free college will decrease completion rates_ California: only 10% completed 2 year degree in 6 years Students will enroll, pay for other things, still drop out with loan 40% college enrollment rate today compared to 3% in 1909 26 countries have free college

My mother couldn't tell me why we shouldn't pay for college like nothing reasonable that could cripple us as a society her main argument was that other people before now had to pay for their schooling by themselves no one else should have to pay for their education and a lot of people Echo that sentiment and I think it's disgusting cuz it's basically saying well I had to go through it so you do too it's just how life is rhetoric which is complete nonsensical b******* because guess what if we really stuck with that sentiment that nothing should change we'd still be living like cavemen cuz I'm pretty sure if they were here now and see what we have become and what we have and how it benefits us they would want the same a realistic Flintstone era and I also brought out the fact that we paid for children who are not our own to go to school she said that's different even though I know plenty of people who says they want to have tax exemptions if they don't have children themselves to go to school because they are not children they are adults making a choice again b******* because everyone needs education everyone needs to learn some sort of trade to not only better themselves but to also be contributing members of society that will in turn help us and she tries to come back that with people not going to school for actual essential careers like gender studies which honestly I know exist but I don't believe it's as much as she claims and even if that were the case I would believe certain colleges and career fields you would have to pay by yourself such as entertainment and the Arts if it's not part of an actual necessity because what we need the most are medical professionals and mechanical engineers those are considered essential and if the government's not paying for that likelihood those things will exist still but they would be more affordable to other people the big thing for any of these career choices you need to get rid of the non-essential classes that has nothing to do with the career field it's idiotic it's just shows that college is even trade schools are nothing more than money Mills and her rebuttal was essentially going back to the previous thing that taxpayers just don't want to pay for other people's stuff and it's not stuff again going back to the previous it helps everyone including taxpayers because guess what taxpayers can also benefit from this they don't think about that or thinking that young people straight out of high school are not going to be taxpayers you don't get a tax exemption for being in College I mean if you really want to make sure that they are contributing while they're going to school tell them they have to get a part-time job and really this would be beneficial to the young people it might suck because you got to do a lot of things at the same time but ultimately you're also gaining funding for other stuff either when you need it or now and definitely when you graduate this way you have something under your belt even if it doesn't really apply to the career it just shows that you were a hard worker and like I said older taxpayers who have already gone through college or maybe haven't even gone to college can have a chance to go back to school they can benefit from this and then her last her rebuttal had to do with illegal immigrants well that's an easy fix you have to either be a citizen or be on some sort of Visa that allows you to work and study cuz we have those things and of course still have programs that are supposed to help immigrants to become citizens because I don't believe the whole 10-year BS to get your citizenship three to five is a lot more reasonable but she would not drop the whole we shouldn't have to pay for other people's choices I love my mother but this is a hill I'm willing to die on cuz regardless of what happens it's either taxpayers need to pay for it or the government needs to butt the f*** out which would make it a lot more affordable especially when we are the ones telling them what we will and will not pay for to an extent of course they have to make some sort of regulations and rules

you don't need to guess about things. if you researched the figures, you could look at how it works in the northern European union, already. even poorer places like ex-soviet countries Poland has implemented it. it brings more money to GDP than it takes. its profitable investment to taxpayers, to GDP. but sure, stick to your guns, we are not forcing others to follow our route. we can get back to you when you want to ask how it's done.

You do realize that saying it increases GDP is a tautology. GDP is defined in such a way that government spending always increases GDP, regardless if it is good or bad government spending. If the government spend billions a year in teaching kids useless things, then the GDP would increase in comparable amounts even though nobody cares for said useless things and it adds no real wealth to the economy. The thing is that the government is responsible for the increase in education costs in the first place and now they demand that the people who chose not to go to college, like me, pay for it, like WTF! This entire thing is a scam, the government is very good at crippling us and then giving us a crutch and saying "see we helped".
