@HelenBradley4 жыл бұрын
Good question! Watch this video of mine - it explains it all: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKqynIeOmM59oLM Let me know if you have questions after you have watched that video?
@CynergyDiva4 жыл бұрын
@@HelenBradley LOL yeah. I should have done that first. Another question though. When I scaled the pattern, it also scaled the shape I applied it to even with the transform object unchecked. What I was going for was to scale it down enough to fit more checks in the available space. Is that doable?
@HelenBradley4 жыл бұрын
It totally should work with Transform Object unchecked and Transform Patterns checked - just make sure that you have Preview enabled so you can see it! If it ever happens to me that things don't work as expected I close Illustrator and restart it - often that solves the issue. See how you go?
@alannahmahon13773 жыл бұрын
Hi, I loved the simple explanation you gave for how to achieve this pattern. I'm just having trouble getting the third tile to reduce in opacity. Do you know how I could solve this? When I reduce the opacity nothing happens.
@HelenBradley3 жыл бұрын
Hmm. I am not sure what you mean by third tile? I made two shapes, overlapped them then selected them and reduced the opacity - I just rechecked and it works just fine. Can you please tell me what point of the video you are having problems - the time stamp? Also make sure you are adjusting the Opacity on the entire shape. In the Appearance panel the Stroke, Fill and entire shape have Opacity settings (so there are three Opacity entries for every shape), choose and adjust the bottom most one.
@alannahmahon13773 жыл бұрын
@@HelenBradley Thanks so much for replying. I was referring to the square where the shapes are overlapped. Changing the opacity doesn't seem to have any effect on the squares.
@alannahmahon13773 жыл бұрын
@@HelenBradley I actually got it to work by using the Transparency function instead

Helen, I have a question? Why isn't my pattern aligned to my artboard??? It's off centered? I followed the instructions to the letter? What am I doing wrong??? thanks so much.
@HelenBradley6 жыл бұрын
Great question Jade. This video might help you understand and troubleshoot this issue: kzbin.info?o=U&video_id=UcwbjOAY9YI Basically, patterns have their own inherent behaviour and you have to move them to where you want them to be.

How could u make 4 different color squares instead of just having two colors ?

Yes, of course. Just select each quarter square and colour it differently and you’ll be good to go.

Hi, do you have any idea of where I can find the pattern maker in CS3? I can't find it. It's not under object as in the video?Hope that you can help me. Thanks.
@HelenBradley9 жыл бұрын
+Kpultz Hi there, unfortunately the pattern maker is not available in CS5 and earlier versions (so not in CS3). You will need to make your patterns the old way. I don't have a video on doing this (as yet) but I have found a good one for you. This is by a woman called sewheidi. She is pretty well known and she it pretty clear in her instructions. Find her video here: sewheidi.com/videos/repeating-patterns-in-illustrator-manually-cs5-earlier/

Hi, thanks a lot. I'll have a look at the link. I'll upgrade soon... Your videos are great but sometimes a bit hard to follow because of my old version - I'm totally outdatet... ;D

I am sorry about that. CS3 is getting a bit old right now. You can still do a lot of things with it but you'll probably really enjoy the upgrade.

@HelenBradley9 жыл бұрын
snippidippi Hi there, did you make sure that the Preview box is checked? Can you try again and let me know so I can see if we can solve this for you? The Preview checkbox isn't checked by default in Illustrator which is why I wonder if this is the (simple) solution.
@snippidippi9 жыл бұрын
I solved it, you need to check the meny at right "scale strokes & effects" after that it works
