He is without a doubt my most favorite character ever! :) i think he's amazing character no other character can compete with him he also has the most amazing facial expressions i've ever seen. Who ever created the character for the movie is a genius. It always amazes me how you can instantly like him without even knowing the character when you watch it the first time.

I think he would have a good idea as to the layout of things underground. I know all kids think they know everything and what 10-year-old WOULDN'T want a chance to go fight goblins and be victorious, but that was a weird line for him to say. They could have come up with a better justification for him to go, even, again, if it only made sense to the mind of a child.

@Swags21 Perhaps because: a) The Goblins just aren't that clever. b) They lack sufficient materials to make effective footwear. c) Wearing stone shoes all the time might be uncomfortable, get in the way and cause just as much pain as not wearing any at all. d) Pride: Their feet being sensitive is mostly a secret to those who aren't Goblins, and they don't want to appear "weak" by protecting them.

@Swags21 According to the book version, shoes aren't the fashion. She only wears them for distinction. She has 6 toes on each foot and doesn't like such a sight. So she wears them to be protected not from pain, but from being seen.
