The Secret Teachings of Gemcutting is a collection of classic gemstone designs spanning 500 years. 50 gemstone designs are presented with full color photos, design information, cutting advice, and historical background. This collection consists of the time tested, industry-standard gemstone designs that can been found in the jewelry from high-end brands as well as independent bespoke jewelry designers. Each design is presented in two different height options so that they are compatible with both lower RI stones and higher RI stones.
Aside from the designs, the book includes 30 pages of essential gemology for cutters which contains invaluable information about gemstone design, optics, crystal systems, hand preforming, gemstone physics, modifying diagrams, pairing rough gems with appropriate designs, and more. This information is critical for cutters who want to understand how these elements influence the appearance of the final stone.

the reason due to which I will not buy this book is that, some of the designs which Which I saw in the video having angles like 34.5, or 40.78 etc. I use hand piece faceting machine in which we can't put the numbers after point. so, I always face design errors while trying to make new cut....

All the designs in the final book use only whole or half numbers. I had handpiece cutters in mind when I made it.

You have explained it really well. Do you have videos on how to facet diamonds and other gemstones like moissanite, rubies etc

@@Saywhatohno Moissoinite cuts like most other stones so, no I don’t have a special class for it. As for diamond, that’s a completely different world. Different machines, different techniques, different knowledge base and ultimately it’s a different job. I don’t know how to cut diamonds so I can’t teach it. Good question !

A lil expensive for a spiral bound book, but to me it's worth the investment. I'm buying a copy along with Amatuer Gemstone Faceting Volume 1 and an 8" All-U-Need Lap for my dad who has become quite a rock hound this past year and change. My baby bro is going to buy him some roughage so he'll have everything he needs. He bought himself a tumbler a few months back, but he wants a cab king. It's unfortunate that it's kind of only worth it for the biggest one and that's almost 2k... I never realised so many tools were needed to make a gem into what you want until I started doing research with him. You want a cutter, and flat lap, a cab machine, and a tumbler in the least. It's around 5k altogether to get into finishing gems at a mid level not mentioning reading and raw materials. Thank the gods for KZbin university.

Yeah it’s a lot of gear. I don’t have anything to make cabs or slabs because it’s expensive and also hard to get the good tools when you are in Asia.

@Justin K Prim that only makes it so much more impressive. I honestly really admire that. With less tools you're as proficient as jewelers out here relying on labs to do everything.
