West-Flemish was surprisingly easy to understand, for me as a Dutch native. I thought West-Flamish was notoriously difficult to understand. Maybe there are stronger varierties.

Yeah. This one sounds quite ok. Normally the coastal versions are the hardest, and the very hardest ones are in French Flanders where they speak the dialect from hundreds of years ago. West Flemish is actually the result of Saxons coming into contact with the Franks. East Flemish are the Saxons who adopted Frankish. Everything north and eastwards was and is Frankish.

@@Вадим-н8зJa, Zürideutsch ist eher ein kratzig mit dem K in der kehle. In meiner Region in the Ostschweiz wird das k und ch nicht so krass in der Kehle gesprochen. Gibt auch da wesentliche unterschiede von Region zu Region.

Hellooooooooo???????? Züritüütsch is only one of many, many many different dialects spoken all within the range of "Swiss German". !!! First Swiss person here who complains!! I win! :D

ooooooo what are the other ones :0

@@dankmemewannabe there are so many. usually they are called according to the canton where they are spoken such as Baseldytsch, Bärndüütsch, Soledurnerdütsch, Aargauerdütsch, Bündnerdütsch, Thurgauerdütsch, Sanggalerdütsch, Lozärnerisch, Ob- and Nidwaldnerisch, Urner Dialäkt , Appezöller Dialekt etc. But then these broader regional variations can again be separated into the dialects of smaller regions within them such as Oberaargauer or Oberbaselbieter Dialekt or Seislerdüütsch (in the canton of Fribourg). Specially in rural and mountaineous areas each valley or village can have their own typical dialect features for example the "Leetschi" dialect in Lötschental or Rhintaler Dialäkt etc. A lot of this has been lost over time with mobility increasing but a lot is still around. Back in the day there used to be even sociolects spoken only by the population of a part of a city (usually the "lower" classes) such as Mattenenglisch in Bern or Bolze in Fribourg. That is why we react irritated when "Züritütsch" is equalled with "Swiss German" ;)
