Armenian (հայերեն (reformed), հայերէն (classical), hayeren, pronounced [hɑjɛˈɾɛn]) is an Indo-European language and the sole member of an independent branch of that language family. It is the native language of the Armenian people and the official language of Armenia and the unrecognized Republic of Artsakh. Historically spoken in the Armenian highlands, today Armenian is widely spoken throughout the Armenian diaspora. Armenian is written in its own writing system, the Armenian alphabet, introduced in 405 AD by the canonized saint Mesrop Mashtots. The estimated number of Armenian speakers worldwide is between five and seven million.
If you are interested to see your native language/dialect be featured here.
Submit your recordings to otipeps24@gmail.com.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

In Armenia we never said a prayer in modern Armenian and not only the prayer but the whole liturgy in our churches is being spent in classic Armenian (grabar) only when the pastor speaks to the believers he speaks modern

In Armenia we actually say the prayer in classical Armenian instead of Eastern dialect!

Yeah I just figured that out too, I’m pretty sure that all of us (both Armenians and Spurki Hayer) say it in Classical Armenian

Sanskrit and Armenian aren't directly related. However, Armenian is considered to be a part of larger theoretical "Greco-Armeno-Aryan" group of languages, so it's closest languages are the Hellenic and Indo-Aryan languages. That's why some Armenian numbers are mostly comparable to the numbers in Greek and Indi-Aryan languages.

How understandable is one dialect from another? At first glance they look somewhat different but the amount of cognates I see makes me think that they can all understand each other but each dialect just standardized the read text differently, just like how the English accent comparisons often have different text but are perfectly understandable to all speakers.

In classical armenian the "gh" was pronounced as a dark "l" (e.g. "Paulos -> Polos -> Poghos" or "Metal" -> "Metagh")

They actually have, but they have changed so much that became unrecognizable. However, some of them remain comparable to some other Indo-European languages, for example 1 (Armenian - mek, Persian - ek), or 9 (Armenian - innə and Greek - ennea).
