This answered my question as to whether I want a bridge (new model) or without a bridge (old model). I think for buyers, these shouldn’t be seen as “new” as “better” but simply if you want a bridge or not. Personally, I like the vibrancy, sustain and richness the bridge-less lyre has, but the bridge lyre fares better with individual notes. It stands out more in the mix whereas the bridge-less the notes tend to blend together for that ethereal/cathedral sound. The bridge-less’ higher notes have that twinkling echo effect that’s just lost on the bridge model. Though, on the bridge model, you can hear the basser notes way more clearly. To each their own! If someone wants a sound that has less echo for you to add your own effects, go with the bridge. If you’re someone who likes the echo and won’t be doing any heavy post-processing, go with the bridge-less.

Your videos are excellent I've watched a few, just one thing there is no such instrument as a Lyre Harp, only Lyres or Harps. eBay and Amazon sellers when they advertise Lyres or Harps tend to add both words to the description to attract more hits, the same way some sellers list Ukelele Banjo Guitars Basses.

Both are beautiful instruments and both sound so dreamy ✨ The sound of the old one is deeper and "grounded" if that makes sense, and the new one is brighter and light, a "heavenly" sound. In my humble opinion, the new one is best for the bright tone, but I'm planning to buy both eventually because the price is so convenient for what you get... Maria, is it normal for a 16 string lyre to have uneven string height? I have the Aklot w/o the bridge and the strings vary quite a bit in height. I am considering a Walter.T and hoping it might not have this issue. Thank you in advance for any help. 🙂
@MariaCalfaDePaul Жыл бұрын
I actually don’t think it is supposed to be this way. It could be how it was strung but perhaps also because it is an inexpensive harp. I am sure a better oke might not have that problem. Good luck!

Funny that you should say that. I wondered the same thing. I can't see why it shouldn't work but perhaps you should call a place like harp kit.com or music makers. They are very helpful and actually sell harp and lyre strings. If you do. Please let me know. I might consider that myself.

Hi! I am a beginner lyre harp self-learned! Im trying to look for an affordable but QUALITY sound one that's 22 strings or more. Whats your recommendation? Does it matter if its nylon or metal strings??
@MariaCalfaDePaul Жыл бұрын
Well nylon are usually easier on the hands and they are color coded so that you know where the C and the F’s are making it easier to navigate if you are reading music. Good luck
@SoftKitteh9 ай бұрын
I have one of these (the solid one on the left) and I've put nylon strings on it. It sounds delightful and a lot more traditional because, back in the day, they didn't have metal strings! They usually used animal gut, so nylon is the next best thing and gives you that softer sound that you get from old/traditional lyres without murdering animals! YMMV as to which you prefer. I've seen some nylon/metal string comparisons on the Tube. You should watch videos like that to help you decide.
