Notice how the Argiooe aurantia spider uses each leg to measure out the threads. Also notice how she uses her third pair of legs to cut the scaffolding thread!

Why do people say stuff like, " kill it!", or "omg it's creepy as hell keep it away" there just spiders, it's like saying, " keep that adorable puppy away" pups bite and draw blood, spiders may be poisonous but if you leave them alone, they'll leave you alone. Then there are idiots in the world who kill things with out thinking about it, seriously spiders aren't bad! At least when you walk out the door a swarm of flies or mosquitos aren't trying to tear your face off

Amazing to watch isn't it. I mean really SEE how they do it. I have absolutely no problem with spiders. They kill flies and bugs, and that would alone put them in my cool book. I never kill them if I see one in my room. I just catch it and put it outside or something. It's only how they look that stops you from loving 'em.

The species was first described by Hippolyte Lucas in 1833. It is common to the contiguous United States, Hawaii, southern Canada, Mexico, and Central America. It has distinctive yellow and black markings on the abdomen and a mostly white cephalothorax. Its scientific Latin name translates to "gilded silver-face" (the genus name Argiope meaning "silver-face", while the specific epithet aurantia means "gilded"). The body length of males range from 5-9 mm (0.20-0.35 in); females range from 19-28 mm (0.75-1.10 in). These spiders may bite if disturbed or harassed, but the venom is harmless to non-allergic humans, roughly equivalent to a bumblebee sting in intensity.

I have a similar large female banana spider in my veggie garden tent. She made an egg sack like a week ago. I keep feeding her stink bugs and I like watching her. I named her Charlotte :) I used to hate spiders and now I find them fascinating. Today I gave her 6 stink bugs and I tried to show her where the last one was by touching the web with a little stick. She started rocking her web back and forth... I have never seen her do that before. Was she trying to scare me away?
@IloveSPIDERZ
@IloveSPIDERZ 10 жыл бұрын
Yes she was. That is one of the several defenses they do. They bob up and down, run to the edge of the web and hides under a leaf, and/or they would simply drop out of the webs. I personally think they've adapted to bob up and down to make it harder for wasps to hunt them... The same reason a lot of the A. Aurantias will make a barrier web. I find them very fascinating to watch! I'm going to soon post a compilation of all of these spiders aiming their abdomens to the sun on hot days! Thank you for watching my videos!
@AnusiaLA
@AnusiaLA 10 жыл бұрын

@IloveSPIDERZ
@IloveSPIDERZ 10 жыл бұрын
No problem! Yeah, they probably won't do that. They can barely even see us, even more so because they are always facing down looking towards the ground. Sometimes they can sense your presence just because of the change of wind currents. I've spotted a couple up where I live (Albany, NY), and they are so skittish! I would find them like 10-20 feet away, and then they would just drop out of their webs. The ones down here in Virginia Beach don't usually do that, but they do bob up and down. I'm working on that video right now as we speak! :)

Alas it wont let me "thumbs Up" your comment :( In total agreement with you. Someone I know referred to their web making a "waste of time" - I couldn't help but mention that "If they didn't spin webs, as evolution would probably have it, they would then fly, no one wants a flying spider" >.< As an artist I find some species of spiders very beautiful, even though scary looking as long as it's not ON me - they are doing their part in the world - Natures little bug zappers lol.

It's just doing what it knows to do which is help the environment get rid of some true pests like flies and mosquitoes etc. Cant u just watch her and appreciate her for the amazing feat she's doing?? If u cannot there is something wrong in your head.
