This is the best video of how to build a deck and ramp. I am new to the concept of building anything! So your video took a massive amount of fear out my mind. And gave me perfect information on step by step how to do this. Thank you. God bless you Lady South Carolina 🙏

Great common sense approach to building a combination deck/ramp. What most intrigued me was your ability to use your circular saw as a jigsaw when making inside-corner cuts on the joists. No matter how deep I set my saw to cut, I still need a jigsaw to complete my inside cuts. Thanks for the video.

Well done. With something so well constructed, it's liberating for the homeowners, yes, but everyone who sees the construction is educated...this is how its done, this is perfection. Glad to see you use an inner handrail, Code requirement where I am. It's smart, have it as a guide, and might need it to arise from the chair, need it for stability. Vevor online has quality handrails. Think about adding dollar store solar spikes. Using inexpensive means you can judge effectiveness before making more expensive purchase, solar, or string lights. Thanks for showing so much detail. This is a great idea for anyone wanting to start a new business.

Only thing I would have done different to this economical ramp. 1 add bridging between joists to keep from twisting. 2 add ledger at step with joist hangers.. 3 lower end at driveway. 4 use wood sealer on below grade cuts. 5 use galvanized 16 nails on joists for shear factor. 6 use the 3 4 5 right triangle to show square.This video is very helpful and in Alabama will serve this family for many years.

Good instructional video. Very helpful. I have a ramp desperately in need of repair. I think 2x material for ramp treads would last longer than those thin decking boards. That's what I am doing. My decking boards are rotten and breaking apart. I can't even take the power wheelchair up the ramp any more.

first time I saw where they set the post in concrete last instead of first. it makes it where you still can't use the ramp or deck for another whole day or else any movement will loosen up the concrete support which will make the structure always be loose

@mrairsofter365 Well, if he placed the 4x4s 8' apart that's 16', and the drop was 30", so that comes out to closer to a 1:24 slope unless I completely missed something...
@joelkeen3349
@joelkeen3349 4 жыл бұрын
if you're shooting for a 1:12 slope, the math is simple: the number of inches of drop equals the number of feet in length. If the number of feet is closer to half of the drop (as in this case), the slope is 1:6.

On the runners, You should have figured below the driveway concrete slab instead of flush. Then, you wouldn’t have had to cut the 45 degree angle on the first board. It would have been flush already.

wow posts only in ground a little bit and putting a concrete block at bottom of hole. wow is that ok on the codes. i would think 48 inchs down then drop a little concrete down in there then put post in and pour more concrete. and i would use carriage bolts not lag bolts. really deck board as the top hand rail. yuck always use 2 by 4 or 6 . that will warp and crack up fast. instead of the wedges under joist just lay a 2x4 or 2x6 against side of joist to concrete and screw in it runs the whole length of the run that was chamfered.

You should never let wood rest on cement or surround it. You should also tell people that the FOOTINGs need to be dug past the frost line in cold states. They make a metal galvanized bracket the goes between the post end and the top of the cement. No wood is made for below grade,just ground contact. Cement acts as a sponge and water will rot the wood. PT wood is #2 pine with a bug deterrent applied with pressure so it is embedded into the wood. Lastly by code you need cross brace's .

Maida Dutcher ....I have had other 2x6 treated wood bend badly when I took it off the structure to paint it. So bad I couldn’t even use it anymore. Between the heat and humidity and rain the wood went way out of whack when it wasn’t screwed down. I equally buy wood from Home Depot and Lowe’s.

Doesn't meet the 2010 ADA Ramp Guidelines, and your footers would have never passed inspection, I'm pretty sure this wasn't inspected.
@ronwilliams329
@ronwilliams329 9 жыл бұрын
Kenia Rivera That ramp also exceeds the 1:12 ratio and would not pass inspection in just about every single town. However, I don't know where the location is and if a permit was even required. Over in west Texas you can build a $500,000 house and then someone can build a $15,000 shack next door due to the lack of zoning and building codes way out in the county. Pretty sure this was the case because the builder of the ramp hung himself out to dry for the local building inspector. In my mother's area in NC you have to get a permit for the ramp and upon completion have it inspected. There have been people that have gotten the permit to build a ramp and subsequent to the inspection had to make major modifications because they were unaware of the ADA requirement.

I was hoping for better quality video, guy acts like we are gonna catch his own brain tools how he measures and then doesn't even have right measurement he has to do shims. I'm sure there could have been a much easier way and cheaper. I build skateboard ramps on the side. deck should be flush with driveway, meaning stud frame shouldn't be flush with driveway but width of decking material lower than driveway so theres no bump if wheelchairs are main use. blocks can be uneven 4 level use concrete
