WOW!!! My mouth just hung open watching this incredible video, I can only dream of what it must be like to own and work on a beautifully done piece of engineered equipment. Wow! Looks like a Lot of fun. I rode the real daylight special from El Paso to Tucson in the 80's. Loved it..never got around to anything like it again.

The bobbing headlamp, it seems like a safety feature but I’ve never heard it discussed before on locomotives. That’s a neat detail and awesome if based on prototypical specs!

It's called a Mars light. They were fitted to locomotives as a safety device to warn motorists so they wouldn't gey confused and think the oncoming train wasn't just another car or a big truck and get run into at grade crossings. The wobbling action of the Mars light makes a distinctive flashing when seen from the trackside. Nowadays locomotives have flashing ditch lights to fufill the same function , but the full size #4449 still retains its Mars light, so for this model to have a working miniature one is faithful to the prototype and an impressive bit of engineering.
