Towns and a village on the West Greenland coast, set amongst glaciers, massive icebergs in Disco Bay and glaciated mountains along the coast south. Sisimiut used to be Greenland's northernmost ice-free port, but with climate change Ilulisaat is set to take over. Few people under the age of 40 in Ilulisaat have been able to travel on on the sea ice of Disco Bay.
Ilulisaat is world famous for its 50km long ice fjord. Sermeq Kujalleq is the most productive glacier in the northern hemisphere. Giant icebergs are grounded at the fjord mouth and hold back 50km of ice.
Sisimiut is lagely ice free and Greenland's second biggest town. Itilleq is a tiny village on a small island 60km south of Sisimiut, but served by a weekly boat service. Remote indeed.
