Mel introduces the Muhammad of the 7th century, commonly known as Ilyas ibn Qabisa, yet, whose name 'Ilyas' is the equivalent to that of the Biblical 'Elijah'.
He traces this Muhammad using a number of Christian and Jewish sources from the 7th century, but suggests that this 'Ilyas' had to be discarded by the later Abbasids and replaced with their 8th-9th century Muhammad because the earlier Muhammad not only had an official name which in Arabic meant "My God is Yahweh", the God of the Jews and Christians, but because he didn't have the same character as their later prophet.
Watch as Mel unpacks yet another aspect of this 7th century Muhammad, better known as Ilyas ibn Qabisa.
