Hey friends! Today we're going to be discussing the real issue with these new Instagram hair stylist and nail techs. I'm tired of constantly seeing rant videos or hair stylist horror stories because we as customers are not receiving the care we deserve. After countless years of putting up with their outrageous policies, bully behavior, unprofessionalism, overpriced services, crazy non refundable deposit rules, long booking sites and weird fees I have finally found a stylist I love that is not even on instagram. Let's support more stylist who are old school, grow natural hair and value our service. I can only imagine the loss their businesses have taken over the pandemic AND without social media. If anything they deserve the price we pay to these new girlies who dont even have a license. What do you think? Let me know your thoughts on todays video!❤️
@tieany12 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. I have countless hair horror stories. For that reason I have officially decided to loc my hair. I have too much hair to deal with as a loose natural and these prices are ridiculous

I have had "stylist" who left to pick up their child from soccer practice in the middle of flatironing my hair😮
@84tahlia2 жыл бұрын
Lol same day appointment $50 extra. They tell you no extra guests and will have their children, partner or friend there during your appointment. Will tell you not to be late but will arrive after you and still need to set up. They don’t take down hair. You’re hair needs to be washed before you come and blowed dried with no product. Your hair needs to be at least 4 inches. All with attitude for days! I been saying this for years!

Yes! Just dumb! Get it together people! This is why I rarely go anymore.

I always wonder why they say with no product. Like if I was to come to you, but no product in my hair, my hair would be so brittle and dry.

The main problem I have with these new stylists is that a lot of them aren't licensed but are charging ridiculous amounts of money. I think that's the reason why they also have a lot of rules about our hair because they don't know how to do different types of hair.
@AnonyMous-lh3cm3 ай бұрын
Some of them have those rules because it’s the only way they can somewhat legally provide the service without a license in the area. Some areas are VERY strict. Fine you for so much as washing hair with anything other than water cos shampoo and conditioner are technically chemicals kind of strict. If a stylist says “must come washed, detangled and blow dried” I automatically assume they have no license and can’t do your actual hair for anything other than a braid down cos that doesn’t require a license and since a wig doesn’t grow out of your head it’s not a violation.

Male barbers are getting just as bad with all the talking, smoke breaks, running to the store, drinking on the job etc. It's insane. Once I learn how to retwist my own locs, it's a wrap. Already learned how to cut my own hair cause I get tired of all this bull-💩
@RAJOHN-ke7mc10 ай бұрын
You are correct. When I had a cute cut, I booked a popular Barber ( at the suggestion of another barber). I'm glad I went with first instinct and canceled within the acceptable time. He was a whole mess when I tried to cancel. He cuts the hair of a few celebrities, and that went to his head. I couldn't be bothered. I grew my hair back after that

Truth!: The level of unprofessionalism is at an all-time high and it seems like everybody is ripping off the customer. I understand your frustration but it seems like now we're going to have to do just as good a job researching beauticians and nail texts as we do going to a good restaurant etc.

I remember I was 9 months pregnant big as a house the day of my baby shower, the girl elevator was so slow barely worked (mind u she was on a high floor I think like 10 so taking the steps was out of the question) and I had trouble finding her apt, no directions either whatsoever.. she still charged me 20$ for being 5 mins late but bc I needed my makeup done I just paid it. But once I got in the house it was messy as hell, smelled funny, and so loud from kids running around. And her room was also messy, and she was so stank towards me no personality at all. My makeup was cute but for the customer service it was a 1/10. I honestly don’t know how some of these girls have loyal clientele cus they’re just so unprofessional

I agree! I was supposed to get my hair braided by this girl on IG. Had to do a deposit of course and this was two days before my trip to Cyprus. I saw a post that one of her friends wrote that she was in a mental health crisis and had to cancel all her upcoming appts. I was pissed! I always have issues with so called hairstylist and when we give then a chance they flake out, are late and are super unprofessional. Im sick of it. Then they have these stupid rules and regulations on having it washed or detangled or they will charge you. What?!? Luckily another girl at a salon in town was able to take me in and do my braids. Its was so stressful bc I was not trying to do my natural hair on vacation. We got to do better!

Guess my stylist surprising me with increase costs are not as bad as what I am reading 😊 But it's bugging me if I'm here. She does a pretty good job, my hair is medium length and I always take my own products as well as my granny and aunt. (2 referrals=$200 more/per for her mind you.) First price I got was $40 Then $60, since my hair is SOOO long (not really) My trim was $10 Today it's $25 like c'mon, I get she needs to make money, but I need to keep some of the money I make. Going forward, I will go to her once per month and no more trims! I will get my mum to do it, she does a great trim but she's far but I would rather go and get to see my sweetie mama, over my scheming beautician. I cannot refer anyone else either, she is not consistent with pricing.
@LoveAndSnapple Жыл бұрын
The old school stylists used to be able to go on vacation once a year and they would save up to go to like Disney world with their family. If she was able to go on more vacations it was because her man was taking her places. These new people wanna go on girls trips eating surf and turf every three months. Ladies, don’t ever be sad that you can’t go to Dubai and ride camels like the social media girlies. We know what the economy looks like and unless you know for sure that the girls in the pictures and videos are legitimate business owners or postgraduates they’re most likely scammers.

outside of Los Angeles, this is dominant in Socal - inland empire area. Although there's a lack of black hairstylists in general, some of the ones that claim stylist are following this process that you're bringing to light.

As a business owner (not a stylist or in the beauty industry), I totally understand the late policy. If you’re late, then my next appointment will start late…which isn’t fair to the client that is on time. Things do happen, but if you allow everyone to come late, that can become very disorganized. Just my opinion. I think the excessive fees are another story….given the lack of actual salon level service.
@cfoster68049 ай бұрын
Point is the stylists need to abide by the late policy too and many don't. I have been to 5 different stylists in the last 2 years with 2 of them being multiple visits and out of the 5 only 1 was ready to go when I arrived exactly on time. The rest had me waiting up to 30 minutes after my appointment time and I always show up early to my hair appointments. Many times I was their first appointment of the day!
@JKL_049 ай бұрын
@@cfoster6804 same here. I haven’t had good experiences with stylists in recent years and this is over many states. My field is totally different from theirs. I show up early for clients and make sure I’m on time when I am the client. The service industry in general has gone way down.

Once I saw the gworls pushing people to wigs (contacted 5 "stylists" who listed sewins as services, but kept saying wig install...nope) I was done. I'm in a VERY big metro area and was shocked at the atrocious attitudes and pricing. The only time I went to a stylist for a wig was because she was doing other services after I cut my dreads off (washing, trimming my ends, etc), then she started doing traditional sew ins on me once my hair was long enough. These ladies are not building a legacy and I want to support our folks, but they are robbing us. So sad. to add: the DMs last at night? I work at night and will get done what I can as I try to be up most of the night even on my days off. Calling me during the day is beyond inconvenient and disturbing me. just set your phone to DND and only have certain numbers go through, like all phones do that now. Ive seen that from several people and immediate blocked em. Not dealing with your foolishness.

You for getting taxes, licensing, insurance, and so on. If someone is running their business properly, really only keep 33-40%. But I get what you’re saying. I won’t deal with all those fees
@KimeraYvonne2 жыл бұрын
No I didnt forget. I run multiple businesses as well. And you’re right most businesses wont keep more than 40%. I dont focus on gross revenue because thats not what I take home after taxes, paying employees, fees and other investments. thats how business works it comes with the territory but I wont overcharge my customers it’s not their fault I got taxes😂😩

I would check out Royal T Hair Lounge if you're from the DMV. It's a cute little salon that specializes in natural hair. It's a bit pricey, but you really do get what you pay for. Terri is really sweet and very professional. She would never do anything that is not healthy for your hair and scalp. And yes; she does wash and blow dry hair! The best part is that she teaches you how to care for your own hair in between visits.

I don’t agree with all the clients trying to text me at once trying to touch base while I’m working on other people going as fast as I can to get them out. If I spent hours and hundreds of dollars on coming up with a website and a policy why can’t that be your resource?
@Rose_Bride Жыл бұрын
Because not everyone is tech savvy, and people have different levels of understanding. If I have a question about something or need clarification, it shouldn't be a problem for you as a professional to answer my question. No one is saying that you need to stop what you're doing to answer me _right at that specific moment,_ but SURELY you aren't doing hair 24/7 EVERY MOMENT of the day. If you can charge me a deposit or the various other fees I end up having to pay, why can't you take 3-5 minutes to answer a question? Considering this is something you are getting paid for, it shouldn't be a problem. I have worked in customer service for over 20 years, and one thing you learn is to EXPECT QUESTIONS. Even if there is an FYI on the website, not everyone is going to read it. That's just reality. And yeah, it can be annoying, but that's LIFE. And even those who DO take the time to read the FYI might not understand something about it and may STILL have questions. These people should 100% be able to reach out for any questions they have, considering that they are PAYING you for a service. If you are working in the service industry DIRECTLY with clients/customers like this, then this is ABSOLUTELY something that you need to EXPECT. If it's a problem for you, then you either need to invest in hiring someone to take care of the questions so you won't have to deal with them, or maybe look into a field or career where you aren't having to deal directly with people.
@cfoster68049 ай бұрын
Because y'all put up these super basic websites with as little information as possible, and when you get a bunch of people asking the same question you just catch an attitude instead of updating your website to address the question.
