Hi Jason Long time no speak! Before I got the Canon R5 I had a Canon EOS 5Ds and in hind sight I wish Id never sold it. The colours from that camera are some of the best Canon have ever done and as you say it's a tank of a camera able to handle our weather extremes easily. If it has a weakness it's in low light where you can get some noise in the shadows but with recent improvements in AI noise reduction they should be controllable. One thing for certain you will not be disappointed with its results. Be lucky Jeff

I’m 71…started as a newspaper photog in the 70’s with b&w film. I now use a Nikon D850 for landscapes and Lumix GH5 and G9II for video. My advice to young photographers is quit watching KZbin videos about taking photos and go out and shoot photos. Shoot photos about things that matter to you and others. I looked through my lightroom photos last month and deleted 4,000+ photos. I don’t suppose my children will care about the photo of the guy on a unicycle in the park - no matter how nice the fall vegetation looked.

Little 200d user here which came with twin kit lenses, i mostly take milky way nightscapes with a Tokina 14-20mm and have found it to be easily good enough for what I do. But i do need and hope to swap out the 2 kit lenses for an 18-135mm and a 150-600mm, which will then suit every type of images I like to take.

As they say ( don't fix what's not broken) if it brakes I may consider the 5D 🤔. I'm just a hobbyist not a pro. I've had some beautiful images inspired by yourself however, 2024 was spent doing aircraft photography so haven't done any landscapes....maybe I should...😊 Sorry to hear about your nephew but I'm sure he'll approve of his memorial spot🙏. Love your images and the music went well with them, made me want to go back to Dinorwig quarry. Look forward to your next video 😉

Nearly 3 years ago I upgraded from the 7D mk1, to an R6 mk1. As a birder I was waiting for the R7, but, after waiting for years eventually gave up Canon ever releasing one. First impressions, I was disappointed, after a 10 year wait, and going from crop to full frame, I was expecting a real jump in IQ. Remember, the R6 was using the same sensor as the 1Dx3, the flagship model. The other things I upgraded for, high ISO capabilities, animal eye AF, IBIS made a huge difference, but base ISO IQ just wasn’t the boost I was expecting. Years ago, on forums the 7D mk1 v 5D2 arguments were rife, with people who had gone FF and were telling the rest of us crop shooters the difference was profound. When asked to do a comparison the excuses would start. No one ever backed up their “night and day” claims with a side by side image test. I bought the Fuji crop cameras, firstly the X-Pro1, then the X-T1. 5D owners scoffed at the IQ/ISO from those cameras, then Fuji released the X-T2 with its serious AF. That was the body that had 5D3 owners selling up and going full Fuji.

I don't care what people say. I think there is something in megapixels with landscape photography. A lot of the newer cameras on the market. These days are 24 megapixels and I'll say this again not a fan of 24 megapixel cameras in fact I went the other way and just went stupid and bought a medium format GFX camera and oh my gosh I lo. I love that it's just unlimited. I'm now I'm not limited by my gear. There is virtually no limit with what I do with my gear now. I did the same thing with my father and it's a great acknowledgement. Take your time recovering Jason love your channel.

You have just clearly stated the reason for your obsession, The Mega Pixels. Twenty years ago people produced stunning landscape photography using 8 or 10 MP cameras. Has the landscape changed in a way that it now needs a 100MP sensor??? What about next year when Mr Sony and Mr Nikon bring out their reputed 160MP cameras??? Mega Pixels do not matter, and do not make for better photographs, much like buying a £8000 Leica M boidy and a £6000 Leica M Apo something lens do not turn a person into a photographer.
@nevvanclarke922518 күн бұрын
@@lensman5762 and with all due respect many of those photos don't look great. We get this obsession that those photos with 10 megapixels were great. They were great for them but they're not great by today. Standard you my opinion and they're not great when you blow them up either if you stood in front of one of my prints which is a 1.4 m x 600 mm print you would see what I mean but I'm not gonna get into an argument with you about that. Have a good Day.

@@jasonjonesphotography610 yeah it is and my apologies if I offended you. It wasn't my intention. I think there is so much great gear available to get out and shoot with. I actually teach photography in my local community and I often source cameras for my students and I go on the hunt for DS or early-stage mirrors cameras for budget. They're virtually is not a bad camera these days interestingly enough the GFX kind of operates a little bit like a DSLR it is very slow and it's methodical so it feels like I'm shooting with a DSLR even though it has the advantage of mirrorless and that's what I like about!

I know of many photographers who are now using ' old tech ' cameras in preference to the new computer imaging boxes. IMHO, some have done it out of the genuine desire to take some control back and produce less than ' perefct ' photographs for reasons that we all know. The others, well for the same reason that all of a sudden they became Leica M photographers!!!! If this move makes you a happier and therefore a better photographer then all the better. Keep well.

@@torsten1163 I have had Leica cameras for longer than I can remember including IIIc, M2, M3, M6 and M240. I have also owned Hasselblads and Pentax 67 since the early 1980s. There is no doubt that Leica is capable of producing very high quality results, there was a time when they had no competition with the exception of perhaps Zeiss/Contax. These days it is no longer true. Even the Chinese are now producing quite good M lenses at a fraction of the cost. Not that I promote Chinese lenses, quite the opposite in fact for various reasons, but the asking prices for the Leica cameras and Lenses are no longer justified by any stretch of the imagination, nor the use of these cameras by all the usual suspects on Y.T and elsewhere has anything remotely to do with producing photography of any merit nor the kind of photgraphy that requires a £20000.00 Leica M outfit. It is now more of a badge of honour, or belonging to a once very exclusive and highly artistic circle. As for digital imaging devices of today, the more I read and hear about them, the more I am glad that I still work with the likes of Nikon D810 and Canon 5D MKII and MKIII. The situation of the sponsorship of these highend cameras has become so ridiculous that I have seen the samples that were given away free by Hsselblad to some Y.T photographers being used for ' street ' photography. You couldn't make it up if you tried. For me the more basic the camera the better.
