The depression got very bad to the point i was just skipping school. But unfortunately i am unable to do online school due to my parents nor would the ever let me drop out and move on with life. Ally Smith look into alternative high schools in your area. It took. E a year and a half of failing class, missing school and begging my parents to convince them to let me go to a small charter school near me. It honestly saved my life. See if there are any tech schools or charter schools

I live in a community with approximately 200 people and the school has about 250 pre-k through 12, so there isnt a smaller school around. It also doesnt help that my mom works at the school or that i have other siblings going there too.

Maybe you can work with a school counselor or a therapist to try and convince your parents that online school would help you thrive. It took a therapist telling my Mom that the only way I could be happy was to change schools to make her even consider it. Good luck

I grew up in Utah too, I hated high school with a passion but everyone told me to go to college, there was always pressure from everybody to go, I finnally took the ged when I was 16 and bought a ticket to Alaska, I commercial fish for cod, salmon and halibut on a dragger boat year round, and am writing this on a boat right now. I'm only 20 but now make more money than my parents, teachers, friends ever did, everyone back home still wants me to go to school and it makes me laugh because what would I need an education for now, experience will always be 100x more useful than a piece of paper. You are making the right choice, and will be thankful you didn't spend all that money on an education. I don't know you but you're going place, it's only up from here

I literally feel for you 100%. I have recently gotten so heavily into traveling for cliff jumping, snowboarding, and other extreme things. I think you have the same kind of view on life that I do which is, if we only get to be on this earth for x amount of years, why not try to see all the unreal destinations. Watching this video literally summarized what I try to tell my family and friends all the time. i’m only 3 minutes in and i 100% agree. when i was decided on doing online and my mom was upset about me miss out on social events and i wasn’t at all. doing online has been great, i get to graduate a whole year early (at only 16). i also got a job so i can save for college. sometimes i do miss seeing my friends everyday but it’s the best i’ve ever been. i didn’t just choose online because i didn’t like it, i also have health issues that have impacted my life deeply. i’m doing better health wise.

I am so jealous. I am an 8th grader and I have really bad mental health issues. I know I sound like everybody else when I say I hate school, but I have good reasoning. 1: mental health I have a lot of mental health problems and it got better over the summer. I was happy and I really enjoyed life. Now that I’m going to school every day and I have so much anxiety, it’s getting worse. 2: future plans I plan on getting a media job in New York as well and I’m also not going to college so it honestly means nothing to me. The best part of my school is my extracurriculars, but I would give them up to drop out. 3: I’m not the type for school I am not made to sit in a classroom, learn, and take tests because I’m just not wired like that. 4: physical health Because I spend 70 hours a week on school, I literally eat close to nothing every day because I don’t have the time or energy to eat, which sucks. I relate to you so much as because we both have similar goals and passions and we both want to move out and do media and not do the school situation.

School was a very destroying environment for me & while I was grateful to have the ability to go and receive an education, I was absolutely miserable in high school. My “friends” dropped like flies, the teachers were not the greatest & my piers were such delinquents in all honesty. In my last semester, I did something similar to you & did online classes as well as an internship program that my school provided. For this, I had school once a week for half a day & I barely showed up for that if that tells you anything. I am now in college, and while it is not my absolute favorite thing, it is much better than high school and something I do need for my future career. Having an extremely similar situation as you. I’m a junior in high school right now and I seriously don’t understand how high school is supposed to be the best “4 years of my life”. I guess it goes along with actively being involved in school and having so many friends and living it up but I haven’t experienced any of that. My friends too have dropped like flies and I haven’t met anybody who I can click with at all. It really hurts me mentally because everybody has a group of friends to talk to and hang with on weekends but I’m over here feeling empty every. single. day. I thankfully have my boyfriend who is extremely supportive. I can’t find myself to commit to being involved in school when I find that going to school makes me feel so numb. I surprisingly do really well in school, but I really just want to live up to my parents expectations. I want to do well in my education so that in the future I can provide for my family and maybe even start my own family. But high school just sucks. I love the actual idea OF learning and I am extremely grateful of the education I’m receiving. The other half of high school I just can’t get by, the social interactions and people at my school. I hope I’ll have a better time in college. You give me a lot of hope that I can do this. I say this now as I’m skipping school and am in my bed haha

Tanya Bernardino I go to a community college which is much different than a 4 year university. I chose this option because it was a million times cheaper and I didn’t think I really wanted the “college experience”. This could be partly because I did go to college parties and such when I was in high school so I had the experience (which wasn’t allll that). I am able to do everyday things that I wouldn’t be able to do if I were stuck in a dorm. Go to work, be with my boyfriend, spend insane amounts of money, etc. I have a great boyfriend too, and sadly a lot of friends I had cut me off from petty drama. Many of them blamed me having a boyfriend to be the issue (and don’t ever let people tell you that is a reason!) I found that a lot of my friends and I had issues in other aspects of our friendships & because I have a boyfriend during our friendship, they believe that is why we have issues. I know that was side tracked a bit BUT because of that I decided to not take shit from anyone basically. I finished my high school education & had the same mindset going into college, and it has done well for me thus far. In the darker times of my high school career, the only thing I could do was plan and find ways to motivate for my future. Because I this, I was working basically full time hours at a job that I love and it really distracted me from my school situation and helped me save money. saving money really motivated me to think of all the things I could do with the money I saved. Not many people at 18 can say they have $7000+ saved all on their own. If I had done every single thing my peers did, I wouldn’t have had the ability to work as much as I do. I did attend some homecomings, proms, etc. but in all honesty, the best part were the pictures. the actual thing is very boring & money consuming. I’m really not sure if this makes any sense at all, I apologize lol

Wow. That is absolutely incredible. You’re right, there definitely isn’t a lot of people your age that have done the shit you’ve done. I mean I’m almost 17 and look where I am. No no, it does, because that’s exactly why I lost friends too. I didn’t think that having a boyfriend would make my friends feel like I favored him over them, which definitely wasn’t the case. I value my friends so much and all because I wasn’t there 100% of the time to hang, and for me not to be able to be independent from them, caused petty drama for us as well. I actually also want to go to community for just the first two years of my college career to get my general education done, then maybe transfer into a uni. I have no idea what I want to do with my life so I think getting my general education done first will help me see what I truly wanna do. It saves a hell of an amount of money too that I don’t want to put against my parents. Definitely getting a job too. Thank you, for giving me that advice. I’ve always blamed myself for losing my friends and I’m just now starting to learn how to let go and stop giving a shit about what people think about me.

I’ve been having a similar problem this year. I’m a junior and I have a significant amount of credits I still need, but I have not attended school for a full week yet. Sure I like school sometimes, pep rally’s, games, dances... but the actual part of school where I have to wake up every morning is where I struggle. This past week I finally asked my parents if I could try online school, and if I didn’t like it I would just finish off my senior year at public school. But they don’t seem to be buying it. They think that I’m just being lazy. I have a lot of health issues that have come to light this past month and it’s a lot of stress, which is what started this. But yeah I’ve probably gone to school 10 days this month. It’s rough. I hope they let me switch to online school.

I’m so happy ur guidance counselor helps you... the ones at my school suck my best friend is struggling a lot and went to her for help and the guidance counselor swerved right around it and changed the subject and didn’t help her at all
