I think you hit the sweet spot on that finish! Doesn't look like a modern reproduction, but also doesn't look like a boat anchor. Well used and antique, but cleaned up. Great job. I hope you and your family had a merry christmas, and happy new year!

Looks good ! This mid/high polish reminds my of the 1777 Charleville which has the same finish on it. Great job for shure !

When that spring breaks, I think you could make a new one. Novak has a vid where he makes a very similar spring and it looks doable. Might take a few tries to get the size and angles down right but if you can't find one to buy, might be a cool project to try to make and heat treat yourself.

Hi there, just letting you know that I very carefully welded my brownbess mainspring(not a repo) and it works fine. I used a stick welder. Hope this helps. 👍
