You could say the same about Kai. He was a lot more cheerful, but once he got older, he became more serious, but Kai changed because of his troubled childhood. Kouji changed because he felt betrayed by Kai's sudden disappearance and gained a hate for Vanguard, although it wasn't entirely Kai's fault for becoming distant from Miwa and Kouji.

I’ll say that kai miwa had better character arcs kouji making an earlier appearance and made some small changes that I really liked like Aichi having more blaster blades to fit a deck(imo I liked the 1 copy more in the og but most ppl would like the full set) but besides that the overall story isn’t as good as the og series and honestly this series is more of a quick money grab for bushiroad and even they are following the manga I feel it could be fleshed out more in conclusion the og is better
