Interfaces aren't and shouldn't be static environments. Lamenting an old version of FL when every update they bring has provided significant improvement is just exposing a lack of willingness or a lack of ability to adapt and trust in their work. Bless the FL developers for surviving decades of idiots talking about panning law, phantom audio quality issues, or failing to understand gain, I love you all at FL so much. Also the V21 tease looks great...

So in conclusion, people don't know how mixing and mastering works... Not very suprising... FL studio is SUCH a great program, made by very skilled engineers both audio engineers and graphical designers, to make the program be able to be understood by virtually anyone with zero DAW knowledge. This has made a huge variety of people that don't even know how to read musical notes, to grab the program and start making music. And that is good because it allows more creativity to come from a bigger variety of people, but also it has exposed many people that have no knowledge of how to mix and master their audio properly. It is those people who will complain about a DAW's ability to do anything, not the professionals.

Yes and no. Yes as a lot just concentrate on the creative part so do not figure out that there is a plugin loaded or do not know about the bug in FL Studio 11 with +3db on each channel with the "wrong" panning law, and No, as it partly was caused by a bug, so... it sounds harder.. and if you are not as deep into the theory like some others, then you do not know why and how to get the same sound.

They talk about this superstition that many hip-hop producers are talking about. The point is, the feel of the distortion that occurs when a kick or 808 sound goes over 0db is different. A lot of hip hop producers (at a time they probably didn't even know gain staging) preferred these clipping sounds to fl studio so they couldn't get away with 11. I don't care much about this controversy today, as many people, including myself, know about gain staging.

We should be getting better audio manipulation in FL21. In terms of audio recording, it’s pretty easy now. You can change the track mode in the playlist to audio track with a dedicated mixer insert, select your input, arm it and record. You can disable the dialog box that shows up when you click record and instead right click on the record icon to choose what’s recorded. You can also do looped recording with multiple takes and each take cascades in a grouped dedicated audio track on the playlist.

Older versions of FL Studio are normally good for older or lower end computers. Like on a Core 2 Duo FL 20 runs sluggish, but FL Studio 10 runs like a charm even on something lower like a single core 32-Bit Athlon 3200+ computer. Like back when my laptop & desktop where separate. My desktop was a 6 Core Xeon workstation so it handled FL Studio 20 fine but for my little 11in Dell Inspirion with a dual core 1.6Ghz AMD APU, it handled FL 20 badly but ran FL Studio 10 perfectly!!! So I think it depends on the hardware of what version you should use. If your using a cheap laptop like a old used one or a brand new but budget one, FL Studio 10 is the way to go. But if you have a newer or more powerful computer, FL Studio 20 would be the way to go.

How do you know if it's a powerful laptop
@MCJosiah
@MCJosiah 2 жыл бұрын
@@juiceonthebeat Easy, look up the specs of the laptop & research them. Having a general knowledge of computers will help. In general weak laptops will either be new ones under $300 or used ones under about $150 to $200. Any computer built after 2005 can be used to make modern radio quality music, but not all can run FL Studio 20 well. That's what older versions of FL Studio are for. My current laptop which I bought brand new for $600 at Walmart runs FL Studio 20 perfectly, cause it has a powerful CPU & GPU(A Ryzen 5 4500U 6-Core/6-Thread @2.6Ghz with Radeon graphics), with enough RAM(8GB) to make it smooth. But my old laptop had a very weak CPU & GPU(Dual Core @ 1.6Ghz, much weaker Radeon graphics), & only 4GB of RAM. Because of that I had to use FL Studio 10 cause it ran fine while 20 ran horribly.

@@juiceonthebeat Another thing to note is that price range I gave is generally the minimum you need to run FL Studio 20 on laptops. If your laptop is brand new & more than $300 or used & more than about $150 you can generally run FL Studio 20 fine. If you laptop is under that price range then FL Studio 10 would be the best to go. Desktops it's a different story. You can get a desktop that would easily handle FL Studio 20 for around $75 to $100. Then desktops around $40 to $75 can get you running FL Studio 10 at least.

@@eisviech9984 Older versions of the Fruity Phaser and Flanger used to introduce a very low noise floor to deal with denormals in floating point operations. This has been replaced with newer methods to deal with them at some point, so there is no more noise and the the result is cleaner. The sound of the processing itself hasn't changed, the quality is just better and the noise is gone. You can still add noise yourself If you enjoy the sound, and the new vintage chorus has a noise generator if you're specifically aiming for a more vintage sounds. I found a thread from 2013 asking about the noise, so this change has likely been after that :)

I recently picked up fl about a year ago and this video makes me want to go back to try fl studio 11. Besides some minor bugs it seems like a more simplified learning experience when you don't know the entire history of the app or haven't seen every update video. Comfort/application of info is more important to me (starting out especially) than having every possible option to make use of. Also on top of that the UI does look really nice in the older versions. It's like the pixel art version of fl studio. That fl version 10-11ish theme would be super cool... Maybe for an upcoming fl update the UI could have stages of complexity (amount of features the UI presents) based on the versions of fl studio to kind of simulate the updates coming out over time but at the learner's pace?

I never believed in it, but its interesting to see how easy it is for people to think something sounds better just because they want to hear it, not because it's actually true

The only thing that kept me away from upgrading to FL Studio 12 from 10, back in 2016, was the new UI. But - guess what, I tried it again, spent an hour with 12-th FL and I loved it. Plus, this DAW received so many new features since that time... I would not even think to return to the older versions or persistenly keep using "holy 11-th version". And implementing that the 11-th sounds better than 20-th is just stupid. Such difference, maybe was apparent between versions 2 and 3, and those two were different from FL Studio 4, since its sound engine was reprogrammed. Or was it?))) I remember reading something among those lines somewhere, please, correct me on that xD IIRC, when Blender got up to the version 2.5, with the renewed UI as well, I think that a lot of users initially hated it.

I'm returning to music production after a 15 year hiatus, and migrating my FL Studio 4.5 project to 20 via 11 (which I have running in a Windows XP Virtual Machine). This means I am re-learning FL Studio in 2 versions at the same time. I'm glad I picked 11 and not 12, that was just dumb luck. I'm glad precomputed effects are back, I only use it for normalizing recorded audio, but it saves me doing it in a separate editor. The info on PDC was especially helpful because I could not figure out why it was working in 11 but not 20. Loving both versions, loving the free updates, will have to throw you guys some money soon and buy something just to say thanks.

The "louder" is "better" crowd. They did the same thing on Dan Worrall's KZbin channel. If only they could listen as much as they like to espouse their own misinformation on to others, they might actually learn something worthwhile for themselves. But, like you suggest, many such "producers" are happy to wallow in their own ignorance. At least now, their followers/subscribers don't need to be misled by them. We can just direct anyone believing their lies to this official video.
