Things that effect life's appearances 1. Gravity 2. Light/Darkness 3. Temperatures 4. Weather/Wind If its cold, they'll be fatty or have thick fur. If its hot they'll be bald or scaly If its too windy they might be more like plants and immobile If its kind of windy they'll have stronger limbs High gravity, short and stalky Low gravity long and thin Bright- eyes with blinders Average brightness- a few eyes Darkness- no eyes good/big noses/many ears, weird sensors, creepy like the ocean depths

and there is other chemical factors too, and your being too specific with some of the options, stop limiting yourself to what we have found here, stop thinking inside the box, start thinking outside the box, or should i say? outside our planet (and yes, i typed this all just to say that joke XD) just to add some, what about land masses on the planet, breathing mechanisms or something, photosynthesising life there too, or what ever plants or animals they have there XD

I think trying to get a real idea of what aliens would look like, is almost like a person that is born blind into this world, trying to understand the concept of colors. They could look like a bottle top for all we know. We always have some kind of image in our heads, which is difficult to shake off, since we only really have an idea of what the creatures of THIS planet look like.

I'm sick and tired of always watching aliens being depicted as antropomorphic, just humans with Halloween masks. Damn Hollywood, be more creative. Even in our own planet there are creatures that defy our imagination, especially many of those that keep being discovered undersea. Nature can't be so lame as repeating itself in every other alien planet. I like the movie Dune because one of the aliens looked like a giant water creature that had to be contained inside a fishtank, like some giant slug. And you can't leave the USA without encountering a foreign language, yet you can go to the deepest corner of space and aliens speak English. WTF? Enough with the lame universal translator gadgets to justify it.

I couldn't fucking agree more. With all the diversity of life on this ONE PLANET, we all have a common ancestor, and evolved in complete isolation on Earth. There is absolutely no reason to believe for ONE MINUTE that life on other planets is Humanoid or even Tetrapodal, for that matter.

+Sick Dece No, doesn't make any sense. An intelligent creature would have to get useable energy somehow, move, sense it's surroundings and it would need to manipulate its surroundings. Nothing else. It is very unlikely intelligent life would look anything like us.
@Jordan-vr7ip
@Jordan-vr7ip 6 жыл бұрын
It doesn't make sense to you because you don't know anything about evolution. If you did then you would know that unrelated life forms that do the same job have almost the same design as each other. Life follows patterns in designs because its the most efficient, therefore you are going to have convergence, look up convergent evolution if you want to know more. The humanoid body plan is so far the most efficient design for intelligence, so we are likely to see convergence on other species if they have human level intelligence. You can watch richard dawkins talk about this in his episode of 'growing up in the universe', an example he provided was the tassie tiger or marsupial wolf, although it looks like a dog, its no where near related to a dog, but it looks like one because its doing the same job as a dog another is the fossa of madagasar, it looks like a cat but its actually related to ferrets and mongooses, it looks like a cat because its doing the same job as a cat, these body designs are the most efficient for the jobs they are doing thats why we see convergence in unrelated species. So if an intelligent life form is doing the same job us humans are doing, and they will have to be, we can predict with convergent evolution that they would have a similar body design being humanoid.

They say our human composition is perfect for the gravity on Mars. We probably wouldn't die falling from a higher distance on Mars, like we would on earth. This is one of the reasons that some people believe that people came from Mars, and shot a spaceship full of human DNA torwards earth as a last ditch effort, to keep the human species going.

Couldn't it be possible that all life in the cosmos originates from the same basic template, therefore anything that exists wouldn't be *that* out of place if we saw it? Someone who never saw a durian, a dragonfruit or even a banana, would consider them to be rather odd, yet if they knew of the existence of other terrestrial fruits, they'd have a general understanding of the process. It's entirely possible that the closest alien lifeform to us looks like something out of a fever dream of a four year old, but there's an equal amount of possibility that they'd just have two arms and two legs and two eyes and would also not be that alarmed by any of the life processes we experience. All life on Earth is built from the same complex blocks. A beanstalk, a spider, an ostrich and your grandma aren't that different, when you look at the templates. There are huge variations, but no species contain elements that other species *could not* contain, theoretically. Even if we found an alien species that looked like superintelligent sea cucumbers, they'd still look like sea cucumbers, and therefore probably contain the same four, colored lego bricks that make up every living being in your backyard. On a cellular level, life is made up of tiny machines. Mechanical, self-replicating structures. Putting aside the fact that such things require an intelligent designer to come to existence, the simple reality of the situation is that there's simply no reason for two distinct templates to exist. If ours exists, and it's so varied, wonderful and amazing that it encompasses all biological life on Earth, then it stands to reason that other worlds, if there are other worlds, were also seeded with the same pattern of life. Whoever originally wrote the code, clearly made it so that minor modifications can result in either a mealmoth or a gorilla, a rat or a lion, which would likely indicate that efficiency was likely a factor. Regardless of whether it was time constraints or laziness, it seems that they wanted to get the most out of the least. I don't presume to know anything. I just think it's weird that you and your dog share more "code" than two unnamed skyrim NPCs.

So obviously the cgi isn’t amazing or anything but imo it takes nothing away from it. I wish there were more like it out there but of the few that have came out since…unlike that one they are like 95% scientists interviews and 5% actual creature screen time ffs 🤦‍♀️ so irritating, save the “talking heads” bits til the end oss 🤷‍♀️😤

The thing is... Look at how much variation there is on Earth. Creatures tall, short, fat, thin, with all sorts of abilities. Higher or lower gravity doesn't necessarily mean that all creatures will be shorter and stronger or tall and spindly. There will likely still be just as much variation as there is here.

"unless conditions are unusual" By this I mean unusual to us. I'm not saying that it's unlikely that extraterrestrial life will be different, but if we make contact with something out there there's more of a chance that they (and their ecosystem) would be similar to us (and ours) than dissimilar. The larger the difference, the more likely it is that we either can't make contact or it would just take too much effort.

The pleiedes are a young cluster whose star systems are still developing, the chances of intelligent life existing on any protoplanet in the system are almost non existent. But if you will take as gospel that charlatan Billy Meier then that's your choice.

why could they not look like us? i mean we are all unique so why do aliens haft to all look the same?
@Galejro
@Galejro 10 жыл бұрын
You see that would depend on sensuality of those hypothetical aliens. We humans are visual, so a visual sexual dimorphism is present. But aliens may just as well be completly blind, they may have more advanced smell like most other animals, to us they look the same, but to them they smell as individually as we look. They may have far better hearing so they would constantly produce a sound which sounds unique to them, we may not even be able to hear its frequency. It would be kinda useless for an animal do develop dimorphism in a field they can't exploit with their senses, or to be precise, nothing ever evolves without a functional purpose.

I'm not exactly sure of what you are asking but compare aliens to other animals. Are they all the same? Maybe some of them to us because we cant see the difference.
@Galejro
@Galejro 10 жыл бұрын
Fearofthemonster Aaaaand that was my point you just mentioned. Animals look the same to us, most of them at least. Because they either identify themselves via smell/ pheromones unique to each other but to humans universally smelly XD or they find tiny differences in certain sructures that to us look alike. Cheetahs and Zebras have unique color patterns on fur that to us look the same, but to them they look unique, like brows or cheek bones on human faces. Aliens may or may not have this morphological uniqueness. They MIGHT NOT base their identification of an individual on the basis of looks, but smell or voice. they may be cyborgs who got implants that mentally identify individuals based on DNA scanning or something. Or are you just refferring to the lazieness of any alien movie creators to give any visual individuality whatsoever to CGI aliens. It's easier to just make one 3d model and then ctrl+c/ ctrl+v the crap out of it XD

***** I wasn't trying to contradict or disprove you. I just wanted to answer the question in a summed up and easier to read manner. To be honest I've misunderstood the question at first then realized my mistake and changed my answer on the go. Usually we can spot the difference between 2 animals but we need to do it consciously, try hard to remember the differences. It is the opposite with the human faces (at least for me) I can easily identify a person but i can't describe the key features of the person that I use to identify.

Just think. Some planets out there not only have life but their moon(s) has life as well. They aren't thinking like us "Are we alone?" lol they already know they aren't. In that area at least, maybe their question is "Are we the only life filled solar system/galaxy?" Can you imagine if our moon was full of life and had intelligent life too? Talk about a space race lol It wouldn't be country vs country but planet vs moon! :D Universe is going to be AWESOME in 30 years ;]

Life is most likely extremely common in our galaxy, and even more common in the universe. There could be species similar to ours but more primitive that wonder if there is life beyond there home planet, or species that are far more advanced than us that already have the galaxy mapped out and have the ability to communicate with us, but why would they want to talk to us when we are just one in possibly millions of different civilizations just in our galaxy?

You know prehistoric animals, a lot of them were like that before they evolved into what lives today. There are infinite possibilities. It may not look like it makes sense, but the husky animals may actually be incredibly endurant and the long legged animals could have strong skeletons.
