Definitely a bonus. When you consider how many decades we've seen astromech droids show up at costume and comic conventions, it just seemed natural that an astromech would be the first thing you'd find at a Star Wars themed land. I hope these stick around, but considering the enormous number of cast members needed to operate them and corral guests, their obvious complexity, and Disney's history of testing new technologies and then never following up, I have extremely low expectations. I hope I'm proven wrong, however. Galaxy's Edge desperately needs more walk-around characters.

Maybe some of kind of droid show would work. I'm not sure what it could be, but some kind of synchronized movements.
@TechnoEsoterica
@TechnoEsoterica Жыл бұрын
From my understanding these are semi autonomous bots that use AI. Right now they have a handling team to monitor and help them learn the layout and what things are but eventually they'll be able to do their own thing, and just have a cast member hang out with them to keep them safe. With no puppeteers involved it'll be pretty staff efficient.
@kentslocum
@kentslocum Жыл бұрын
@@TechnoEsoterica Like I said, it would be wonderful if that was true, and I would love to be wrong. "enormous number of cast members needed to operate them and corral guests" Enormous? Looked like one operator per droid and one Cast Member asking guests to make room. You can be 100% sure that any canceled technology is canceled for a valid reason. Maybe there were insurmountable technological issues we didn't know about, or the cost to operate was not worth the expenditure, or who knows what.

What find most amazing is that they absolutely hit the mark spot on for creating animatronic characters that move, act and interact like they were pulled straight out of the movie with magic, but then they totally miss the mark by having the 3 guys hovering so close to the robots with the giant controllers and then the guy holding the pole/antennae, lol. These are incredible but c'mon! They are totally revealing the magic trick, lol. There was the robotic trash can in disneyland florida or one of the parks many years back. With this robotic talking trash can there was a guy controlling it with a mic to talk into it and it would distort his voice. The thing here is that the guy had a camera bag with very cleverly disguised controls so you would be hard pressed to tell it was him dressed like a guest/patron. If they disguised the 4 guys, or even just had a starwars cart that they were pushing with props and the controls concealed I think this would have been flawless.
