On the desertification of the D.C area. It's the result of a pre-war mega project. Throw in details explaining the extreme work environment, government interference with it and robotic labor and you've got great lore. Since, to my understanding, D.C is sitting on top of a whole lot of spongey dirt and silt, along with many deposits of water (similar to Dallas TX), you can make it a point on exactly why Project Purity was such a huge deal in the first place. The whole cities underbelly, and the surrounding area, was excavated for a government job creation program. The city is sitting on concrete, tunnels and pipes all the way down to bedrock, or even further. All the water in the area is irradiated because those pipes are irradiated, the landscape is forever changed from the flash floods that take place when it rains (at least where the storm drains aren't clogged). And a large reason for D.C's out of proportion feral population is because of those tunnels being a public fallout shelter. Pre war D.C was a fortress. One that had very few nukes get through its defenses, but lots and lots of fallout. And a lot of death from its government falling apart. As for the brotherhood and enclave, I honestly like them. You need more wastelander factions, similar to NV's system of smaller factions, but changing the lore for the east coast brotherhood to be a Chicago offshoot would fit much better. The Outcasts being the noble ones, possibly accidentally creating a power armored raider group in naivety, is exactly what the game would need. And the Enclave needs their internal civil war, and lore explaining that they are effectively an offshoot as well. They don't even need to be a large faction, they could be one of the smaller ones that just give out weapons, hire Talon company as mercs to do their work and elude to a large presence somewhere else.

extreme work environment when america literally cuts out forests and builds skyscrapers from glass and steel with giant parking lots only to complain about global warming i'm not shitting on your idea i'm just pointing out that in case of anything serious most cities would turn into deserts on their own and our stupidity as species allowed that

An interesting faction concept would be a group that's Enclave-affiliated but not the Enclave themselves, having them be the descendants of the high-ranking Military and Government Officials who were at DC instead of the Oil Rig during the Great War. This would also allow them to be a viable option for your player to join, as while they're still flawed they never developed the same genocidal ideology as the Fallout 2 Enclave.

It's actually refreshing to watch a reasonable video about Fallout that tries to iterate and improve upon what we have instead of running in circles about the same moot points. I have some suggestions as well, but I practically agree with everything you proposed. 1. Vault 101 should have long lasting consequences for how you deal with the tutorial, Vault 18 from Fallout: New California comes to mind, and how that entire section is an optional while expansive area reciprocantes your choices and decisions. 2. The Karma System should be more impactful, not just dictating random dialogue and whether or not you can recruit companions, it should really be a gateway into other segments of the game as a whole. If we take your idea about having several unique factions fighting over project purity then we could expand on that and add karma to the mix. Maybe one faction does evil things for the greater good, then the system could be more complex and involve grey morality and neutral karma wouldn't be completeçy useless. 3. Random encounters as a whole should be reworked, they can lead to unexpected and entertaining situations, but most of the time are lackluster attempts at worldbuilding and at worst get in the way of gameplay for no reason. if the system was more responsive with what you did and reacted accordingly, with encounters relating to your choices being more prevalent, then I can see it being very useful tool to make the world feel alive. 4. About the climate topic, I also don't see any reason why sandstorms aren't a thing in FO3, considering they're one of the reasons why the Megaton crater was the basis for a town, to shield people from them. On your point about setting I do have an objection, there is this unused QA map cell in the game that fits the swampy D.C. feel and look very well IMO, I'm sure they couldn''t have just done this for the entire world space, and it was unused afterall so there is a reason for it to be axed, but I still feel like it's a valid basis that we can take from and improve on with world (kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZ2YdJylqa-Mpa-Yesign) 5. Milelurks and Yao Guai are probably the best original creatures that Fallout 3 has come up with, and with a little more creativity and ingenuity we could make more unique creatures that fit the setting better while still being Fallout-y, I don't know much about East Coast Fauna but if FO4 is anything to go off of, BGS can make different animals that fit the game like well Radstaggs, Gatorclaws (while still just being deathclaw reskins I feel there's potential there) and others.

Some ideas so FO3 could be improved without remaking the whole game 1-Would be cool if there was an underground power network owned by a settlement beneath Capital ruins, which also works as a trade hub between Rivet City and the settlements to the west, they sell their energy in exchange of food, water, medicine etc. Meaby have it be in conflict against the Pitt raiders who probably also own an energy production plant. 2-Vending machines could be owned by local businessmen and sell poor imitations of pre-war products. You could even add a quest that sends you to one of the food/drink factories to find recipes which you could sell or even make copies (somehow) and sell them too 3-You are wrong about your point with Vault-Tec and the F.E.V. The company was always closely connected with the old gov and the Enclave, the whole point of the vaults was to experiment on people possible scenarios they could find themselves in if they tried to colonize space. However I do agree that the Supermutant thing could have been handled better, meaby not make them all so stupid and evil? it doesn't have to be like in the West Coast, perhaps they slave people or even trade them to the slavers, meaby they scavenge material in the more irradiated areas of the wasteland for slaves to dip in the vats, give them an actual culture, have them work as mercenaries, enforcers, pricy scavengers or guards etc. 4-Talon company could be neutral at the start of the game but they turn hostile towards you if you piss them off by somehow getting in their way or making enemies of the Enclaves (after Raven Rock) at that point they send death squats to kill you, but if you kill their leader or become to big friends with the Brotherhood (at the start of Broken Steel) they leave you alone out of fear. To give them more depths, you could make them related to "Ronto", they are splintter faction of the Ronto army who fled from the north and went to the Capital in search of loot and pre-war treasure, they now survive acting as a front for the Enclave, working as hitmen, bounty hunters, caravan guards, scavengers, mercs and hired police. 5-Little Lamplight should be more grim and more like Lord of the Flies type of society, people don't leave until they are a bit more older than 18 (meaby 25?), have the settlement be more barbaric than just a bunch of silly kids running around and playing 6-There are many ways in which Charisma could be improved, here are some ways modders from FNV found the way to drastically improve it and make it a much worthwhile stat: a) "Better Charisma": Adding a flat modifier to all skills while in a dialogue that is based on the player's Charisma; So, for example, with 7 Charisma and 35 Medicine, you'll be able to pass all Medicine checks up to 45. This provides a nice alternative to high Intelligence builds. So basically you're bullshitting your way through conversations 1 Charisma: -20 2 Charisma: -15 3 Charisma: -10 4 Charisma: -5 5 Charisma: 0 6 Charisma: +5 7 Charisma: +10 8 Charisma: +15 9 Charisma: +20 10 Charisma: +25 b)"Actually Useful Charisma": Black Widow, Cherchez La Femme, Confirmed Bachelor and Lady Killer now require 6 or more charisma. Your stinky, stuttering courier no longer gets that sweet 10% damage boost. Various speech checks now require CHA instead of speech. Anything that requires making a persuasive argument still uses speech. Anything that relies on the delivery of the line (such as asking characters to trust you, lying, flirting with someone etc) now uses charisma. c)"Hardcore Charisma": Charisma will determine the kind of Reputation you can achieve with the factions. High Charisma will make it easier to become liked and harder to be hated, whereas low Charisma will make it harder to become liked and easier to be hated. To put it another way, low Charisma will make it so that you have to work harder in order to raise your reputation and you won't be able to get away with as much, whereas high Charisma will make it so that you can get away with a lot more and don't have to work nearly as hard to raise your reputation. This of course would need a reputation system d)"Charisma alters Companion limit": Doesn't need explanation Charisma:1-3 == 1 Companion Charisma:4-5 == 2 Companions Charisma:6-7 == 3 Companions Charisma:8-9 == 4 Companions Charisma:10 == 5 Companions 7-The roleplaying aspect would be improved if there was a reputation system instead of the karmic one, maxing reputation with one faction would earn you unique rewards like player homes, weapon and armors etc but earn you the ire of others. Max reputation with the slavers will make you hated by the abolitionists. 8-Gambling would be awesome and make Luck more valuable, cards, dices, slot machines etc. 9-NV survival mechanics, sleep, food and hidratation, make Endurance more valuable and if possible add the Survival/Outdoorsman skill. Food recipes, poisons and drinks too. 10-Traits, like....bruh 11-More random encounters, in NV there are mods that reintroduce the random encounters when you fast travel, go around the world or even try to sleep, the amount and type of encounters could vary depending on your luck, reputation and survival 12-Restrict fast travel behind caravans, so you have to pay. You can also work as a guard but you have to walk all the way along the routes and defend the cargo from raiders and critters, like you had to in FO 1 and 2 13-Use explosives to open safes and doors, but there is a chance that whatever lies inside could be broken 14-Someone below, calvenknox8552, suggested an idea for why DC remained a dry wasteland, this lore could be easily implemented in terminals, notes and scientists around the wasteland Thanks for not making an autistically 8 or 10 hours long video bitching about the game and making sincere and logical suggestion of how it could be improved instead of rewriting the whole thing from zero and throwing so much shit at Bethesda or sucking from Obsidian's cock

Some great ideas, my thoughts: 3 - I still think it's better to come up with a new mutagen instead of shoehorning in super mutants, even if Vault 87 having FEV is plausible due to tangential connections between Vault-Tec and the pre-war government. 6d - Any more than 3 companions would likely cause pathfinding and balance issues. Maybe it could be CHA 1-4: 1 companion, CHA 5-7: 2 companions, CHA 8-10: 3 companions. 7 - I don't think there are enough non-permanently hostile factions in Fallout 3 to justify a FNV style reputation system, or even Fallout 2's per-town reputation. Fallout 3's Karma system, although flawed, already has more of an impact than reputation/Karma ever did in Fallout 1/2. 8 - Gambling was planned to be in Fallout 3, but got cut for unknown reasons (likely time constraints). 11 - Fallout 3 does have a lot of random encounters, some of them only appearing if you've completed certain quests or your Karma is too high or low. Aside from increasing the quantity further, there's not much room for improvement here.

This is a science-fiction fantasy. Radiation only effect spiders negativelly if you want it. They could be bigger and meaner if you want to. Real life science is not an excuse for a game like bethesda fallout. They ditched the spiders and kept the scorpions so they can trick the old fans to buy the game and talk about it for the possible new fans. This is the real life science behind rad scorpions. They did the same with caps and super mutant and deathclaws and the Brotherhood of Steel. It was not a creative decision. It was a decision of a suit with a survey in his hand.

I thought about this once and here’s what I came up with: DC was hit especially hard during the Great War and with special weapons with a very long radioactive half life. No life save ghouls and certain mutated creatures could survive. Only in the last 20 years has the radiation reduced enough that people could start living in the area again. This would explain why it’s a wasteland after 200 years. In my reimagining the plot would revolve around factions trying to gain access to DC’s immense store of weapons and knowledge that have sat unclaimed because of the lethal radiation. The player character would have to decide which faction to back and that choice would impact the rest of the game. The factions: The Brotherhood of Steel. The Brotherhood always suspected technology lay beneath DC and so early on deployed a forward monitoring force to keep an eye on the region and report back. When news of the finished radiation levels reached leadership, the BOS, now exiled from the NCR, sent out an expeditiously force to claim the technology to keep it out of the hands of others and to give them the edge they need to either reclaim California or establish themselves as the dominant power in the East. The Enclave. The bits of the Enclave that survived fallout 2 followed the BOS to DC and set up camp at an abandoned military base. They are trying to build up their strength to claim the technology before the BOS can. Super Mutants. Following the defeat of The Master the super mutants scattered. One faction went east. Their leader (a new character) suspects that the original plans for the FEV and the tools that created it are in DC. With those tools he hopes to re-engineer the FEV to cure super mutant sterility and allow them to build their own society away from humans. Others in the faction disagree and you can optionally side with them to pursue and alternate path. A ghoul faction made up of long time residents of DC who have been able to survive and want the technology for themselves to either expel the newcomers or otherwise allow their society to survive. Other factions are possible like a new southern confederacy that wants to secure its position. Or maybe a year zero faction that believes all the tech and knowledge in DC should be destroyed. Not fleshed out, but I think this would have made a more compelling Fallout 3 than what we got.

4 points: - There should be no creatures produce by FEV (mutants, centaurs, floaters, etc). Those were created by the Master's experimentation, and it doesn't make sense that they develope on their own at the other side of the country. - The BoS could be replaced by another faction that came out from the military. That would explain why they have heavy weapons and power armor, but they can have the ideology Bethesda wants. - The presence of the Enclave could have made sense if the game took place closer to the war (25 to 50 years). It would make sense that the bulk of the Enclave lived at the capital, and maybe the oil ring was a secondary base. At the end of the game you end up kicking them from DC, so they move their main operation to the west coast. - I like the idea of Liberty Prime, but not its implementation. I think it's hilarious that in the middle of a resource crisis, the US government spends tons of resources, time and money in making a super-weapon (that's far less efficient that the nukes they already had). That's exactly the kind of stupid decision the government would make. However I don't like that in the end Liberty Prime works. There should have been a quest where the brotherhood (or the faction that replaces them) hopes to use it against the Enclave and so they order you to help the main scientist to finish the project. You go collect some materials and stuff and maybe find some notes from the original scientists saying things like "this robot is never going to work but the army keeps insisting that we finish it". And even if you show this evidence the project continues. In the end, after you finish the stupid robot, it takes one step, falls down and explodes. In the end it was a stupid waste of time, money and resources which could have been used to help people if the government wanted to. That's exactly the kind of message that Fallout wants to give.

Given how few people played Fallout 1 & 2, I can forgive Bethesda reusing elements in Fallout 3 (though cramming them into every game since has been too much). I agree it would've been nice to at least try to have a more reasonable justification of the presence of the BOS and Enclave, but it needn't have been pure coincidence they are both there: one faction's efforts in The Capital Wasteland could've drawn the attention of the other to the area, so only one justification would be required. I also actually really like the Lyons brotherhood goal shift because it had consequences, with The Outcasts splitting off, though I wish they'd done a lot more with them.

There's a few things I really disagree on. The prime antagonist is the Enclave, that is the continuation of the American shadow government/intelligence apparatus. I agree with the amount of Chinese weapons being too high, but the baddies need a justification for existing. Having chinese spies still operating in DC is perfect, though this should have been expanded upon instead of ignored by Bethesda. Also, DC being the US capital, it makes sense for the Enclave to be there, even prior to the events of Fallout 2. If anything they should be the major faction in DC patrolling trade routes and actually doing things for the people of DC. Funny enough, there is no difference between Col. Autumn and the East Coast Brotherhood. They're opposed to each other because they want control of the same thing. The East Coast Brotherhood is fine. I like to think of them as a splinter group from the Brotherhood in Fallout tactics even if this isn't stated in game. Having the Outcasts as ideological purists is makes sense, as you should have conservatives break away from a group that no longer resembles its former self. there is weird jumping in fallout 3 wich somewhat was fixed in vegas and shooting does suck nothing screams "immersion" like that weird moment when you are perfectly aimed at npc's head while looking from behind a corner and bullet hits invisible part of the wall or the fact that by deafult there is no way to aim the weapon
@gamingguru2k6 Жыл бұрын
@@ryszakowy Holding right click, L2, or Left Trigger reduces the spread and zooms all weapons in both games. The animations in FO3 imply steadying the weapon, the 10mm pistol is held with both hands for example. Fallout New Vegas uses the aesthetic of Iron sights and is functionally the same. Both games have wonky collision meshes in certain areas. I've been playing both FO3 and New Vegas, both unmodded, for back to back comparisons lately. They are almost identical mechanically in every way. DT and Perks are the big differences between the two games. It makes me wonder if you've even played either of them.

1) most people accept that fallout new vegas' gunplay is kind of trash, barely serviceable at worst. 2) Vegas made a lot of changes to combat that are subtle but make the gunplay feel infinitely better than 3 by comparison. It isn't just the addition of iron sights, additional ammo types and weapon variety make vegas' combat far more interesting than fallout 3, being able to take a shot gun and basically turn it into a powerarmor/robot destroying sniper with pulse slugs, or a delete button with dragons breath rounds was a great addition. Making the weapon spread way less ridiculous as well. In fallout 3 bullets will literally fly out of the gun sideways and that looks stupid, breaks immersion, and feels terrible, whereas bullet spread in New vegas is kept to a far more realistic degree without removing it entirely and making the player a crack shot from the moment they get let out of Doc Mitchell's house. As far as jumping, I never noticed any problems with it beyond the typical Bethesda affair, especially when trying to take running jumps and realizing my character was slightly coming off the ground so I couldn't jump and falling to my death instead of jumping being pretty common.
@gamingguru2k6 Жыл бұрын
@@nickelakon5369 I was just using an LAER in NV and watching some of the shots come out practically sideways. There isn't generally a reason to do any platforming in FO3 or NV. @@gamingguru2k6 what do you mean there's no reason to do platforming in either of the games? The vault dead money has a lot of it.

Fair comments. They were fans who picked up another devs franchise and put their own twist on it, so yeah it does things different to the older fallout games, what yourself and every other critic would do is change things as well, so make mods or use mods. If you want rain you can have it, if you want dps and all the other FNV add ons use TTW and you can have it, you want different height npc's and creatures use Marts mutant mod and you can have it. Most of these issues have been addressed in one form or another, but to be honest I kinda like it as is because a lot of the time they introduce another set of issues. Each to their own.

@@Timmy51m 15 years ago I couldn't tell you if many true Fallout fans thought 3 was a great game at the time, I was barely sentient, what I can tell you is that not long following it's realize people did start to release that it's gameplay loop is medicore and the games main story sucks. Mods cannot fix this, apart from the gameplay loop I suppose, but then I'd rather play a different game. Why should I be greatful or apathetic towards perceived flaws that could've and should've been improved in hindsight so the next piece of media following the one I liked is better? I don't think those people, and me are never pleased with anything, infact, it's the opposite, ignoring the winded 42 hour video introspectives people were criticizing Fallout 3 soon after playing FNV which was the true 3D Fallout experience in many ways. That's only 2 years after Fallout 3's release, is what I observe now less relevant due to the passage of time even though new Fallout media WILL continued to be released and should be held to a certain standard? I don't get this argument. I don't think it was ever a 'great' game, if your game genuinely becomes dated by a sequel that's equally as dated engine, graphically and development wise then your game wasn't great, it was medicore and people just liked it and had no true alternatives. Fallout 4 is arguably a more dated RPG despite looking better than FNV. Genuinely I can't say with a straight face that people would've been less happy with better RPG mechanics, better world building, & better story all built onto the parts of the game that already were good. Because people were happy with FNV.

About iron sights... If you're going to be objective and "look at the game at the time it was made" it was in development in 2006-2007 CoD4:MW didn't come out till 07. No iron sights wasn't a mishap it was a design choice. Although CoD and Brothers in Arms had done ADS for a few years... it definitely wasn't popularized at all yet. The bigger WWII shooter that was better known was Medal of Honor and it had the exact same zoom mechanic. Halo, Bioshock, Farcry, Timeshift, Killzone, team fortess, gears of War, Area 51, Metriod prime... NONE of these games had ADS (aiming down sight) and in fact most of them had a slight zoom aim mechanic instead. CoD just standardizrd ADS and sprinting to the point that if your game doesn't have it? It's a pos. And that's kinda a critical error if you're gonna base your changes on time during development. It was meant to be an RPG with guns not a strict action shooter. The idea of being aware of your surroundings in a large open environment was the idea, not that it was: "too difficult for them to implement." Modders making this change that early was more about changing it to a cool more fps like perspective back then, not necessarily modernizing it to a current standard.

Fallout 3 released in October 2008, nearly a year after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. There was plenty of time to take influence from it. Even before the original Call of Duty there were a few games with iron sights, such as Vietcong, America's Army, WWII Online, and Operation Flashpoint.

Mothafuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucka.... *but very exacerbated* Anyways i agree with nature on the edges of the map the power plants etc. Far as factions go much as i like the FO3 BOS i agree and i agree about the enclave. So heres my ideas for what I'd do. Focus more on the bethesda original factions Like the tree minders basically cool isolated wasteland druids could have done stuff that branched off how you handled the Herald quest to maybe help them accelerate nature returning to the capital in in the ending because clean water and the Herold quest and other outcomes. Or hell Reilly's Rangers, Talon Company, the temple of the union the paradise falls slavers etc. I mean speaking of quests branching off eachother the Reilly ranger rescue mission ties into stealing independence cause in the hotel you save them from in one of the rooms you ca find the corpse of Sydneys dad and the final message he left her if you want her SMG without killing her or having her die for example. Bethesda makes all these cool sounding faction concepts like treeminders the temple of the union the railroad the commonwealth minutemen the institute the free states militia the responders etc etc etc... But either don't develope them enough or basically not at all but will get on their knees like a 2 dollar whore in heat for the BOS or Enclave because fan service and energy guns and power armor...shoving them onto everything and being like the only fun fully developed faction because they are.

It wasn't like this during Daggerfall and Morrowind but both after Daggerfall and after Morrowind developers who made those games unique left the company and in the time of Oblivion bethesda became a soulles junk-game manufacturer. I could understand this because this is how the USA works but they went further than this. Now they had enough money to attack other companies who were still in the creative phase and they tried to destroy them. They became evil as soon as they had the opportunity.
