SUFI CONCEPT OF TOW'HEED AND SHIRK. Al-Ghazaalee to explain the meaning of their Tawheed and their Shirk. He said: “Anyone who does not see Allaah in everything, then he sees ‘other’ than Him,” and that “The pure Tawheed is to see in everything nothing but Allaah” See Ihyaa’, V. 1, p. 288. The meaning of such “Tawheed” is that there is one existing Being and that is Allaah. The one who sees an existence other than that of Allaah is the Mushrik (who commits Shirk). Al-Ghazaalee explained the perfect understanding of la ilaaha ilia Allaah as: “To see none except the One, the Truth. ” and that this represents the “perfect state of Tawheed]” He referred to a state of “Tawheed,” “witnessed by the sincere ones and which the Sufis call Al- Fanaa’ (annihilation) in Tawheed” as the one in which, “Only One (i.e. Allaah) is seen in the entire existence.” Al-Ghazaalee stresses that the utmost objective of Tawheed is to see, “Al-Kull (everything) not as Katheer (many), but as one,” and that this “represents the objective of the (Sufi) knowledge known as Kashf” and that, “The secrets of this knowledge should not be recorded in a book.” He defined the Mushrik as the one, “Who affirms the existence of an existence1 besides that of Allaah” and that Allaah is, “The witness and the Witnessed, the beloved and the Beloved, and He is the shaakir (the one who is thankful) and the Mashkoor(The One Who deserves acknowledgment and recognition)… Ihyaa’, V. 1, 288, V. 4, pp. 86-87 and pp. 245-247. He relates the saying of some of the Sufi mystics including that of Abu Yazeed Al-Bustaamee, “The Awliyaa’ (so-called Sufi saints) see only Allaah in the two Worlds (lofty and low one).” [Ref. Rawdat At-Taalibeen, p. 9. Published by Maktabat Al-Jundee, Egypt, quoted in A. Dimashqiyyah's book "Abu Haamid Al-Ghazaalee and At-Tasawwuf p. 296, second edition, published by Daar Tayebah, Riyaadh, KSA, 1409/1988.]

..and A'ujub عجب is partly pride (kibr).. In pride one thinks of himself superior and of others inferior while in A'ujub one thinks of others not inferior though but of himself not inferior either, one thinks of himself as of some worth and importance among others, which is not the approach of pious ones, pious ones think of themselves as inferior than others and of no importance, they cling to total humility and self negation at all times.. and so A'ujub عجب is a sin for pious ones as it is considered a step ahead towards pride (kibr) which is of the major and the worst of sins, infact the major sins of all after shirk (polytheism) or equal to it..

How AlGhazzali judges Allah' decree. And he, (al Ghazzali) said - and we ask Allah to forgive us for sharing this here, because of what it contains of accusing Allah of being unjust, Exalted is He, The Most Beautiful Names belong to Him - : AlGhazzali says about Allah,'((He took the Angels as close companions without anything that makes them deserve this, and move Iblees away without any previous crime!)) sanaulla sharief I have read a lot of your comment about Imam al-Ghazali. If what you are saying is true, why is it that he is considered the Mujaddid (reviver) of his century (5th century). Most Islamic scholars consider Imam Al Ghazali as one of the great Islamic scholar to have been produced. His books are taught all in most islamic universities (for example in Usul al-Fiqh, his book al-Mustafa, is a very important book). So all these scholars have got it wrong, and you have got it right?

sanaulla sharief I did say MOST scholars considered Imam Al Ghazali as one of the greatest scholar to have been produced.Ibn Taymiyyah, Ibn Qayyim and few others are the ones who criticised him. The issue of his book being condemned during his life time: yes, you are right, his book was burnt by the Morrocans. The reason it was burnt is because Imam Al Ghazali criticised the Faqih (in his Ihya ulum al-din) as people of the dunya. This infuriated them and they burnt his book and not because of the content of the book.

Hafiz Ibn Kathir (died 774H) said: ((and he wrote in this period his book “Ihyaa-Uloom Al Deen” and it's a weird book that contains various types of religious information, mixed with some Sufi stuff and heart works, but it has lots of non-authentic Hadeeths, and fabricated ones, like there is in other books that are used as a proof of Halaal [Lawful] and Haraam [Unlawful], so, the book that's been put for heart works, arousal of interest, and intimidation is easier than others, and Ibn ul-Jawzy then Ibn Salaah criticized him a lot, even Al-Mazurry wanted to burn his book “Ihyaa Uloom Al Deen”, also some others of Magharibah (people of Maghrib), and they said: this is the book of Ihyaa (resurrecting) Uloom (the sciences) Deen (of his religion), about our religion: its resurrection is the Holy Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), like it was mentioned in his biography in “At-Tabaqaat”, Ibn Sakrah, falsified the faults in “Ihyaa Uloom Al Deen” and explained the falsehood of it in a useful book)). (Al-Bidayah Wan-Nihaayah: 12/174).

What do I do with Aby Yazeed? I saw Allah and that sufficed me!! Abu Turab said: so I got angry and I couldn't take it, so I said: woe to you!! you take Allah for Aby Yazeed, if only you saw Aba Yazeed one time that would have been better for you than seeing Allah seventy times! He said: so that follower was shocked and he denied this saying, so he said: and how is that? He said: woe to you!! don't you see Allah at your place, so He appears to you according to your rank, and you see Aba Yazeed with Allah where He appeared to him according to his rank)) (Al-Ihyaa: 4/305). And he - may Allah have mercy on him - said: ((Know, that singing is more exciting for passion than Qur'an for seven reasons: First reason: is that all Ayat (verses) of Qur'an don't suit the state of the listener and don't fit his understanding ..... )). (Al-Ihyaa: 2/298). And he said - may Allah have mercy on him - : ((So, hearts, even if it burns with love for Allah, the verse - of poetry - which is unknown for it, excites it more than the recitation of Qur'an, and that's for the rhythm of poetry and the likeness between it and the human nature)). (Al-Ihyaa2: 2/301). And he said - may Allah have mercy on him - : ((“Sahl At-Tustury” said: Allah has some servants this town, that if they curse the unjust people, there wouldn't be an unjust person on earth except that he dies in one night .. until he said: and if they asked Him - Allah - to stop the Judgment Day, He would stop it!). And he said - may Allah forgive him - : ((Al-Junaid - may Allah have mercy on him - said: I like for the beginner follower “that he doesn't make his heart busy with three things, earning his living, asking for Hadeeth (learning it), and getting married. And he said (Al-Junaid): I like for the Sufi that he doesn't read or write, as this is better for him)) (Al-Ihyaa: 2/206). And Ghazzaaly commented - may Allah forgive him - and said: ((and like that is the state of the friends of Allah (Awliyaa), so in these types - of people - you should look for them.)).And he said - may Allah forgive him - : ((and of them, one, whom the Ka'bah comes to him, and circumambulate him while visiting him)) Al-Ihyaa: 1/269). And he - may Allah forgive him - said: ((Abu Yazeed and others used to say: not the scholar is the one who memorizes of a book, and when he forgets what he memorized he becomes ignorant, the scholar is the one who takes his knowledge from his God at anytime he wills, without memorizing or taking lessons!)) (Al-Ihyaa: 3/24). And he, may Allah forgive him, said - and we ask Allah to forgive us for sharing this here, because of what it contains of accusing Allah of being unjust, Exalted is He, The Most Beautiful Names belong to Him - : ((He took the Angels as close companions without anything that makes them deserve this, and move Iblees away without any previous crime!)) Macme fan with due respect one might take it as so who himself is spiritually asleep.. infact this is the voice tone of a pious one, the one whose heart is totally occupied by humility and God fear, who keeps awake at most part of the night while worshiping God and fast on most days while self negating, who avoids much food, sleep and physical needs, who protects his gazes, steers away from the worldly glitterings, sacrifies emotions, gives abundant, reaches the needy and weak, who grieves for the spiritual sufferings of others, who devotes for others to find their way to salvation, whose thirst for knowledge and self purification never quinches and who is restless about his own here after.. Alas, you and i could understand it well enough and find the taste of heaven in this world.. God bless!
