Never did beverage, but when i was in Food Service they ALWAYS looked extremely miserable. Coke, Pepsi, and beer. I’m sure that isn’t the case for everyone though. I highly suggest every new cdl driver to start off with food service simply for the great pay, day one benefits, and for the HUMBLENESS! Man will food service humble you.. lol.

I pulled trash and now pull mail for a living. I'm a rookie driver with two years of experience. Backing up on a 20 degree inclined tipper in a landfill in pouring rain was a great learning experience. I currently pull mail from Richmond, VA to Dulles distribution center-Capital Heights,MD distribution center, back to Richmond, VA. I travel up and down I-95, I-295, I-495, I-66, and Route 28 every evening. Getting experience with dealing with dense traffic, while operating a 10-speed straight manual gearbox is fun. Plus, my route involves NO TOUCH FREIGHT! New drivers should look into polling mail for a private contractor.

Man I love your channel so much. I live in North Carolina and am going to take the permit test for the CDL Wednesday. I don't know who specifically I'll end up going with but all I can think about is going to Food Service. I don't know how it's going to realistically go but that is my ultimate goal. Especially now that you mentioned something about the hour's. I know you'll work long hours sometimes but sometimes is better than everyday.

I appreciate the support bro. Yep, you might experience some long days from time to time but hopefully not everyday. Not all food service drivers work a bunch of long crazy hours. If you get with a company and you’re having very long day’s consistently, I personally would probably start looking elsewhere. Unless you just don’t mind the long hours. Good luck man.

I got my CDL back in 2002. Started with Matagrano Inc. (Budweiser Dist) in 2002 starting at $15.00 an hour. Did 10 years and made it to $22.60. I then moved on to 7up in the East Bay and worked there for 8 years taking a pay cut starting at $18.00 an hour. After 8 years I made it up to $23.80. I’m now with the garbage company (Recology South Bay) and I am very happy👍🏽 Great pay, great health benefits with an awesome pension plan and it’s TEAMSTERS Local 350. It’s about the same but beer is much harder than soda because you’re dealing with primarily bottles & can. Soda has more plastic bottles which is another reason beer is more physically demanding. Soda has bottles but not as many as beer.

Exactly.

I went OTR for a month and wanted my life back. Now I'm being trained to be a relief driver (eventually get my own route if I stick around) with a beer delivery company. Yeah, this is probably the hardest work I've ever done. But my experience is different than yours 2 months in. Firstly we don't price. Secondly the drivers get paid a flat daily rate + x cents per case/keg. So they wanna be flying thru the day. And the dudes that are really good typically end up working 7-12 hour days. I'm sure them hours can increase in the summer depending on case counts. Lastly, idk if you had this, but 3 day weekends are so fucking nice. Can't stress that enough. I honestly love this job I just wish it paid more. I'm only making $19/hr rn but even as a driver I'm sure I'd only pull 3400-4k a month depending on the route I get. But the exercise is so good for me and I'm markedly stronger probably than I've ever been after just 2 months of throwing these cases, downstacking pallets, scooping and dropping stacks, and lifting them kegs. Fuckers weigh as much as I do lol. That being said I'm still only staying till I can get a regional trucking job that'll pay more. I miss being on the road I just don't miss counting the days till I'm home.

National DCP is a pretty good company to go for and the pay is good as well 👍 I totally feel the vibe from where you are coming from and from your story as well. I used to work at pepsi very hard work and a lot of heavy case’s and long hours and the pay was a little off at that time but yea definitely go with National dcp they pay about 35.00 an hour depending on what state you live in but where I am from in New Jersey the pay is 35.00 an hour starting out which isn’t bad at all.

I've been with McLane Foodservice out of the Milwaukee distribution center for a little over a year now. The physical activity is a nice challenge doing 12 to 13 stops delivering up to 1400 cases in a 14 hour window. The 4 day (non consecutive) work week and the opportunity to gross $70-100k was a deciding factor to come here. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tx isn't as good as BCBS Illinois but it's a good gig nonetheless.

I got into beer back in April because they had a “driver in training” position available. Worked for 5 months and got my CDL! After that, shit changed…. Supervisor was constantly on my ass over the pettiest of shit. Company had the worst routing system I’ve ever seen. Drivers would literally HAVE TO route themselves and would essentially document how they did the route and would report back to the router to adjust…. Yes, I’m serious lol…. Besides that… rotating product AND merching accounts PLUS dealing with barrels… yeah, I did ONE month after I got my CDL and said FUCK THIS! I quit a couple weeks ago. Going back to food and joining US Foods in a week. Can’t wait to NOT merch accounts or rotate product! Or fuck with barrels and trap doors! FUCK beer!! I worked for a Budweiser distributor fyi…

Lol man I left out so much stuff that I didn’t like.. I didn’t mention those heavy beer Kegs smh. One of my liquor store accounts would order 30 keg’s like once a month along with the 7-10 pallets of beer. We also had to pick up all the empty keg’s and take back to the DC😂 It was brutal man. Rotating product, merchandising, sometimes waiting long periods of time to be checked in..4 month’s was long enough for me bro..Now I just drop & GO! ✌🏾
@shawng4886

@@imanthonytv that was another thing… picking up empties! Problem was almost none of the drivers actually did their fucking jobs regarding empties. So if someone took a day or had vaca time, they’d just throw someone on that route, with the TERRIBLE routing system, and you’d have to basically do THEIR work too because there were always empties to pickup…. Yeah, we did Sprecher and New Glarus. Barrels were 180lbs each! Up and down stairs… the fucking hand truck would barely move with 2 barrels on it(close to 400lbs) but we were expected to do it if we were gonna get done at a decent time… One of the routes I got assigned to after a guy quit was a rural area driving ALL OVER the place and that route generally had 350-400 cases all put away plus 40-60+ barrels. Smh fucking terrible! I’ll always be grateful I got my CDL there(although it was mostly self-training) but I wasn’t going to put up with that shit for the pay. My checks had to have 100+ hours to clear $2,000 every two weeks…
