To piggyback off of the homophobic amongst the black community question. I say it’s really a issue with black men but it’s not really their fault for it. Growing up with a black family and in a mostly black neighborhood, I’ve always been told that I better not turn out to be gay or if I have a son he better not be gay or stuff like that but with females it’s absolutely fine in the black community or at least where I’m from. And I get it being gay is looked at as a feminine type of thing but for women it’s never talked about in a bad way. So for young black people, especially men, it’s put very deep in their mind that they shouldn’t be gay and if they are then it’s basically the end of the world or something, which is stupid to have that type of mindset.
@nei83023 жыл бұрын
i totally agree but as a black woman, i have heard some things from other black woman that were homophobic but very little so i can't relate to a high level. this issue though definitely stems off of fetishization of lesbians being sexualized by straight men with how straight woman appeal to the male gaze by kissing their best friend or other things like that because males wanna see woman on woman action. as soon as a guy acts gay in front of them though its a whole different situation and they become disgusted. women get more leeway when it comes to doing gay things because men wanna see it.
@555starz3 жыл бұрын
that’s because of the fetishizing towards lesbians
@elaysalunellaelward80213 жыл бұрын
I also wanted to add on what you said about being gay is seen as feminine which means that person's masculinity is only substantial when women are seen as weak or showcase weakness when being feminine or masculine shouldn't be seen as weak or strong. The whole feminine and masculine concept to me is very stupid because it's arbitrary. But back to what I was saying that a person's masculinity is rooted in the degrading of femininity is stupid because you shouldn't have to put someone down for you to feel strong. There's so much more to this topic that I honestly don't feel like typing out but I hope understand the gist of what I was saying.

People throw around the word "preference" and don't even know the meaning. Preferences by definition are NOT exclusionary. It just means a greater liking for one thing over another. It doesn't mean you exclude everything else. It just means that if you had your choice it would be your first pick, not your ONLY pick, but just your first pick. If you only date or are attracted to one type of person (whether it be based on race, skin color, body type etc.), that's not a preference, that's a requirement. The physical traits that we are attracted to are not born in a vacuum. They are influenced by your environment, the media you consume etc
@Roseblooddawn2 жыл бұрын
This is it. If someone is like no I won't date a certain race then...hmm why? Not attracted to them? So none of them are attractive to you or your type, generalizing them perhaps or ...hmm I see

If you see and hear lighter skinned children praised for good hair and pretty eyes, then that can also shape how you want your offspring to look. The other helps you face the source of it. Also therapists can’t prescribe you meds those are psychiatrists.

Nah he wasn’t, we reclaimed the word to use it as a term of endearment amongst OURSELVES. It will never be okay for white people or other people to use the n word no matter the context, due to power and racial dynamics that are at play thanks to the system we live in. And that’s a fact. Let’s not act like the n-word is “just a word” that black people decided to get offended by.

@@kao5763 It’s not only hurting our ancestors, it’s hurting us to this day. And if you think it’s US that’s is causing the division then... because there has and always will be a racial divide, it’s how our systems were designed, and they have not changed. until there is major change, which will not happen for a long time unfortunately, especially when presidents like trump and Biden are still being elected, then we will slowly see and ending to racial division. Black people saying to not say a derogatory slur that we are still described as to this day, used by our president and those in the senate to this day, are not the ones causing the division. Those who are systemically oppressed do not have the power to cause such division. Same applies to the working class, and those who are not able bodied

The n-word should be a black exclusive term, and here's why: *Not every word should be used by everybody.* As Ta-Nehisi Coates said, it is normal in our culture for some people or groups to use certain words that others can’t. For example, his wife calls him “honey”, but it would not be acceptable for strange women to do the same. His wife would call her girl friends "bitch".. he would never do the same. And, his dad was known by his family back home as Billy - but it would be awkward for him to try to use that nickname for his father. “That’s because the relationship between myself and my dad is not the same as the relationship between my dad and his mother and his sisters who he grew up with,” Coates said. “We understand that.” - “The question one must ask is why so many white people have difficulty extending things that are basic laws of how human beings interact to black people?” - That's why the argument becomes, "then no one should say it". And that is because they are taught that the world belongs to them, and if they can't participate in whatever they want to (esp using a word they created), no one should.

But since we're black they wanna take every little ounce of joy and kinship from us. And the argument in saying the n-word doesn't bring a sense of kinship and comradery is false, since many other groups use 'offensive and derogatory' words as a reclaimed term of endearment as well.
