I really want Alexis to be a guest on Twinnuendo. I really need to know how an interaction with her and grant would be.
@brentbentKRFPАй бұрын
Agreed! I wasn't expecting to find Grant (cuz he's straight) as charming as Darby but I did. I'd love to see Grant and Alexis chit chat especially if Alexis starts the episode pulling a bit like pretending she's Grant's twin and recounting the stories she's heard from Darby but messing up key details. "You remember when mom and dad took us took that anti-choice protest and we held signs of Madonna getting an abortion to shock people?" "That was a fetus, we held signs with a fetus on it." "No, no, it was Madonna in that chair with the straps you put your legs up into and Ashton Kutcher was performing the abortion." "He's not a doctor." "Of course not, he's a doctor in the remake of Casablanca they were going to star in that, for some reason, had an abortion scene in it but it never got made." "That's insane Alexis." "I know it is, I would never invest money in a Casablanca remake starring Madonna and Kelso from the 70's Show." That remake was actually in production at one point, that's the joke. Hope you enjoyed the set up.

grant the best way to deal with anyone from your old life that DMs you like that is just to reply "who is this?" the worst thing you can do to people with main character syndrome is make them believe you think they aren't memorable.

Therapist here! Thank you for raising awareness for the impact therapy can have. And Drew, thank you SO much for plugging Psychology Today instead of BetterHelp 🤮 Those assholes pay therapists literally $30 per session and sell your information. Psych Today is a much better way to match with a therapist! You guys are awesome and love the show!

Agreed! As someone who has worked in mental health for a while, I can’t fully express the true distaste I have for Better Help and companies like it. Capitalism disguised as something good imho. Have also found that joining online groups and pages (queer, local, and/or support groups, etc) often give the best advice and recs, if those are available to folks!

Therapy helped me realize most of my Christianity was just trauma bonds. My sibling and i have been trying to get our mom into therapy for almost 3 years now. I'm don't know if she's started, but for some reason i seriously doubt it. When she seemed to be actually considering it, I told her to avoid specifically Christian counseling. Faith can have a place in therapy, but the provider has to have actual mental health training. So much Christian counseling is the same biblical bypassing that contributed to my siblings' and my trauma.

my dad had one (1) panic attack thinking it was a heart attack, got prescribed ativan and started exercising more (his diet is still ass) and now he uses that as proof that you can just get over your mental health issues. At least my mom goes to therapy and we even have matching anxiety med prescriptions

I started having mental health problems when i was nine and grew up feeling like my dad (a pastor of course) kept taking me to conference and having people lay hands on me. He tried so hard to pray away my disability and since of course it stayed i felt so wrong made and broken. Im unpacking that shit in therapy but the damage will never be completely undone. Ill always carry that self loathing. Good times!

I absolutely loved this episode! I can't help but recommend the movie "Heretic." It dives deep into themes of religion and ideology, which have become such significant topics over so many years. I would really appreciate a review from ya’ll, maybe even as a Patreon exclusive if not on the main channel. I grew up in a religious environment, and it’s interesting to see the parallels between your experiences and mine. The only difference is I’m not a twin and I'm black lol, but I can relate in so many ways! I’m also gay, and like Drew, I cherish my husband and my relationship with my mother-in-law lol. Thank you for creating such a wonderful podcast! Yall’s comedic yet loving perspective on life’s experiences from childhood to now really resonates with me. Keep up the amazing work!

I've been running from myself for so long or distracting myself with drugs and sex, that the thought of therapy terrifies me. I wouldn't know where yo start and I've forgotten some very heavy stuff. I wouldn't know where to begin or if I could be honest enough to give the truth.
@IMHOTheShowАй бұрын
I completely understand that fear and uncertainty. Those same feelings and escapism kept me from going to therapy for years. And it finally took me breaking apart and not wanting to live anymore to get some help. And as I look back on it, I didn’t have to be there. So I believe that neither do you. You don’t have to know where to start, you don’t have to worry about remembering or even if you’re up to being fully honest…just go. They are professionals and they can handle all of that messiness and complexity. If nothing else it gives you a safe space to try something you’ve never done before to help yourself. And if it doesn’t work out after those first few sessions then take a break. But please don’t let any of those excuses keep you from trying. They kept me from trying and it almost cost me everything. ❤️❤️❤️ - Grant
@antonhaq3503Ай бұрын
@@IMHOTheShow Thanks Grant, I'll do it. When you explained about escapism and why you started therapy it was like you were describing my life. I'm kinda known as being emotionally helpful with others yet useless with myself. Am I just incapable that way or is it my fear of facing myself? I need to know. I relate to you both so much, the background, thinking I'm a sociopath etc. Thank you for doing this podcast.

I'd love just one episode of Alexis on Twinnuendo but one where Darby isn't available so Alexis pretends she's Grant's twin the whole time, keeps going on about childhood stories she's heard from Darby that she pretends are hers. Talking to my third therapist that I have for almost 10 years now, she said that it's very common for the very first therapist someone chooses to be one that is not challenging (as in tackling, approaching them in therapy, not like instigating or provoking) them and their issues because it's a deeply engrained protection/self preservation mechanism (walls we use to safeguard ourselves) to go to someone who "doesn't rock the boat too much" let's say. And it's not on purpose (usually), but more on a subconscious level. Therapy should be considered something like hydration from my pespective, so I am always encouragin ppl to do that. Ok, thank you for coming to my tedtalk 😊

How can anyone think Rose Matafeo is Canadian. ☠️ I thought she did alright for it only being the first episode. I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season goes and think the different format will be interesting. I do kind of wish they were at the normal TM house, though. I can see labeling Jeremy Wells as one of the weaker Taskmasters (of the 3 English speaking franchises, I haven't seen any others) but I don't think he's THAT bad. 😂 Also, he is not a model, Darby! He's a radio and television host. 😂

Sleeping Beauty is the one on K, not Ariel. Ariel is drunk and chain smoking. That's how she lost her voice. I understand how one could assume she had a few bumps of K before that scene where she tried using her land legs for the first time, but it was the Yeager bombs in the white Russian that did her in.

I ghosted my last therapist over a year ago because I was having health issues but really because she felt too… “Christian” somehow, even though she never really came out and said anything preachy. Hope you and all your loved ones are coping well during these dark times... Totally random (and, admittedly, quite stupid and silly) question: which celebrity do you wish had a twin? For example, I wish Lindsay Lohan had a secret twin (shooting 'Parent Trap' was the only time they've ever been seen together), and the two of them just take turns partying, going to rehab, getting matching plastic surgery, and being in the spotlight. And just for fun, I think her sister's name is Down Lohan. lol
