The two greatest people in musical history, together at last. It's astounding to me how they never made a movie together. Our maybe they did and I just don't know about it.

they treated Judy Garland so badly it was like throwing away a diamond

Who were Judy’s musical influences? How did she learn to interpret songs in the way she did? Why do we only speak about her personal life, and never how she developed as a singer given that she was one of the greatest singers of all time?

Her musical arranger and friend from her early MGM days, Roger Edens, was instrumental in helping Judy shape her musical style and delivery. 🎶❤️

Al Jolson I think, for the mordents (wavering between two notes she'll do sometimes at the end of a sung phrase) 🎵

This song is from the Rodgers & hart musical "Jumbo." MGM bought the movie rights to "Jumbo" in the early 40's especially for Judy Garland, but they never got around to making the movie until the 60's.

As Fred Astaire once said : Judy Garland, the greatest entertainer who ever lived.

Righteous Brother As did Frank Sinatra and about a dozen of the top entertainers in showbiz. I think she fell from Heaven.

@@longgrayline8055 yes of course they all said this including Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire, June Allyson, even Al Jolson etc

Frank Sinatra had been named the greatest entertainer of the 20th Century and deservedly so. But Judy Garland ranks right up there as well. Both were supreme in the field of popular music and both had that special something that others did could not match.

Well, there were the Beatles. It's impossible, don't you think, to name who's supreme? The reality is that singers, like children, come and go. Sinatra lasted a long time, much longer than the Beatles, but during much of that time he was far from supreme and there were times he had become faintly marginal. And despite her gifts, Judy Garland was never one of the leading girl singers.

Frank himself said they would ALL be forgotten, “but not Judy, never Judy”. It seems he was right. She has been gone for over 60 years and

For the record, my Dad typed this after I used his computer, while it was still logged in under my account. I'm not saying he's wrong, necessarily, but to be clear, it's not my comment.

Judy Garland did a TV special in the 60s with Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. It was popular enough to lead CBS to offer her a weekly series.

The 1940's....beautifully done. Both improved their craft later in their careers. Still, very nice...

LOL @ Beyonce & JZ - what passes for talent these days is sad! IMHO he had a wonderful voice, but it could never compare to Judy's voice and he would never make a movie with someone who could sing better than him! His was always the best voice in his films. It's too bad though, because they sound wonderful together.
