this is a german movie called Napola. They are not in love, but just good friends that met in one of hitlers highest schools to build soldiers. « too soft » ?? he wasn’t brainwashed like the others! he was empathic and self aware about what was happening.. that’s why he killed himself … he couldn’t relate to them and couldn’t deal with the horror of the way they were living .. also his bad relationship w his toxic father who wanted to send him fighting in Ukraine 😑 he would have died while fighting so he « saved » himself by dying but in his situation, there was no other choice: either go to war and die there, or commit suicide and die… at least he escaped war ! he’s the best character in this movie … btw his death helped Friedrich to open his eyes to be finally aware of the atrocity of the Nazi regime… maybe if they hadn't kicked Friedrich out of this school he'd have died in the war .. it's an open ending, but I think in the end he goes home and simply says to himself that his father was right all along.

well done 'like lovers do' absolutely wonderful compilation of clips of the (very young) beautiful and always excellent Max Riemelt (Friedrich) and i'm so sorry i don't know who Albrecht is played by and would like to see him in other productions, of the way you can be sucked in to doing wrong by propaganda and 'the need to appear macho', especially in such an organisation as Hitler Youth. I would so love to own a copy of Napola. A wonderfully scathing attack on what the Nazi's did to what, at first, might seem a deserving target of hatred, the youth of Germany at that time.

MILITARY CADETS This film reminds me of my time in military school, but without the bloodshed. The only harm I witnessed at the military academy was during annual bivouac war games in the field and woods. The Defenders in Blue fought against the Aggressors in Red. Another Defender cadet next to me with other Defenders were being attacked by some of the Aggressor cadets and was hit by an incendiary explosive device and had to be carried on a stretcher to a hospital; and we captured some Aggressor cadets during the skirmish, and as I held my rifle pointing at him after I had disarmed him, he grabbed the barrel of my Garrand M-1 to pull it from my hands, and I shot him in the arm. I obeyed an imperative rule: Never let anyone take your M-1 from you.

@jivanvasant Жыл бұрын
@@Archy_Elyn A few of the cadets were fond of each other, but public display was forbidden. The two-story barracks had communal showers on each floor that were accessible 24/7. Some cadets would visit the showers late at night but not take a shower. If a cadet was caught masturbating, he would have to wear a white, cotton, dress uniform glove for the next 24 hours to all of his classes and group activities to humiliate him. Of course, the public punishment did not stop the practice but increased every cadet's vigilance. :-)

so many ppl are romanticizing this relationship and seeing them as a couple / they ship them .. don’t think they loved e/o .. they were just friends even best friends .. there’s a scene in the movie where they spy a girl ( she’s naked or changing her clothes I forgot ) especially during this time and era being gay was not acceptable and tolerable ( gay ppl were sent to concentration camps.. ) Jews weren't the only ones in concentration camps do you know that ? Gypsies/Roms .. Soviet POWs.. Jehovah's Witnesses.. Ppl suffering w severe mental illnesses or ppl w physical disabilities ( no matter if they were aryans or not ) resistance fighters and all those who opposed the Nazi party .. also Homosexuals! So I don’t think in this movie Albrecht and Friedrich were gay but they had a great bond / relationship .. Tom Schilling & Max Riemelt are both great actors so they showed a strong bond between the characters they portrayed in the movie . Think ppl are thinking about a relationship cause of how the chemistry between Albrecht and Friedrich was this great. But I don’t think this is a “gay” movie or that they were more than friends .. When it came to studying it was easy for him to do that. But you can see the scenes where he struggles with the guns / the grenade he has to throw / the war etc He's not very athletic ... and mentally he's more into books than into war .. And that's what sets him apart from Friedrich and his other friends in general. If he made it to Napola it was just bc 1) he comes from a rich family 2) his father is a very high-ranking general and his dad is probably the one who found him a place in this school… Otherwise he would never have been accepted at a Napola

How irritating that a close male friendship is homoeroticized. I watched this movie. They are not gay (not that there is anything wrong with being gay). But just because 2 males are close friends does not mean that they are gay. It's a mischaracterization of their relationship and it's an insult to those of us men who are willing and able to show our love for our friends. I am capable of loving my male friends without being sexual with them. Just because 2 men love each other does not mean that they are gay. How ignorant.
@imlu1711 Жыл бұрын
You're the one that's ignorant, coming here to criticize me for shipping two fictional characters. I don't care if they're gay or straight, I like their chemistry together so I ship them. If you got a problem with that, go somewhere else
@imlu1711 Жыл бұрын

@@rdelamadrid Saying they had love for each other is not a bad thing. Why people are so against the idea of people thinking they were in love? it's a film and even Max Riemelt (the guy who played Friedrich said he feels like their relationship was more than friendship). plus the director said you can see it that way.
@rdelamadrid Жыл бұрын
@@DuckyQuacky-e6j I think many men already feel a great deal of pressure not to express their feelings toward their friends because of having them misconstrued as gay. This is an example of exactly why men would not be willing to express those feelings. There isn't anything wrong with being gay. But there is a lot wrong with assuming or implying that two men automatically are gay just because they express love toward each other ir because they have a deep emotional connection. If this were 2 women, it would be seen exactly as I believe it was: an extremely close friendship with a very high level of emotional intimacy. There would be no automatic assumption that the two women were gay and no "romanticizing" of their friendship. This is a disservice to men who want to show platonic affection toward their friends.
