Kant and Descartes are probably my favourite of the big name of the enlightenment, but I really have a soft spot for Hume. Hardly as well known, but some of his work is still so profound. Kant was heavily influenced by Hume's work and really, I feel that Hume probably deserve the title of being the first to really explore the process of thinking itself, influenced by George Berkeley. I wonder how many have actually read the treatise of human nature. It's incredibly long and slow, even hard to read. The tone is somewhat conceited and with the impious undertone, I imagine people have always been quick to reject it, especially back then. But of all the philosophers I've read, I don't think anything quite reaches the level of Hume's work, though I'd admit, Kant would be right up there.
