@jacobwansleeben Жыл бұрын
Personally, I see nothing wrong with the idea that skipping through time could allow Diavolo to walk through walls, it's just there's no point in the story where he needs to do this so we never see it. I don't believe that he can't move through walls just because they "don't have a soul", as Emporio's ability in part 6 proves that all physical items in the Jojo universe have a soul. Speaking of Part 6, the reason why Diavolo doesn't fall through the floor when he uses time-skip is because gravity doesn't exist in skipped time. A main theme of Part 6 is that gravity is a form of fate and King Crimson is a stand about defying fate. Therefore, it makes Diavolo immune to gravity while he's using its ability.

I just love the idea that even several years after beating him Giorno’s gang still have zero clue on how Diavolo’s Stand worked or how GER defeated it, so they decided to host a conference of as many people in the know about Stands as they can find in case they ever have to deal with an ability that bullshit again.

@SmithyLK Жыл бұрын
I also enjoy thinking about why this conference even has to happen in the first place, besides the ability just being that confusing. My headcanon is that Giorno is thinking about releasing Diavolo from the infinite death loop so that he can use it on Pucci to stop the acceleration of the universe, and the conference exists so that just in case Diavolo SOMEHOW figures out a way to not be dead after that, they can know every weakness of the ability and defeat Diavolo without necessarily needing GER. Of course, the conferences would take so long and devolve into so much chaos like this one that they're still arguing about it during the events of Part 6.

The way Rohan argues against Giorno really shows how he thinks like a storyteller (being a mangaka and all). Rohan's points mostly come from a Doylist perspective (the perspective of the author of a story, fitting since people often consider Rohan to be Araki's author avatar), while Giorno's come from a Watsonist perspective (the perspective of the in-universe characters). This also makes sense because Rohan never met Diavolo and is far removed from GW while Giorno is, well, the main JoJo of said part (though Giorno's personal interactions with Diavolo was minimal, they still share a dynamic as they're both part of Passione and are basically hunting each other).

@@chasecole6794 they’re nice terms. For a quick explanation, it refers to two figures related to the Sherlock Holmes stories. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was the author of the Sherlock Holmes stories. So a Doylist explanation looks at how the story looks from the author’s perspective. Doctor John Watson is Holmes’s companion and friend in the stories, and the viewpoint character who is usually the one Holmes explains his deductions to. So a Watsonian explanation looks at the story from the perspective of a character in that story.

Its in character, and perfectly believable that due to a blend of uncreativity, stupidity, and COCKINESS above all things, that diavolo didnt use these strategies. Uncreativity to use the ability, stupidity to not realize the implications of SKIPPING TIME, and cockiness to believe that you dont need to think about it much because HELLO, YOU CAN SKIP TIME ITSELF, YOU ARE SKIPPING TIME AND AVOIDING LITERAL GUARANTEED FATE!! Some mafia boss who gets in way over his head with time skip powers could absolutely be seen saying hell just work with his time skipping powers without working it all out. We could see this in dio constantly taking half-measures or cutting what he should do short because he had absolute and total belief in his control over the situation thanks to an ability in the same vein of being able to outright STOP time and do whatever he feels like within it. In fact, if it werent for giorno puncturing himself and getting his good ol requiem abilities, diavolo had a more than fair shot at beating our friends It was those mistakes: that stupidity, that uncreativity, that cockiness in his ability to defy fate outright creating the belief that there was never any need to fully flush out and figure out his capabilities that in turn manifested the One Thing that could stop him
@thecountercounter9127 Жыл бұрын
A perfect showcase and culmination of all of this was his brief bout with GER. Even as giorno gains requiem abilities, diavolo immediately tries to utilize his king crimson to quickly take him out. Even approaching something new and unknown, something with abilities he doesnt know, that he CANT know in the slightest, and even despite seeing and being a victim of the potential earlier shown by Req. Chariot, he moves in. There was not a second- not a thought in his mind, not a split second of belief that epitaph could be denied, that fate could be changed by anyone but him. He didnt need to change anything, even against requiem, he was too powerful to be stopped! He believed abject invincibility was the nature of his stand, and nothing and no one could change that. 23:55 I mean, to be fair, diavolvo restriction is that he can only skip time untill 10 seconds, not that he has to skip time untill 10 seconds. So a valid explanation of this could be that , since the elevator roof isn't even in the manga, Bruno DID have a reaction to diavolo going in to take Trish, then looked to the side to maybe try to find a way to stop the elevator, only for diavolo to time his ability right at the moment he's fully looking over to basically make him forget that he saw diavolo(or in this case, fated diavolo) in the first place King crimson also technically has the ability to make people forget about what would happen in the 10 seconds skipped so that could also explain turtlereff stairs scene and abacchios boat scene, both of them would be the one to attempt something very in character, no autopilot, but had that action technically be cancelled due to diavolos correct time skipping/ memory erasing
@grillersinstinct7 ай бұрын
yesss exactly what I was thinking. Diavolo is actually an insidious YTP genius, and the elevator scene’s precision cut is an example of his sentence mixing talent. Bruno staring at the wall could have been the briefest moment in him scanning the room in reaction to the boss’s ambush, and Diavolo skipped to that point to create the illusion of Bruno being unaware a body was severed from the hand he was gripping. The animation of the time skips in their later fight in the basement tracing SF’s punches frame-by-frame from KC’s perspective drives this point home for me. Yes, the time skip limit is 10 seconds, but I don’t think KC is necessarily on a 10 second in-universe timer to make actions during skips-he can be deliberate and precise as he watches fate play out in slower than slow-motion.

the issue is that bruno couldn't HEAR diavolo entering the elevator, and couldn't HEAR a hand being slashed off, and couldn't FEEL the limp hand falling due to gravity. and he also somehow didn't see a grown ass man moving in his peripheral vision (maybe this one can be explained based on where he looking, idk, but still)
@DylanYoshi Жыл бұрын
The answer is simply that we're seeing the shot from Bruno's perspective and that the elevator has multiple walls that look the same. If Bruno turned to look in the direction that Diavolo came from, he would likely be facing a wall that looks identical to the one he was already looking at, so he wouldn't think it's a different wall. And because the audience shares the same perspective as Bruno during this scene, there's no reason for the audience to see Bruno turning, as Bruno himself does not believe he has turned after forgetting everything that happened during the time skip. JoJo does stuff like this a lot, so it's a completely reasonable explanation.

13:16 Diavolo CAN in fact, walk through walls. Proof: when Bucciarati brought Trish up the elevator in San Giorgio Maggiore, Diavolo retrieved Trish in skipped time from under the elevator - while the elevator is moving. The elevator is a rectangular prism: it has 3 walls, a floor, a ceiling, and a pair of automatic sliding doors programmed to be closed while the elevator is in motion. If Diavolo cannot walk through walls, Diavolo can’t retrieve Trish from a basically sealed container. Therefore, Diavolo CAN walk through walls.
@gamerdomain6618Ай бұрын
Trish, however, cannot pass through walls. Additionally, as it can be assumed that Diavolo was only ready to catch Trish after she was retrieved by Diavolo's fate, passing through the wall makes no sense, since it would have to be done without using the unique properties of the time skip.
@Archie_SonadowАй бұрын

The fated course of events is Diavolo bursting into the elevator, grabbing Trish, and escaping with her, all done quickly enough that Bucciarati didn't notice until it was too late. Diavolo simply skipped from before he entered the elevator to afterwards, probably only a second or two. One detail to remember is that the time skip can be less than 10 seconds, so Bucciarati wasn't just standing around doing nothing for 10 seconds

For the spear thing, there is actually an answer given in the text, it's just through character instead of through action in the story. While we are never told that Diavolo can't use spears or knives or whatever weird pointy object you want to use in the example, we are shown many times the person of Diavolo, how he thinks, and how he reacts to things going on around him. There is only one time in the entire story (as far as I remember at least) where Diavolo has a moment to reflect on a difficult fight before the final showdown. This is his fight with Risotto. Diavolo had the opportunity to recognize that even with Epitaph, Doppio was struggling against Risotto. However, since it wasn't HIM fighting, he felt as though he could have simply won the fight regardless. And to an extent, he's completely correct. The time he gets to use time skip, Risotto dies. Diavolo has a massive ego which gets in the way of being able to grow as a fighter (on top of him being the kind of person to avoid fighting at all costs, meaning his competence with King Crimson in battle was rather low). People need to keep in mind, Diavolo is NOT DIO. DIO is always looking for new things he can do, he's pushing his limits to further his status as the best so that nobody could dream of challenging him. DIO always believed there was a higher state to reach because of his Heaven plan. DIO knew that he wasn't at his peak yet and was striving for a way to get there. Diavolo, however, ALWAYS thought he was the pinnacle of creation. He believed that there was no way to keep moving up aside from the arrow, an item he required rather than a method or a way of thinking. It's like how someone might lose in a video game and blame hardware instead of recognizing they aren't #1 in the world. Also Aerosmith is a manifestation of Narancia's soul, his bullets are part of the soul, so there's that too. Either way, minor character analysis of Diavolo kinda solves more issues than I thought it would, but hey, that's the fun of it.

Within the time that is skipped, there is no possible scenario where he manages to walk entirely around the wall and end up on the other side, thus, skipping that amount of time WOULDN'T permit him to bypass that wall. With the bullets, he IS physically able to be in that spot, so all the time before that is erased and he ends up in his own FATED position.

@IsaacClodfelter Жыл бұрын
I think it would be more accurate to say annihilated rather than imploded, as Valentine's D4C ostensibly simulates a particle colliding with its anti-particle. Resulting in the complete, however not instant, eradication of both. GER should be able to halt and undo near anything save it doesn't happen literally instantly, and even with stuff that does happen instantly that doesn't guarantee GER wouldn't be able to stop it. GER works by manipulating reality on an ontological level and prevents things from ever truly happening by reverting all things to 0. If you were to think of throwing a punch as going from 0, standing still, to 1, your fist connecting with something GER stops you from ever being able to reach 1. No matter what is done, regardless of any actions anything can be reverted to 0.

I think it's more that a lot of fans try to, for lack of a better phrase, CinemaSins a story to death by nitpicking each and every detail, or as Koichi and Rohan do in this animation bring up completely random examples or hypotheticals that do nothing but confuse the conversation anymore. Araki's not flawless with his powers but it's very apparent he didn't expect people to overanalyze the idea of "skipping time". He started and stopped at "Part 5 is mostly a discussion about how fate works in Jojo"
@EditUnivers75 Жыл бұрын
@@SylentVoidkeeper (death spoilers part 5 but ya know) What you said about fate is absolutely true. I see part 5 as a story that cares a lot about it’s themes. King Crimson is frequently described as “skipping to the result”, and it’s elaborated why that’s so bad in Abacchio’s death scene when he sees his partner again. A man who may never see the results of his investigation, but that continues to seek out justice anyway because as long as he’s working towards it, he’s always moving closer to that ideal. And that’s what life is about, not the results. So while my only real question about King Crimson is whether he can ACTUALLY hurt people within skipped time or not, those scenes where he seemingly does become much easier to swallow thinking about it as just skipping to those results, like what the video and numerous others say about “fate Diavalo.” After all, if Diavolo intended to do that, and everyone saw him do it, by skipping time he skips to the result with no work done. And he avoids the consequences of all the characters who would have certainly witnessed it because they don’t have any of the memories of the event after skipped time.

At the end, I think Rohan is right. Araki liked how strong Dio's ability was and how much you could do with it so he tried to recreate that terror of someone being able to stop time. But he obviously didn't want to just copy the ability. So he tried to come up with something that is very similar, but different enough, not realising that some aspects wouldn't work anymore. I mean, even Pucci has basically the same ability at the end. He just gets very very fast but ultimately, it's the same thing Dio does, because from his perspective the others are barely moving. And while I think Araki can have moments of brilliance, I also think people really overrate him especially when it comes to terms of foresight with abilities. He is not afraid to change them on the fly if he thinks something works better as he keeps writing. And that has its pros but also cons.

I'm going to imagine an alternate reality where Diavolo does, in deed, use spears. He just has them hidden literally everywhere around him at all times, and he's able to pull them out at whim. Imagine your walking down the street eating ice cream and are just now passing a tree. Then when you go to lick your ice cream it’s gone and the tree you were just next to is now 30 feet behind you. You then notice you have a scraped knee and your ice cream is on the ground. That’s skipped time for everyone else Now imagine you can see the future but can’t change it. You foresee a kid is going to trip on your foot and get ice cream on your new shirt. You can’t avoid this fate by changing your actions as the vision you see already factored in your reaction to it. But you have the ability to skip time. Using this ability you can let the foreseen events all play out without being involved in them. So you skip the next 20 seconds and step out of the kids path and watch as the kid trips on nothing where you foot was supposed to be, falls dropping his ice cream, and apologizes to the air in front of him as if you where standing there before moving on and continuing to walk down the street. Then as the skipped section of time ends he goes to lick his ice cream only to be confused why his hand is empty while you stand watching with a clean shirt. That’s diovalo’s perspective

I've always thought about King Crimson's ability as less being able to skip time, and more that that's a consequence of it's actual ability, which is to get to an _effect_ without needing to go through the _cause_. This is also consistent with the thematic nature of it's ability, since the only way to beat King Crimson was with GER, which allows for a cause to happen without the effect occuring, a perfect defense against KC's power.
@Interestking Жыл бұрын

Honestly this video is the best guide on King Crimson I've ever seen. I've seen plenty, and even though the basics (what's needed to understand the story) are easily understandable, the details (what helps up understand the "what-if" questions) are the killer here. I feel like both Rohan and Giorno have an understandable point here. Rohan simply believes the spectacle and movement of the story are what really matters, and that the ability isn't meant to be looked into too hard. Giorno believes that looking into the ability too hard is integral to understanding what all someone can or can't do, allowing for better, more complex abilities in the future. While both sides are flawed in their own ways, I wholeheartedly believe that both sides *not only* hold merit, but are both simply correct ways of looking it. The "point" of the discussion of "How the heck KC work?" isn't to simply be a contrarian or to argue against each-other, it's to help people understand it better. And although the "what-if" scenarios are an important and though-provoking exercise, (much like the video itself) these what-ifs drown out the basic information and abilities that some people genuinely are unable to grasp. All-in-all, this video is great at not only outlining why this topic is so complicated, but also the issues that come up whenever anyone tries to sort it out. An amazing video, Viva Reverie. May you continue making amazing content. 🙏

To add on to the idea of using a spear with King Crimson, another possibility is that Diavolo saw King Crimson as so powerful that he never thought to push it to its limits. Alternatively having a spear or an outfit made of knives might have attracted too much attention.

Also like. Diavolo thought he was basically invincible. If you don't know how his stand works, he can sort of just eviscerate you instantly. I think it's fully possible that Diavolo never tested it out too much because he was just that confident in his ability to win with just punching holes through people the moment his time skip ends. It's very egotistical and in character.
@yakobsoulstorm51876 ай бұрын
Yeah. Unlike Dio, who obsessed over pushing the limits of his Stand, Diavolo mostly just uses it as a concealed carry weapon; something he can use to get rid of people who'd threaten his anonymity. I came into an argument on Reddit where I was confused about the Polnareff fighting Diavolo on the cliff scene which got downvoted to hell just for asking how it made sense (since redditors cant handle critiques to the shows they like) and I concluded that that scene was an error on the animation team's side, where they animated it as if it was The World. The ending of this video PERFECTLY summarizes part of why discussing king crimson is so frustrating, we have a pretty reasonable guess, as a reader, why the events go a particular way, but from a watsonian perspective, i.e. from within the story, you've got to jump through some HOOPS to make the choices make sense with the rules given, and the hoops being so complex, people are liable to get frustrated and go "well it goes that way because Araki wrote it that way, you're thinking too hard!" easily as a way to bail, especially when it gets really nitpicky and hard to track. Heck, myself included, there were points where I was thinking "well there's no way Araki intended it to have gone that way, it just made for a cool beat! glad there could be a way to make it work, though!"
