England have one of the strongest squads available, yet Southgate has to rely on last minute goals to save him. I’m a yank but I have mates in please don’t laugh Scunthorpe!! Met them summer of 1985 in my hometown San Diego coming out of an infamous strip club. Anyhow I’ve been following England since the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. I had to laugh when Gareth mentioned Graham Taylor one more reason for people to hate Scunthorpe. Southgate went for it today! Foden played better, Mainoo brilliant, Rice good, Kane off earlier, Watkins on - this is what we wanted to see! It's paid off! The confidence of the team grew since Bellingham's overhead. Then Kane's goal, set up by Palmer, Eze and Toney. Then Saka's goal. Then the penalties - all gave the team belief to go far. What a celebration from Watkins aswell, Tardelli vibes there!

Whatever they did today, should stick to it vs Spain. Not overly exposed, but attacked in group at the same time. That really put the Dutch into annoyance and lose their heads. They came expecting an attacking game, worked with the first goal then quickly over. Koeman got them to park the bus in the second half right up 75th minute or so before they came out playing. Maybe Southgate saw that and brought on watkins, palmer and took the gamble since england were compact the whole game. Notice after watkins goal, they were very disciplined in midfield which something I never saw in them.

@@cho317 I'm only talking about one aspect of southgate's thinking, you only have too focus on kane's play to see hes not offering us anything other than penalties, if we get one. He couldn't play the last 2 games for Munich, the Holland team have no decent attacking threat, if you compare his setting up to a premier league team , southgate acts as if hes Fulham, when he has the players to set up on the front foot . Only spain are a genuine threat, but adding Watkins even if you're defensive, it would then be counter attacking. Kane doesn't do that. Remember sterling was the guy who supported kane , just as song at Tottenham, now sane and konan at Munich. But as people have said it's better to be s lucky manager than a good one. Fair play to the guy . Would you expect man city to set up defensive, arsenal, even villa play countering . I'm being long winded but we have the players to go for games

some of the performances have been poor, some of the tactical decisions have been poor, but somehow Southgate and his squad delivers. a semi final of a world cup followed by a final of euros follwed by a qfinal of world cup followed by another final of euro cements him as statistically the most succsessful england manager in history. we have haters say that any decent manager would of won something with these players but i disagree we paid mega money for so called world class foreign coaches with imo a better generation of players but we failed time and time again ultimately on shootouts. This time we can actually take penaltys.... were on the final having played no where near our best. all it take is one of the special talents we have to produce a bit of magic and were champions. I think you have to admit we have rode our luck but maybe the stars are written. its coming home?
