Angelina Jordan is a young singer who has captivated audiences with her soulful voice and unique phrasing. She often bends and stretches the words in a way that expresses her emotions and feelings. Some people say she needs to pronounce the words more clearly, but I say it is her style to emote. She is not trying to be perfect, but authentic. She is not afraid to experiment and explore different ways of singing. She is an artist who has her own vision and voice.

The cutting of the words is a common technique in the jazz world allowing the singer to play with the vowels. I understand that you prefer full enunciation. She started out learning by listening to the jazz greats. I’m so glad she is self taught. It would have been a shame to have lost this amazing artist because voice teachers taught her uniqueness out of her. Please understand that if your are going to continue your journey into Angelina’s world of music, you will encounter this often 😊

Thanks for your reaction! She is only 17 years old today and from Norway. She signed with the label Republic Records just 14 years old, I think we can safely leave the promotion to Republic Record. Marketing will start when her full album is released later this year. There's only one EP with 6 songs she's released from RR now, and they haven't started marketing until the full album is released!. Republic Records know 100% what they are doing? I think a lot of people don't realize how much Angelina has done in her short life (17). She performed FIFA AWARD song, and performed in front of 40 000 people only 11 years old invited by Norah Jones. She was also specially invited by Quincy Jones to perform on his 85th birthday in the O2 arena / London. And so on goes the list... She has over 250 songs on KZbin with cover songs and many originals. Angelina also plays piano and guitar. The truth is that within a year or two she will be the artist for the big occasions. and not a "bare belly plastic artist" who tops a list for a week and is forgotten just as quickly. She already eats most female vocalists for breakfast, and the label Republic Records and the rest of the music industry know that too! Angelina Jordan has nothing to prove. When she sometimes belts is it because the fits in the performances. She sings to us only she can do!

Angelina 's sound is not that of a pop or classically trained vocalist . She mostly is a Jazz vocalist and in jazz you don't always finish off words with perfect enunciation . That is the style that A. J. is famous for . Some of her greatest influences were Jazz and Blues singers like Billie Holiday , Etta James , Ella Fitzgerald , Nina Simone , Amy Winehouse etc. So it is a stylistic choice , just not what you are used to.

Yeap agree with you on that. I was gonna say same thing and I saw your comment. In Jazz you play with words and enunciation much more than other genres of music and Angelina has Jazz in her blood. And to add to that Jazz is for the real music listeners, what I mean about that is, everyone listens to pop music and can understand all the words being clearly enunciated. With Jazz you have to be a good music listener that you understand lyrics when they are not completely enunciated. Jazz for the everyday listener is gonna say that.... what she just said that I cannot understand her words completely. In other words, Jazz is much more appreciated by musicians than the everyday listener, but still there are everyday listeners that have a good ear for music and understands Jazz. It's a stylistic choice in the lyrics and why Angelina's cover here is more emotional, that's what changing the enunciation does to a song you can make it more emotional with how you sing the lyrics and how you end every word. Hope this helps Ladies 🤗

You not only play with words in jazz but play behind and in front of the beat. That is why people will often like a cover Angelina does better but cannot explain why. That is because a great jazz singers phrasing can add emotional impact that a 'clean' faithful cover does not. An example of this is 15 year old Angelinas cover of Adeles ALL I ASK. ...Adele sings What if I Never love....... again. Angelina phrases that What if I Never......love again. Listen and hear how that one little change makes that emotion hold all the vulnerability and fragility that the Adele version lacks.

Her annunciation is a stylistic choice. She fully annunciates on many songs, and others by choice she doesn't. Fully annunciating, definitely means there is a whole "area of things" you can no longer do. Sometimes she sings certain words with a particular vowel placement or a different vowel all together for sonic effect, and how it blends into the next section. It's all about choices and conveying emotion, and they are intentional. I would say some of her songs, like he Incredible rendition of Yellow Brick Road simply wouldn't be half as good if she didn't take certain liberties.

Angelina was the greatest child singer in my lifetime from age 7-9. By age 10, most fans believe she had a fully "adult" voice that just continues to get better every year. If you listen to knowledgeable vocal coaches, they will explain what she is doing with her enunciation that are genius musical choices to make the music flow naturally. It's way above my pay grade to fully explain it, but suffice to say she is doing it on purpose, not because she can't pronounce the words. According to Angelina, her #1 musical influence is Billie Holiday, but Amy Winehouse, Adele, Elvis & about 20-30 other legendary vocalists from the past are her musical influences. Btw, her thumbnail description has her 1st name wrong, It's Angelina, not Angelia.

Don't forget, English is AJ's third language, according to her official website, she can speak four languages: Norwegian, English, Urdu and Persian. She learned Urdu and Persian from her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani who is a genius and world-famous painter and poet. Mery Zamani is also a talented songwriter. She has written over 100 songs in different languages, including Persian, English, Norwegian, Japanese and Spanish. She has also published several books of poetry and memoirs. Mery's Album "Mery Zamani Miracle Genius" is available in English, Norwegian, Japanese. Mery Zamani was born in Iran and is a source of inspiration and support for her granddaughter, who shares her passion for music and art. is it any wonder where Angelina gets her talent, it is past down from her grandmother.

This moving performance was the final song of Angelina's 2021 online Christmas concert, so she was a few weeks shy of her 16th birthday, on January 10. Roy Henriksen, recently posted the following in a Angelina fan club on Facebook. I have 30 years of experience in marketing, and I can tell you that everything done around her by her team and record company is an example to follow. You forget that she is only 17 years old, and that with her first releases, which are currently 6 songs from an EP. Many people know who Norah Jones is. She is a legend in her field. Did you know that Angelina already has more subscriptions on KZbin than her. And Angelina is currently only marketed by fans and social media. When it comes to radio play and chart toppers, it must be done strategically and at the right time. This is controlled via market forces that most people do not have the concepts to express themselves about. We can also mention all the plastic on-hitters made by artists who are forgotten the following week. They will never be invited to sing at big events, such as Adelle, AW, 007 song, and so on. The ignorance of many people is enormous when it comes to strategic marketing. We can also mention that Taylor Swift is on tour and is under the same label. Maybe this megastar will finish first, and maybe it's a good idea to wait until Angelina's full album is out. It is easy to sit and lay out Angelina's strategy from the sofa. Finally, I would like to mention that there is a reason why Republic Records has such great artists, and has a good reputation among artists and in the music industry. Finally, I would like to mention that they have made a separate studio for Angelina so that she can make her music in peace. Perhaps a little patience among us fans is in order. Angelina will never be ignored by the industry. She is too talented, and has an incredible X factor and versatility that many would dream of!

Believe me, when she wants to be crisp and enunciate very clearly, she does. I wouldn't worry too much about her and what the music industry will do to her. She is very passionate, humble, caring, etc and has a wonderful family and team that take care of her;) She could have been pushed many directions by now with that talent she has displayed for 10 years, but her family wanted her to have a somewhat normal life. I think republic records knows and agree with this also. She signed with them at 14 and they built her own studio, yet they haven't pushed her. They know what they have and who she is as a person. I wouldn't expect see a bunch of tattoos, drunken nights, and selfish behavior in her future! lol More likely spreading love and doing charities;) Here is a nice little quote from her (as a 17 yr old) about a song from her new EP, Fire And Rain..."It's basically about how much you guys inspire me, 'cause I say: “If I go far from home I still know I'm not alone, 'cause you will be wherever [I am]. And I'll carry you with me wherever I go.” And that is a love you guys give me every single day. Imagine getting so much love from all these beautiful people. The unconditional love that I have for you guys is so endless. I couldn't do this without you guys. One thing that I really want you guys to know is that my mission for you and everyone listening is that I want to spread all my love to you. And tell you that you're not alone, you're so loved no matter where you are, where you come from, it does not matter. You're accepted like who you are. You're strong and I want to tell you guys that through my music"

Why sing it if you're going to sing it like Lauren. Angelina, from the age of six, sang iconic songs by iconic singers and did every single one her way and many times did them better than the original. Angelina influences are the great jazz, soul and blues singers of the past and they're smiling down on her. I as well had a choir director who hammered home the idea of enunciation. The reason for that was when you have many voices every voice ends at the same time making a clean sound. Personally, I've never heard an artist over my seventy years that I understand the lyrics better than Angelina Jordan. She is a brilliant story teller.

Interesting discussion.. I love Angelina's singing but you are quite right that she drops the ends of words where they would be hard consonants... she nearly always does this and I am pretty sure it is a stylistic choice (important to remember she started with jazz... and is a great jazz singer ), which is absolutely fine by me, but your point is certainly correct. It is worth mentioning however - I see some other comments allude to this - that listening to Angelina has for the first time in my 65 years "made" may pay attention to lyrics... Her ability to convey the "message" of a song, and particularly the emotion, is extraordinary... Her character is also extraordinary as you can see from this early interview, when she was 9 I think - reading from the diary she wrote at 6 (and published as a book ) about the encounter that led to her pledge to sing barefoot: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5SmfXePZaiGkJo

Her "throwing it away" is kind of her style. It allows her to drag out words, sustain notes longer, give a different feel, etc. Maybe that's why you always feel the emotion when she sings. Who knows! I'm not a singer. lol It's done intentionally. Of course there are also songs when her words are quite clear. I also think with this song it's pretty clear what the words are. I had never heard this before hearing from Angelina and I knew what she was saying. They are close enough to the whole word that you can predict what they are. Lord knows people get some of the lyrics wrong for nearly every artist.

Yeah I think it adds to the vocal storytelling, but also for sure, that only works if you know the words one would think. Which explains why I always love her performances more when she takes those liberties, as long as I know the words. To me, she is the best vocal storyteller I know. Who knows though, her little Spanish singing on Insta was so beautiful and when I looked up the words they weren't a surprise at all. Her EP is so full of vocal storytelling it's crazy. Even the tracks have some music storytelling matching the lyrics as well. But we see on the EP she does know annunciation is important to many. I bet she could get away with just putting animated lyrics in all her videos. But they are radio ready for people new to the songs.

Angelina's style of enunciation is a CHOSEN stylistic technique which has become one of her signature (and beautiful!) sounds. I've been following and studying her personal, family, & professional life for 4 years since 2019. I would implore you to study her too, because in my opinion, for you all to implicate that she is "lazy" in her approach to singing is to almost literally slap her in the face! If there is ANYTHING about Angelina Jordan Astar, it has ALWAYS BEEN HER EXTRAORDINARY WORK ETHIC AND ATTENTION TO DETAILS! Also, I get so weary with the numerous people who have compared her to "Whine"house. Yes, Angelina has some similarities of jazzy vocal fry like Amy, but I hope and pray to God that she NEVER looks like her (a tatooed, body-pierced circus freak) or chooses the same self-destructive path Amy sadly chose. Lastly, to even speak this young lady's name in the same breath with the names of Spears, Cyrus, and Bieber is abolutely revolting. I try my best to not typically do a soapbox rant like this, but this time I felt it must be. I'm very glad you like Angelina's overall talent and had a generally good reaction to this performance (which at age 15 is better than Daigle's, IMO). For that reason, I clicked the like button. But I cannot subscribe for the aforementioned reasons, at least at this time. Perhaps after you educate yourself more about her and understand WHY she does WHAT she does. Please do not let my comments discourage you from reacting more to Angelina. I'm just a 68-year old nobody throwing in my two-cents. Have a nice day!

If you feel her voice doesn't match her age, you're 100% correct, and that has been the case since she started singing at 5.... check out her cover of Born to Die if you like Lana del Rey.

Some people don't have jazz ears, that's OK. Angelina often plays with PHRASING differently in every piece she does. Her strongest influence was Billie Holiday, who also played with words. Even Amy Winehouse played with various pronunciation. See Amy and Tony Bennett's duet as an example. So realize Angelina does nothing without purpose. So this is a matter of taste, but actually correcting her is ill informed. Have a great day Ladies.

lol playing with words is far different from mispronouncing them. If you mispronounce a word it becomes a different word entirely. Maybe she doesn't get that because she's not a natural English speaker but there isn't a single singer, jazz singer or otherwise that simply doesn't pronounce a word fully so you're completely wrong.

Hi Girls. Thanks for reacting to my recomendation of you say. I loved the reaction. I like that she left the last letter of the words off. I think it sounds better that way. My next recomendation is angelinas cover of a japanese song ( Like a river flow) And yes angelina sings in japanese .She speaks like five different languages. Her grand father was japanese. She sang it in japan. the japanese lady that wrote the song and sang it died a couple years after. They have museums all over japan in her honor.she was the japanese Adle. So Japan doesnt let just anybody come there and sing such an Iconic song unless they know they are worthy. Angelina was 10 YO. Its the most beautiful song you will ever hear and not understand one word of it. The japanese audience was asked after how was angelinas japanese. They all said very good. Banzi ! Godzilla !! Thanks Girls !

‘I am prepared……’. Lies! :-D Angelina almost always manages to leave you gobsmacked and reach you touch your soul. The enunciation thing: it is not a requirement to finish words when singing, there is no enunciation police :-) In choirs it is encouraged because it helps synchronizing the singing and keeps it from turning it into one big mash which the audience cannot make head nor tails from. When you sing solo, it is in fact encouraged to make the consonants very soft because it allows you sing long beautiful lines. Each hard sung consonant stops the flow of air and in that way interrupts the musical flow. Angelina chose to do it here on almost every word, but either way it is a very usual way of singing amongst professionals. Try and record you singing and using hard consonants and than do it again with the same consonants in a softer way and finally leaving some consonants out and leaving the ends of words end in vowels. I think you will like the 2nd and 3rd way much better from the sound. But of course you are welcome to your opinions: that’s why this is a reaction channel. Without opinions it would get very boring :-)

Pay to view Christmas concert of 2022, she was 15 at this time. This was the last song of the concert. A true gospel song and she does it so splendidly. She is incomparable. English is her third language of 4. She has been enunciating as a choice to have smooth flow since she started. It is a plus. She is obviously the best female vocalist to ever live. She has covered 200 songs here on KZbin. Each is sensational and becomes her own. When you have listened to many more, you will get the picture of just how important this incomparable young lady is. There has never been another with the combination of talents this gift to us possesses. The need to think of her age is just not important in the scheme of things. She is simply, the best.

I say an Elvis reincarnation! Your 2 songs in about 200 more to go! She 6ft tall, so big voice. And unlike miley and justin, Angelina is music royalty! Nobody in the business wants to harm her in any way. In the video those men (band) she is with have a total of 17 grammies combined. Republic Records just finished Angelina own private studio. Angelina is on a whole other level.

You should hear her 8.5 year old version of "What a Difference a Day Makes" (perfect enunciation, btw, and short). Then "I'd Rather go Blind" at 13. I'm a stickler for diction, too, but make allowances for her process of developing her own distinctive style.

Okay ladies, I'm sure I'm not the only one who is, or will speak on this particular issue. When I was in college choir they told us that you must never sing with vibrato so that you mixed better as a choir. When I was in gospel choir in church as a child everyone sang with vibrato including the choir director when she was singing. Just because they tell you in choir that you have to enunciate every word perfectly clear doesn't make it apply to every genre of music. Angelina, first and foremost, is a stylist and a vocal virtuoso. She has been that way since she was very young which has helped her develop her style to what it is today. Mind you, she is only 10 years into her career since 7 years of age, and she has developed more rapidly than I, in my 72 years of life, has ever seen anyone developed. The way she pronounces her words in any particular song is her vocal choice and stylistic expression. I personally had never really heard this song until I heard Angelina sing it, and I have understood every word along the way. So she's not doing anything wrong, she's doing what Angelina does, and that is she has stylized this song for the consumption of we who listen and feel every word. Whether enunciated clearly, or not. Thank you ladies for a beautiful reaction, I enjoyed it very much bless you all.

Nice reaction! In regards to enunciation, she is doing it because it's a stylistic choice because she was raised on jazz, blues, and soul and not choir. She is well known in doing this. Looked like you ladies were surprised at the end of the video where you saw Angelina with Diane Warren I assume? Yes, that is THE Diane Warren, and a future collaboration is in the works. While working on her new EP called Old Enough (which is out now), Republic Records gave her access to work with some of the best songwriters in the industry., such as Fallon King, Rachel Platten, and Taura Stinson, who introduced Warren to Angelina. As for what to watch next from her, you can go back in time and watch her when she was 9 years old and performed I Put A Spell On You(black and white video) kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKipnaJ5hb2tedU Or you can see her at 13 years old on America's Got Talent The Champions 2020, and see her surprising performance of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. Part 1: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXnKfIptqNCIpZY Part 2: kzbin.info/www/bejne/emi2dmmZZq2nmtU This is her complete video segment that aired on tv. This performance went viral and Queen was so impressed, they tweeted, "Wow, what a rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody!" They later gave her the copyrights to her rendition of the song...

Choral song has to match with others to avoid sounding like mush. AJ is using jazz technique on this song which allows the sound to carry. Try it without that yourself and actually what she is doing with embouchure is a difficult technique. Listen to opera singing. It is a different style but same technique. The main thing to avoid clipping the sound too soon is to begin with strong attack and let the end consonants go. I understood every word and I wear a streaming hearing aid. Maybe wear headphones if you can.

I think that "throwing away" as you call it is part of her style, and I for one love it. It has a charm to it I really like. I dont think it is lazy. If she enunciated the words like you say, it would be more cold. I like the spin she puts on it. I wouldn't change a thing.

Angelina is Norwegian so her accent may play a part in her enunciation of words and she may only be 17, but considering that she won Norway's Got Talent at 8, she is a seasoned vet. I became a fan when I saw the video of her singing I Put A Spell On You when she was only 10 years old. She's an incredible talent. Puff puff pass. 🙌✌️

I have experienced the original version by Lauren many times, but her version never invokes the emotion in me that Angelina Jordan does with each and every performance. Her phrasing is unique to say the least so throw out all the misconception that you were taught by your choir teacher. Think of it this way; James Bond, 007, had a license to kill, and AJ has a license to emote like no one else on earth can do.

There was another singer in the 1950-60's who did the same thing with his enunciation on many of his songs. He never really made it very big in the entertainment business. He's a virtual no-name nobody. You ladies have probably never heard of him. His name? I think it was something like ........ ELVIS PRESLEY!!!!!

I hear ya about the enunciation. I think it's a stylistic choice for Angelina. I myself am less interested in the meaning of the lyrics than in the sound, so I relate to her approach. I also know she can enunciate when she wants to. Here's an interview with Anne Lindmo on Norwegian TV when Angelina was age 9, about why she doesn't wear shoes. It's very moving: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5SmfXePZaiGkJo
